"I last stayed at University House on the grounds of the Australian National University (ANU) in 1976 as a Visiting Fellow. The ambience and the tranquility of University House has not changed much in all those years. There is an attempt to allow residents (guests) to have the space and the amenities of former years. Forty years on it is as if time has stood still. Although the furniture, carpets, bathroom have been remodelled and renewed in between time it is in keeping with the original designs for University House. On this occasion we were attending an Opera Gala at Llewellyn Hall which is also located on the grounds of ANU and our choice of accomodation was driven by the nearness of the venues. We stayed in a Superior Queen room. The suite comprises 3 rooms - a lounge/study area with a large desk for writing and working, comfortable seating and the necessities of a fridge and storage area, tv and so on. It was winter (and chilly) but the aircon did a good job of keeping us warm. Running off this room was a large verandah/patio that, even in winter was sun drenched. The bedroom consisted of a good Queen bed, with robes, side tables and electric blankets to ensure a good sleep. The sleeping area faced the inner courtyard and was very quiet. The bathroom was also well appointed with a heated floor. Each room had light and windows that could be opened to regulate air flow and ventilation. The entire complex was neat as a pin and clean. We had no issues with our stay and the price was excellent for what was provided. It was like stepping back in time to when a guest was respected and cared for, so different to many of the impersonal accommodation choices today. It is worth noting that our suite was on the third floor and there are no lifts in the complex - you should ask for a lower room if you have mobility difficulties. Breakfast is available at the Fellows Cafe and the full breakfast was very satisfying at a reasonable price (a discount is provide"
