A regular stop for me.”

I stay at the Barkston Rooms pretty regularly. For the price, you can't really beat their dorms. I could ask for cleaner shower facilities but otherwise this is a great place to stay if you're on a budget. The location is good -- just round the corner from the Tube and handy for many bus connections.

The location is great! London is big so you will always have to use transport, but from the Hotel is very easy to walk anywhere, and it is only one block away from Earls Court underground station. The staff is super nice and helpfull, specially a guy who gave us free breakfast the day we arrived because of some issues we had getting there, he was very nice to us.

Value for money if looking for somewhere convenient and affordable. Central heating was way too warm and stifling. No direct Night Buses to Earl's Court Station, so not easy to get home late at night.

The rooms here are large so no dorm-claustrophobia. The bathrooms are adequate and well-maintained day to day although the building is old and probably due some upgrade but a great place for a good sleep and right next to Earls Court tube in a lovely street

Good experience! Would book again!”

I had a great experience. It was easy to find and only 1 minute away from a grocery market, McDonalds, cafes and tons of food area. The staff was nice. The bathroom was clean and was cleaned everyday - very important for my criteria of choosing a place to stay. The bathroom shower was open and shared so make sure you're okay being naked around other women. But what surprised me the most was how big the room was. It had 5 bunk beds and fit 10 women in there. I was really surprised how much space we had. Most of the other hostels I've been to were very small for about a similar price. There was even a bit of decor -- which is nice, but not expected for the price I'm paying. I ended up staying 3 extra days b/c I had some changes in travel plans and they were easy about it. If you do end up doing that, make sure you book online first. If you book with the reception staff, it's an extra $5/night and they didn't tell me that. Overall, I would stay here again!!

I love it because it has direct easybus to Gatwick airport as I'll fly to Gatwick near the hotel (need to walk around 10 minutes still bearable). My first-time experience stays in a dorm and likes it as the dorm only for females got the new friends and new experience. The toilet also in the room so it's easy. The room so tidy and clean and they provide clean towel for the price.

Good value for the money”

For the price I can't complain, especially because it is located near Central London. The staff were ok as I did not have problem checking in. The room and the building definitely needs renovating as it was old but it was ok to stay for a nights sleep. Would go again if I find a cheap room to stay for the night while I go out in London.

Expecting next time the room and the inside facilities more improvement and clean when they finished the renovation. But if you are Chelsea FC fans from overseas, there is one of budget choices to SHORT stay, hostel located close to Earl's Court Station and take few train stops to Fullham station and turn left walk around 3mins to get the stadium, around there restaurants, cafe and supermarkets just short walk to find it.

Worst Hostel I've Ever Stayed in my Life”

The lack of cleanliness in the hostel is apalling. For example, in the always permanently smelly toilet (feces smell) on my floor there was a smear on the wall of something looking like blood right on top of the toilet. It never was removed. And I stayed a full week. On my third day my mobile was stolen from my bed while I was sleeping. I was staying on a 6- people room. The communal area looks like a prison canteen, with hard wooden benches, a microwave and a pot of boiling water. There's a TV on the aforementioned room as well but the place is so unwelcoming that you just don't care about it. Overall the entire building is gloomy and despite being large it feels oppressive, like some glat from the soviet era. Everyone seemed to be very silent and it felt like if everyone was feeling guilty for just being there. On a positive note the cleaning guys, the spanish receptionist and the late night reception staff were nice. The rest of the staff atrocious. There is this dude on reception that never ever smiles and is ready to snap at you for anything, no matter what you request. Yes! I agree. You get what you pay for, but believe me there are many hostels in London with equal or less price than this one, which would be heaven compared to Barkston rooms. Not reccomended. My advice: stay the hell away from it!

Hmmm it was over priced and the staff slack”

We had somewhere to sleep

The staff we not interested in me at all. We arrived one hour before check in and were told to come back (fair enough) we out our bags two stories down in the storage room and went to a walk came back. Upon checking in she told us to go and get our bags so we did, so that's two stories down, we come back and our dorm is right next to where the bags were in the storage room. When I mentioned this to her she brushed me off. The Internet was only in the lobby as it mostly is with hostel and you had to pay for it. The dorm was full although they had many levels and even another building they filled the one dorm with every guest that was staying there. 10 guests and one dorm FULL. Saves on cleaning you know. Chelsea is a nice suburb and the tube was easy.

Of only...”

Barkston Rooms undermines it's own potential. If only the proprietors would understand this. They make a water boiler available but not the cups and spoons to go with the coffee and tea making. They make available a microwave (one for a property as large as that - no less than 250 beds, I'm sure!) but not crockery and cutlery!!! No lounge, no kitchen facilities!
