The hotel was perfect for a short break if you want a reasonable priced hotel It wasn’t luxurious but had all you needed and the btreakfast was excellent The breakfast staff were particularly good and our room was extremely clean Definatlyvthumbs up and we will be visiting again as Clifton is a lovely place to visit The Lido is also well worth a visit for food and ambience

Nice hotel”

We just slept over for one night in order to go to Penzance on the next day. It settles in a quite area and you can go to the Suspension Bridge within minutes by car. Free public parking outside the hotel after 6PM.

Love the place, settings and the surrounding area. We had a warm welcoming from the reception staff and explaining+confirming the changes that have been recommended and agreed earlier. Recommended for guests who like some quiet area with greenery, yet within the city location

Good hotel, great staff”

I stayed in the house next door to the main hotel which was of similar architectural style and only 30 seconds walk from the main hotel. I was happy to discover I had been upgraded to a larger room. The room was very comfortable, clean and attractively presented. I loved the tall windows.and high ceilings. I was slightly unlucky as the couple in the room above mine had a loud argument for about half an hour between 9.45pm and 10.15pm which was quite unsettling. I was unsure whether to call reception to complain or not. It was surprising how clearly I could hear them (although their voices were raised), given the age and substance of the building. I do recognise that guests' arguments are not the fault of the hotel, which is probably why I didn't say anything. Breakfast was fine and at £10 extra seemed reasonable. The dining room was pleasant and staff were attentive. I enjoyed a tasty dish of yogurt with granola and fruit compote. There was also a standard cooked breakfast available which many people appeared to be enjoying. My greatest praise goes to the reception staff. At the time I was due to leave my car battery had died and it took my rescue vehicle 3 hours to arrive. The staff could not have been more sympathetic and helpful. They even called the hotel gardener (at 8pm) who lived nearby to ask him to bring jump leads and his car so we could jump start mine. This he did. As it was, with a 3 hour drive home, I didn't get home until midnight. It would have been a much more miserable evening had it not been for the wonderful staff on duty. Thank you.

Very pleasently surprised ”

Beautiful hotel, after booking late we thought we would getting something lousy for the £75pn. Even when we saw the grand house and lovely decor, we still believe our small double would be lousy. But once we enter our room, we were so happy to be proved wrong. The room was in the basement set of rooms, but it did not feel like it. Plenty of light and a nice breeze needed for a hot August weekend. A small double room felt like is was more of large with a huge bed and many storage spaces. Yet it was the bathroom that was stand out for me. There were steps that led down to the bathroom area. Lots of room and classy decor made you feel like you were in a Hollywood bathroom, something much grander than the £75pn I paid. The location was great, not more than 10 mins walk to the Main Street, and if you didn't feel like walking there was a bus stop outside (£1.50 for a single), you could ride down to old town. Parking was a worry for us, due to parking in the centre being expensive and hard, but the hotel offers parking £5 a day. Which is really reasonable considering you won't be moving it while you are staying there. It might be worth getting there early in the day to get a stop though. We didn't try any of the food, due to wanting to try local cafes. I would highly recommend this place, the price was amazing for what we got and it offers much more than hotels more expensive, I will definitely be going again.

Very pleasant hotel”

It was lovely to stay in a traditional small English hotel in the very attractive area of Clifton, walking distance to the city centre. The room was very comfortable. The breakfast is really good - very nicely presented, with best local croissants.

Quiet hotel”

This hotel is valued for money because it is quiet and has beautiful scene nearby. The staff here is very helpful and they solved most of my problems in the way of sightseeing and shopping. However, it is far from the city center and there is no resturant nearby and a small supermarket is a few minutes away. Highly recommend to those who also want to visit University of Bristol and Suspension bridge.

A good plus was its proximity to Clifton which is a charming suburb of Bristol. Another plus was the food which was well cooked and plentiful.

Overpriced.”

Wonderful building but very tired decor. Too expensive not to include breakfast (we went out instead) and an extra £5 for parking, not mentioned when booking added to the disappointment. A loo that was bolted properly to the floor would have been nice too, as would a shower with a bit more oomph.

Indeed, after receiving the booking confirmation I replied by e-mail just to advise that we would have a car and that the specified parking was one of the main reasons for choosing this hotel. When we arrived and were told this I obviously looked so surprised that the receptionist said "it's on the reservation confirmation. Luckily I had printed it, so I showed it and we could see it was not mentioned. Then she said it was in a later follow-up e-mail - but since we'd been travelling since making the booking I had not been able to check my e-mails. Then she said it was on the booking website, and she showed me her screen. I looked, but it looked different. I realised she had Booking.com open, and pointed out that I had not used that booking site, or any other one that linked to it. So she asked which site I had used and I said "Agoda", to which the replied "That's impossible!" Again, I had a printou

Great location and nice family rooms”

The hotel is very well located in Clifton and is competitively priced for Bristol , usually cheaper than downtown. Service can be haphazard and I'm not a big fan of the restaurant, but there are plenty of alternatives locally. Overall a good choice.

3 night stay”

I don't like finding previous guests' hair on the floor of my room, in the shower, under the tea cup, nor their old shampoo under the window curtain. And I don't like being a room number. Disappointed with the service. Food was great.

Overpriced”

Having stayed in a number of hotels in the area we were disappointed. The room was a little on the small side considering the price paid. We had a lovely evening and slept well, we just felt it was a little overpriced (and that was with a discount).

Fab location”

This is a fab hotel for staying in Clifton. Lots of lovely bars, cafes and shops very close by. Gorgeous old hotel which could do with a little updating but would definitely use again.

You can park in the car park (cheap £5 for 2 days) and walk in to the city or bus it which is good.

Lovely hotel. We highly recommend. My only niggle is one I have with most places... The duvet is too heavy for summer but there isn't a lighter alternative.
