New boat with very friendly staff”
We took the three day + two night cruise and quite enjoyed it. The food was very well prepared and we also loved the cooking classes. While the boat is less than a year old, there are still some minor problems like the bathroom door wouldn't close as it was warped and need the attention of a carpenter. The staff members were very friendly and always keen to help out with any concerns or questions that we had. This is one of the budget cruises and we have also been on one to Halong Bay that was double the price. While the other boat was more luxurious and we had a bigger room, if you want to save your dollars for other adventures, then I highly recommend the Alova Gold cruise on Halong Bay. If your itinerary allows it, stay two nights instead of one night. If you only do the one night trip, you have very little time to see Halong Bay. You only arrive around 1.30 pm in the afternoon and then by 9.30 am the following morning, you are already motoring back to the Port.

Grat service”
We did a 2days 1night tour with Alova Gold Cruises in Halong. Our pic up and drop of at hotel in Hanoi was in time. In small bus for 12 people, there where not so much space for legs. Driver was ok. Our giude Sunny was friendly. He spoke good English. Boat is nice, cabines are clean and spacious enough, there is a small bathroom with toilet, shower and basin, in the cabine. We had a time to try cayaking, and made a short trip to Ti Top Island first day. Second day we visited Cave. The food was very tasty - lots of variety. Boat does not venture very far into Ha Long Bay. We we told, that we could see the rock from. But when we asked, when where is it, we were told, that we already passed it, when we had a lunch. I will prefer to see it.

Nice cruise with good service”
we did a 2d 1n tour of halong bay with alova gold cruises and were satisfied with their service. hotel pickup and drop off are included in their tour and meals are all provided. standard of the food and selection was good. our tour guide victor was also very friendly and helpful. he also spoke very good english and chinese (mandarin) as well and we had a great time chatting with him throughout the tour as he was very friendly and approachable. the only issue i had with the tour was that the music at the bar was turned on at full blast and it disrupted my sleep as i wanted an early night due to a tiring few days in hanoi. the music was only turned down about 11pm and i felt that it could be turned off earlier or at least turned down to a much lower volume. but overall, i would strongly recommend this cruise.

The best cruise”
there are so many cruises in halong bay. but i am sure that i stayed in the best one. it was absolutely right choice !! food was better than any fancy restaurants in hanoi, and all crews are very kind and devoted to the guest. i will definitely choose alova gold again if i go to halong bay again. really appreciate enthusiastic service of mr. man.

Great Cruise”
We did a one night cruise with Alova Gold and thouroughly enjoyed it. Long 3.5hr trip from Hanoi but well worth the drive. Our guide Tom was very informative and even sang to us which was lovely. The rooms on boat are small but adequate with toilet and shower. Air conditioning does not come on til 5pm but that didn't really bother us as we were up on deck taking in this magnificent place. We Kayaked through the bay, walked up a hill to see a spectacular view, swam and saw limestone caves. Food was wonderful and plenty of it. Highly recommend this trip.

Great cruise on Halong Bay...”
Great cruise on Halong Bay. We weren't sure which junk to choose being so many. We made the correct choice based on the many reviews. The tour operators were great. Our guide, Mike, was excellent. He made the trip that much better. It was a newer, clean boat. Very comfortable and they made us great food each day. The shuttle was great, altho late, and they were very organized and informative! The tours we went on were very nice. We highly recommend to people to only do the 2 day 1 night cruise. More than that is not necessary and is a bit redundant. Overall... highly recommend The Alova Gold Cruise to see Halong Bay and its many attractions.

Fantastic cruise with delicious food”
i really enjoyed my cruise with alova gold. the boat was newer and not too big which allowed us to get to know the other travelers on the cruise. the itinerary was fun and we didn't get bored. a van picked us up from and dropped us off at the hotel in hanoi and was included in the price. couldn't be much happier with the cruise and staff performance. also, the meals were delicious!

Good value, especially with good weather”
The stay with Alova Gold was really pleasant. It's not anything flashy, but the tour is a good value for the price paid. The best aspects included very friendly, professional, and trustworthy staff, including one of the guides named Hieu. The captain of the boat is also a well-dressed gentleman, somewhat unexpected. The food is really delicious, and if the weather weren't so cloudy/rainy (late December), then the kayaking and outdoor activities would have been much better. The tour does include pickup at your hotel in Hanoi (recommended), and the trip to Halong includes a couple of requisite stops at a souvenir tourist trap, but this seems to be standard with all operators, and there is no pressure to buy anything. It's best as a coffee/WC break. The three-day two-night excursion is worthwhile only if the weather is good; otherwise there is a lot of leisure time. Our tour included a hike up to Titop island (excellent 360-degree panoramas), a descent into an impressive but crowded cave ("Amazing Cave"), kayaking twice around some superb lagoons, and a stop at a pearl "museum" (again, a place to spend money if you wish, but there was no pressure to purchase). Again, this is a great, balanced trip if the weather is decent.

Great Personalize service. Thumbs up!”
We did the 2D1N junk cruise with Aloca Gold from 11th to 12th April 2012 recently. Overall, we were rather satisfied with the cruise, guide, meals, activities... The minibus transfer from hanoi (and bk) was included free (which is nice)... no problem with the bus at all... Our guide, Nghe (aka Peter) followed us right from hotel picked up, ship boarding and during the cruise. So overall, they provided us wth great personalize service. He even remembered that we requested a quiet room and arranged it for us a room away from ship motor room. Food-wise, not bad at all, all have more than enough to go around... (but some of the caucasion tour-mates should hv requested western meals as they seems didnt like the vietnamese crusine so much)... However, only tea/coffee at breakfast meal is free... the cruise charges almost US$2 for a hot vietnamese green-tea (from tea bag) during lunch/dinner (which is very steep)... It would be really nice if they could provide us plain water during meal... which they didn't... only a small bottle (really small) bottle was provided in the room... Day one - TiTop Island/ Kayaking Day two - Surprise cave Both days activities was nice... Some of the people whom we met on the cruise were doing 3D2N (their 3rd is our 2rd)... on our second day, thet basically stay on the ship doing nothing (Free and easy)...

Unbelievable natural wonder of the world.”
We chose one of the smaller boats with only 9 cabins which gave us a small group of people to travel and socialise with. Our guide from Alova Cruises was fantastic (Sunny) who spoke very good english and provided a lot of information about Halong Bay and the Vietnamese culture. Cabins all had their own ensuite and considered a generous size given previous experience on other boats back in Australia. The food was brilliant and so were the free cooking class and food preparation demonstrations given by the boat's chef. We were glad we chose the overnight stay as opposed to the day trip as we saw a lot more and got to know our fellow travellers very well around the bar that night which started with happy hour and then continued on well into the night.

Wonderful cruise with excellent staff”
We really enjoyed the alova gold cruise, the staff were excellent and managed to sort us out when we had a slight disaster with the pick up (not their fault). All the activities are great and the food good. The drinks are a little pricey but appreciated their cocktail happy hour. Great rooms on the boat as well, would definitely recommend.

Amazing trip to Halong Bay!”
We had the most wonderful time on this cruise. From start to finish, our guide Trung was friendly and helpful. The van picked us up on time and was a comfortable ride down to Halong City. Once we arrived, everything was very efficient to get us checked in while others were waiting for a long time to board their cruises. The trip to Ti Top island was a huge highlight as the views from the top are breathtaking. We enjoyed the kayaking, swimming, squid fishing, and the cave adventure. The meals were superb and the staff was fantastic. I cannot recommend this cruise enough!

Well organised and Lovely cruise”
I chose this cruise due to their customer service, unlike other Halong Junk boats crusies they responded to my queries within reasonable time. I was very impressed with the organisation. Everything seemed to run on time. Nghe ( Peter) our tour guide was very fiendly and all the staff on board were extremely friendly, willing to help every step. The food served on the boat was fantastic, better than i had expected. The second day however the trip ended at 11am and we had our lunch at Ha long city which was a disapointment, as the food served at the restuarant was very average. Overall, we enjoyed our cruise, and i highly recommend this to anyone, Halong Bay is beautiful, its a must do!!

Fantastic service food and stay”
Staff is friendly, including the pre-trip arrangement for the pick up service we need to make ourselves after booking the stay with Agoda. Note that the transportation price is already included inside the price stated on Agoda, vs some of the other junk cruises. Our tour guide was Man, very warm, humorous, and can sing really well. He even arranged a surprise cake and wine to celebrate our honeymoon. This is a moderate size boat with only 9 cabins max, so its really cosy. All the guests sang songs and it was very heartwarming to have such memorable time together with friends from all over the world. Food was fabulous, served piping hot! The kayaking and cave trip were great too. So glad i made the choice to stay with Alova!

Great cruise if you are looking for a get away”
Comfortable cruise on Alova Gold. Did the 3 days 2 nights tour. Our second day was amazing as we were taken off the larger boat on a much smaller boat for the majority of the day. Great value for money.

Good mid range cruise option to see Halong Bay”
Well organised from the hotel pickup through to baording the boat, the staff were friendly, the food on board was fine and more than you could eat, the rooms are not very big but it is not a place where you will spnd much time in the room and the activities were fun but expect to be one of many tourists in the area. Overall I would recomend Alova Gold.

Amazing location - Worth the long drive!”
Halong Bay is one of the 'must see' locations in the world. Amazing collection of islands scattered through the bay - rock and jungle covered. The weather was very hot and humid (as expected) and there was a lot of haze during the day (easing in the evening) which limited long range visibility. Lots of other boats on the bay. A long drive from Hanoi - about 3.5 hours each way (with a refreshment and shopping stop half way). But interesting rice fields and small towns along the route. The boat crew were freindly, helpful and very service oriented. The boat itself was comfortable and nicely decorated. Bedrooms were compact, but with own ensuite. (Some minor plumbing leaks in the bathroom.) Food on the boat was very good. All up it was good value for money. Not the cheapest overnight tour, but a long way from the most expensive! Met people from all over the world - Nth & Sth America, UK and Europe (two couples on honeymoon) Our teenage son was the only young person in the group, but he mixes well with adults and coped fine. Definitely recommend this trip.

Sunny (Our Guide) Made It All Good”
Alova Gold Cruises is very good because of the following reasons: (1) The ship is just the right size with only 9 rooms, this meant that we had the chance to meet all the guests and mingle. (2) The food serve were the usual Vietnamese Cuisine and tasty. (3) The views of the bay together with the caves and places we visited during kayaking were magnificent.

Glad we chose this cruise”
We really enjoyed our 2 nights on Alova Gold. The online images of all the boats on Halong Bay are a bit misleading, but when we saw some of the other boats we were considering we were very happy with our choice. Whilst not grand and luxurious our rooms were very confortable, and the boat was pretty well maintained. The staff on board were multi-skilled, and friendly. The food was quite a surprise, there was a reasonable choice at each meal, and whilst simple, it was good quality and tasty. Overal it was an enjoyable experience.

Fantastic service, a pleasure to be there”
It was my first time on any kind of cruise, and it was pretty amazing. The service was wonderful, the other travellers were similiar (westerners). It seems that this travel company go the extra mile when it comes to service and the details in the food. They let you know all the history of halong bay, and all the travel tips you need to know to get around as well. The time on the transfer is made entertaining and useful by the travel guide. For the price and all the included activities i think its an unbelievable bargain.
