Great, value for money hotel! ”
Great, value for money hotel! The cheapest one you can get in Bandar Seri Begawan. We booked a Standard room with no tv but got upgraded to a standard room with TV. We originally intended to stay for one night but because we enjoyed the sights and sounds of Brunei, we booked another night. Owner is very helpful and friendly, we didn't have any Brunei dollars on our first day but he was kind enough to exchange our Ringgit to Dollars. He also gave us a free ride to the bus station on our last day(on our way to Kota Kinabalu)as he was going to bring his son to school. They have a very nice pantry / kitchen wherein you can get free oatmeal, cornflakes, bread, coffee....I enjoyed this very much! Especially the oatmeal. I highly recommend this hotel to everybody. You will truly have a memorable stay in Brunei when you stay in Apek Utama Hotel. Will definitely stay here again when I visit Brunei again!

Great price for Brunei but the hotel should be updated”
Accommodation in Brunei is very expensive so finding this hotel was great. It is located 2km from the centre of Bandar Seri Begawan. There is a 1$ local bus (no. 39) that until 6pm stops just in front of Apek Utama. You can even walk. It is some 20min easy walk to the centre. Room was big but it looked much nicer on the photos. The photos were done long time ago. This hotel shows its age all over it, from common areas to the rooms. Painting pealing from the wall, worn sofas, old noisy air condition units, water heater in the bathroom not working etc. It should definitely be updated. Free wifi is advertised but most of the time it wasn't working. You connect but it is so slow that you can't download even a single email. Ok to stay if you are on a tight budget.

our experience was great”
Getting there from the airport wasn't difficult as the taxi driver knew where the hotel was. We stayed here for two nights and I'm glad we stayed here among all the hotels in Brunei. We booked our stay late already but they were still able to receive our booking. The wifi's fast and the hotel owner makes you feel comfortable and at home. You can use the hotel's kitchen if you wanna make your own breakfast. What I like most of the hotel is that the surrounding's really quiet. It makes you feel relaxed and you will be able to sleep at night comfortably. Going to the downtown area isn't also a problem as there are water taxis that you can ride near the hotel. Just go towards the direction of the sea and you will find your way to the water taxi stops. It only cost 1 BRUNEI DOLLAR for a water taxi/boat ride for each. This is a must try experience. It was also so kind of the hotel owner and his wife to give us a ride to the downtown area after we checked out. They also introduced to us the famous Roti Kuning Kawin of Chop Jing Chew bakery/restaurant. It was the best tasting bun I've ever tasted in my whole life. seriously. The hotel owner was indeed so friendly and helpful and we managed to make the most of our stay in Brunei with his tips and advices. All in all, our experience in Brunei was great and staying at Apek Utama made if even better. Cheers!

Loved this Place! Relaxing ”
I loved my stay at Apek Utama -- it was relaxing and charming. The rooms are excellent and large for the price. The family who runs it is lovely & they also own a good local restaurant across the street. There's another restaurant on the waterfront that's quite good, and a grocery store that's open until 10 pm. The wifi is good & they have a 24 hour kitchen stocked with bread and cereal. The only potential downside is the location: it's about 2 km from BSR. Fortunately, there's a water taxi across the street & you can walk if necessary. Overall, my stay was super relaxing and I had a great time. My favorite part was their tiny kittens that lived in the garage-- so cute and happy!

Good enoug”
I was staying at Apek Utama Hotel for one night only. The morning I left, I asked the owner of the hotel to help me call a taxi. He asked his friend to drive me to the bus terminal and took me 5 BND for really short distance. Moreoever, the hotel is located quite far from center. Except for those things, it was quite good, the hotel.

refurbished building”
from the exterior it looks new but some parts of the interiors are refurbished. Value for money for Brunei prices. the room is big and the pantry is quite well stocked.20-30 mins. walking from the waterfront since there is practically no public transport in Brunei. this hotel is a self service hotel as the reception desk is usually empty but everything is conveniently placed even maps and bus schedules so no need really to ask.

Apek Utama Review :)”
Apek Utama is a good hotel and it's funny that you won't seen any staff unless you check in,or someone checks in. You can just go in and out to the hotel,no one cares, haha. I think becausw it's Brunei that is why establishments are very confident with their security. Of course cctv's are installed. It's a great budget hotel, nice rooms with bathrooms. Bed is comfortable. Aircondition works just fine, they also have a ceiling fan incase you don't want aircon. Also they have a kitchen, you can go down there anytime and heat your food in the microwave, boil water ,wash dishes, and refridgerate you food. And it's alse near a dock that you can wait for a jetty :) very cool transportation. In summary, Apek Utama Hotel is just great for travelers going to Brunei .

Amazing, owner v. helpful, comfy bed affordable”
Brilliant. Little far from town, but the hotel and owner made up for it. The room was pretty basic in western eyes but it had a massive comfy bed, a TV, closests, locked drawers, a fan and a wet room bathroom. There wasn't anyone at reception ever. You had to call then, or add them on whatsapp and they drove over which was a little weird, but hey, foreign land foreign culture. Sofian the owner was amazing, he answered all of questions, gave me lifts into town, reviews tips and recommendations, ordered me taxis (and when the taxi didn't come he took me instead for the fee). Strong wifi, hot water, clean room. There was also breakfast available..all day! It is a help yourself service, basically a kitchen with food and you can have cereal or toast of whatever's there, loved it. It's a 20/25 minute walk into town or you can take a water taxi (only when the tide is in) to town for B$1. I would totally recommend staying here!

Cheapest hotel in bandar but far from centre”
I stayed in Apek Utama 1 day only, this was cheapest hotel in Bandar that I found out on Agoda, but its far from centre, u have to take bus, taxi water to centre...and if no bus u have to pay for expensive transportations to centre ( I could not find out the taxi from centre back hotel at 8p.m, the way I got back, the local help me found out the transport service in The Brunei Hotel with 15B$). Its on highway, very dark at night and no eara for walking. The staffs was so friendly but they were not attendent much in lobby, i didnt see them when i need to ask something.

For the price, can't ask for much more”
Very pleased with my stay. The price is rock bottom for this expensive country. While the hotel is about 2km from downtown, it is never a problem to get there by bus, boat or walking. I was very impressed with the staff, they were attentive and polite. Nice supermarket next door makes eating cheap, but not many restaurants in the area. Hot water wasn't working well in the shower in my room, but may have just been my room. I highly recommend this hotel, especially to those on a budget and don't mind spending a few minutes to get downtown.

Great stay”
We stayed here for 4 nights, and I would recommend it. We slept very well here, and weren't disturbed by any noise outside as it's in a pretty sleepy location. This is not a bad thing though, as there is a water taxi to the main city just 5 minutes walk from the hotel, costing 1 Brunei dollar per person per trip. We didn't have any Brunei currency on us when we arrived, so the girl on reception (I really regret not asking her name!) lent us 5 dollars to get a water taxi into town to use an ATM. This girl was so helpful for our entire stay, but the other staff seemed to have limited English, and unfortunately she wasn't there all the time. Free breakfast was toast, and there was no bread left for the last two days of our stay, but we weren't too bothered so didn't ask for more. They have a washing machine for free use, soap included, which really helped us out. There were ants ALL over the kitchen, and a beetle under the bed, but apart from that it was pretty clean. I would stay here again, for sure.

staying at this hotel”
We had a great and memorable stay in brunei made possible by staying at this hotel😘 Location was very accessible in the city center either by bus or water taxi in 5mins ur in the city center. We were able to explore brunei its history, mosques, night market and native food by the paid toured arranged in the hotel with the owner/staff will offer their service at lowest rate. Surely be back and recommend this hotel😘

The best hotel in Brunei you can choose”
The staff is professional, friendly. But you shouldn't stay in Ramadan. You must go to city center by bus because the taxi is very rare and expensive. The staff is very friendly, they take me to the airport when i'm late for the flight. The shared kitchen in hotel is good. You can drink free coffee, tea or eat sandwiches. I think you should stay in this hotel when you come to Brunei. That's a good choice!

Budget hotel in Brunei”
Booked standard with no TV, but upgraded to standard with TV (for free) Kitchen area is great. Also have bread and cereal all the time. Lobby and stair area smelled bad, but room is nice and clean even though it's old. Bed is comfortable and AC + fan worked just fine. From 2 rooms we booked, one of shower not worked at first (But somehow after several try it worked). Hot water available. Surrounding is very quiet. Hotel located 2-3km from city center, so you need to walk to catch water taxi, or bus (but the nearest bus stop we saw is 2km from the hotel). There's a mini market near the hotel if you need snack/etc. We need to catch early flight and the owner was so nice. They drove us to the bus station and told us about Brunei. Very helpful! Overall, if you need cheap accomodation, and don't mind to walk a little, this would be great :)

Brunei is nice ”
Friendly helpful staff and clean room hotel but building old and a but of tropical damp. Good shower and toilet after the Philippines. Neat tidy breakfast room and WiFi good in the communal areas but nut so good in the room as stated on add. You get what you pay for and as a budget hotel it's fine. The water taxi ride to town is a blast. Just 5 minute trip and felt like Dr no from James bond...Just needed a gym tuxedo and a few villains chasing me. These little speedboats should be the drawcard. rfor tourists in Brunei. The most fun transport system in the world I have experienced at 2$ a ride
