"Overall, we enjoyed staying at Washington Hotel in Shinjuku. My husband and I went to Ni-Chome quite often since it was the "gayborhood" of Shinjuku and they have a lot of bars, etc. It was a $10 cab ride tho back and forth, but anyone can take the subway and save $$$. Plus Harajuku (Fashion Capital of the Japan) was only 2 stops away from the JR Shinjuku line. It was pretty good. Would I stay again @ Washington Hotel? Sure. I would specifically just ask for a NON-SMOKING room. Everything IS expensive (for the most part I mean) in Japan but it's all worth it. Definitely made my experience worth-while. I LOVE the country. "Located very close to Shinjuku station (JR/NEX), and the bus station is at the same location towards Haneda airport. For those who want to go to Tokyo Big Sight for shows, there is a direct train from platform 1 Saikyo line. There is a Macdonald's right at the corner and loads of food at Shinjuku central if you walk a little. Yodobashi/BIC is 5-10min away on foot. The room size is bigger compared to Sunroute on the next street with similar pricing. The room had nice touches like a heated mirror (works great after a shower), mobile phone with unlimited data and free roaming calls to some countries (great for tourist), full size complimentary water and bottled shower foam and shampoo. Definitely my new fav hotel in Shinjuku. "

"My daughter and I checked into Shinjuku Prince Hotel on 7-9 May 09. The reason for choosing Shinjuku Prince was because the proevious guest house that we stayed at Hatagaya was cramped and uncomfortable. We choose Shinjuku Prince also partly because it was recommended by our friend who had stayed at the hotel. Upon check in the receptionist was very courteous and helpful. The procedure was swift and we got our room within seconds. As we stepped into the room, we were pleasantly surprised by the beautiful layout and design. Though it was rather small in term of size (semi Twin Room), it was compensated by its beautiful layout and design. The room is certainly very comfortable and we enjoyed it. It has all the amenities you needed in a hotel setting except a boiler where you could make yourself a cup of tea or coffee. Other than this we absolutely have no complaint of the room. As Shinjuku Prince is located in the heart of Shinjuku and the railways and subway station, it makes travelling around Shinjuku and beyond a breeze. We enjoyed the shopping and dinning around Shinjuku and there are certainly plenty of restaurants and shopping that one could keep him or herself occupied. Overall we certainly had a lovely and beautiful stay at Shinjuku and enjoyed our holidays in Japan. It is absolutely memorable! "

"The hotel is gorgeous. I stayed here with my family for 6 days and still enjoyed the hotel. Compared with hotels in Shinjuku, Shibuya, or Ueno, It is peaceful. Also, it is very convenient to travel from the hotel to the center of the city like Shinjuku or Ginza (around 10 meter to the subway). The hotel room is beautiful and clean. The hotel provides abundant of utensils (ex. an iron) and facilities. (ex. on-zen and fitness room)The staff is nice and ready to help. I was impressed by the service. The price is reasonable. If anyone is interested in staying at Tokyo this place is a good choice."

"Booked this hotel as it’s new and to my surprise it’s stunning. The hotel aesthetic was on another level. Instagram worthy. Great ambiance. Staff are young, cheerful and friendly! Will stand up and greet you without fail when you leave and enter the complex. Top-notch service. Rooms were clean and beautiful. Love the scent of the shampoo and body wash. The bed was extremely comfortable. Comes with a mini fridge, safe, hangers, hairdryer, cups, toiletries and bathrobe. The Wifi is really strong which was amazing. There’s coin laundry that comes with a vending selling detergent and other essentials. There’s a place to chill on the second floor too. Also a cafe at the first level. There’s a lot of nearby convenient store, like 7-11. Vending machines are everywhere along the street. There’s tons of food place around the hotel. Some are even open till late. About 5 minutes walking distance to 3 subway line. Walking distance to Shinjuku too. Extremely satisfied with this beautiful hotel!"

"The hotel is located around 400 metres walk from nish-shinjuku metro, but a bit far from Shinjuku station. It's very clean and with friendly staff. There is a 24 hour 7-11 convenience just in this building level B1, which is really handy. The room is quite small, very hard to open two big luggage at the same time, which is very common in Shinjuku hotels. "

"Nice Position, Shopping malls & JR Shinjuku Station &Metro nearby, Excellent services all the staying from checking in, everyone friendly, smiling & JPN style attitude. So many delicious restaurants in the hotel, most are worth to have a try, as some need to reserve first or u maybe could NOT in for too much guests, there's a little supermarket until 2or3AM B1F. Lounge is not bad with a nice view. The room is bigger than most other hotel in shinjuku I've stayed, but windows can't opened, so all the fresh air came from air conditioner feels bad. BUT The most CRAZIEST is as a guest I can NOT order anything in any restaurant delivering to my room, even room service foods menu offers littlest choices, trust me, u will be boring with them, as u know there are more choices & u have tried them downstairs. Also there's free shuttle service to Disney roundtrip, just reserve it, love it! Anyway, it's a great choice to stay. BUT so so bad feels while I just want order some more delivering to my room after my lunch or dinner in the same restaurant, All say NO WAY. It confused me so so much. Well maybe u guys think ur room menu is good enough. As a eater, I have to say NOOOOOOOOO!"

"Pros: - very near the heart of Shinjuku - has a lot of sockets to plug all your gadgets in for charging - very quiet and peaceful neighborhood - about 15 mins away from Shinjuku Station, and you can marvel at the neon lights on the way there - Family Mart and 7/11 are within close proximity Cons: - This was by far the smallest room we booked in 4 different hotels in Japan, and was slightly more expensive as well. OVERALL: This hotel is highly recommended."

More about Shinjuku

Shinjuku is a district that gets a lot of attention in Tokyo. It was founded in the17th century to cater to feudal lords and has remained highly relevant in local society. The country’s first skyscraper was built in what became the Shinjuku Skyscraper District, a spread of high-rise architecture near Shinjuku Central Park. Squarely in the middle of the district is JR Shinjuku Station, the busiest commuter hub in the entire country.

Today, Shinjuku is synonymous with nightlife, and hotels around Shinjuku are popular with backpackers and budget travelers who want to be as close to the after-hours action as possible. The best nightlife follows Kabuki-cyo east of the central station.

Shinjuku may not have the high-street shopping appeal of Ginza, but it still has an outstanding selection of malls. The most popular place to shop is the Shinjuku Isetan flagship store. The National Stadium also generates traffic here.

Despite the partying and commercialism of Shinjuku, there are a few places where weary travelers can escape the crowds and enjoy a few minutes’ peace. The Meiji Jingu Shinto shrine is a high-ranking sightseeing attraction well worth an hour or two. Another beautiful place to escape for quiet stroll is Shinjuku Gyoen Park, which was originally laid out for the imperial family.

Most of the accommodation in Shinjuku huddles around the central railway station. Since this is the biggest commuter hub in the country, retailers vie for consumer attention with flashy advertisements here. Commuters also make use of lesser hubs in the area, including JR Takadanonbaba Station and JR Yoyogi Station.
