Stayed one night - wished I had booked for longer! Bed and pillows were fluffy and comfy, spa was great, breakfast was delicious! Will be back.

On our arrival, the staff were fabulous. Friendly and helpful. Matt was gracious and ever available. Receive a bottle of wine, not just a free glass of orange juice as a welcome drink. Location is great. Close to Bath Spa Station and walking distance to so many of the sites. Love our visit to Bath.

Outstanding staff and customer service. They couldn’t do enough for us. We visited the Thermae Spa, owned by the same group just across the road. The hotel staff were able to get us to the front of the lengthy queue, even walking us over to make sure we were attended to promptly. The hotel spa facilities are smaller but much nicer than the Thermae Spa - if you’re planning a visit I’d use the hotel facilities instead. Wonderful hotel.

Only issue was with cleaning the room. The housekeeping department seemed understaffed. It took them all day to get around to cleaning the room. A phone call to reception finally prodded them (at around 5 PM).

What better place than THE GAINSBOUROUGH to celebrate my wife's 70th Birthday ! From the moment you enter the hotel you are warmly greeted. Restaurant & Spa were a delight. Plenty of advice on hand for touring around Bath. Cocktails - had the perfect expert................ All together everything was just perfect, more than happy to return again !

Great location and spa”

Was a little surprised that you have to pay an extra £70 pp to use the spa pools. On top of that when at the spa some customers clearly were given better service than others. Felt left out when they offered everyone water and a tower but not us. Rooms were very nice and comfy.

From the moment our car approaching the hotel the hotel staff is coming up to gree us, smooth checking in, valet parking, handling our luggages to each room, showing us the hotel facilities, guiding us to each rooms, showing our point of interests and providing guidance with local map. When we use the hotel mineral hot spring bath pool the staff provide us with bathing suite with very reasonable price for one of our family member did not pack his swim pants. There's one staff at the pool to provide guidance and assistance with towels and drinks that make us the most relaxing family bath experience. But the best is yet to come, after we retire to our room, ready to sleep, I suddenly felt ill due to catching cold while walking over cold ocean water at Mt. St. Michael and ate disagreeable food on the road during the day before arriving hotel. I called house keeping service to bring hot water and 2 extra bath towels to my room. Within 3 minutes, one gentleman brought 2 bath towels to my room, after knowing I felt ill, he adjusted the thermo in my room to make sure I'm in comfortable warm temperature after he left then the second gentleman walked in with set of hot water, he poured and set the hot water table near where I seat after he make sure I'm comfortable then left and closed the door behind him. The kind words and gestures of the night house keeping staffs makes me so grateful. After taking medication I brought from home with me and a good night sleep, I was fully recovered in the morning and able to continue our traveling in UK. From the moment we approaching the hotel until the moment we leaving the hotel, the hotel staffs are always there ready to give assistance. It's this kind of human experiences that makes this place the most uniquely outstanding.

Great place to stay”

Had a fantastic couple of nights at the Gainsborough. It is in a great location for central Bath. I would highly recommend going into the spa. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again. My only complaint would be the cost of breakfast at £30 per person. Would have to rest it as one of the nicest hotels we have stayed in.

Top notch hotel”

Very good central location, just a couple of minutes from Avon Street car park (beware, hopeless payment system), warm friendly staff, even warmer spa (brilliant), immaculately clean everywhere, but the dining room decor is not very inviting. Instead for dinner we recommend Sotto Sotton (very good Italian in a cellar) and for lunch, the Pump Room, lovely period setting.

There are four issues that would make the experience better. 1/ Car parking. YTL offer a service for £38 per day. Compared to the long term nearby at £15. This soon becomes a big difference if you stay for more than a couple of days. 2/ Most people are here to celebrate. If you want fizz, there is only Champagne available, starting at £16 a glass. Why not offer Prosecco at a lower price. 3/ The Spa can only be used between 7-9am and 8-10pm free of charge. To use this facility during normal daytime hours you have to arrange treatments and pay EXTRA charges. 4/ An English Breakfast costs £ 30 per person or £35 per person if you want it in your room! A couple of days stay + £ 140!! In my opinion ALL of the above should be included in the room rate.

Christmas me ni break”

From the moment we arrived up until we checked out. All the staff were friendly and very helpful. We were given a map of the City and tips on where to visit and what times to miss the queues etc. Our room was spotless and spacious and the breakfast set us up for the day. Huge breakfast options to cater for even the most discerning guest. We can’t wait to return for a longer visit.

A beautiful historic building with immaculate contemporary interior. The spa facilities are unique and luxurious. The staff are all friendly and helpful. Right in the middle of town. It is expensive but if you are looking for something special you won’t be disappointed.

Fantastic Hotel”

Very central position in Bath. All shops are in walking distance. The staff are exceptional very helpful and kind. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable bed. The under floor heating in the bathroom is much appreciated. The Spa is wonderful.

From the outset the staff were amazing. Welcoming, helpful, brilliant at suggesting restaurants and places to visit. The spa is great and although a whole day is probably great for the time it's part of your complimentary stay fine for the time given. Try the hot chocolate it's delicious. Rooms great, lovely toiletries and fridge items thoughtful. Excellent location . Highly recommend a stay here

The staff are very friendly and helpful without being too over formal like other premium hotels we’ve stayed in. The spa is fantastic, the rooms are lovely and the beds are the most comfortable I’ve ever slept in. The Gainsborough is an amazing place to stay at.

Outstanding”

Our wedding anniversary was made particularly memorable by our stay in this fabulous hotel. The room was luxurious and had many special touches that we really appreciated. The staff were attentive, warm and helpful. The location of the hotel is perfect, right in the beating heart of the city. We traveled their by train and it felt like we stepped off the train and into the hotel. The facilities, especially the spa are amazing. It is the only spa I have been to with complimentary Georgian hot chocolate. You must try this, it is a taste sensation. We ate in the hotel’s restaurant, Dan Moon, and it was a terrific meal. Food theatre of the highest order but in relaxed and welcoming surroundings. You would be mad to eat any where else in Bath. All in all a very special place that we will be certain to return to.

Gorgeous hotel”

Not cheap and limited access to the spa for guests a bit of an issue - grates a bit that you can only use it 7 until 9 in the am ... but what a spa it is. (Nearly always deserted too... ). The only problem with the location is that there's no parking (though that in a way inevitable given the excellence of the location).
