Noisy ”

Unless you are a very deep sleeper, this hotel is not for you. It is SO noisy at night as the walls are very thin and you can hear other guests. We were kept up both nights despite moving rooms due to this issue. The rooms are basic and clean but there were some hairs in the bathroom. This would be an ideal hotel if you’re looking for somewhere cheap to crash after a night out but not if you want a peaceful getaway.

My 8 year old daughter and I spent 2 nights here for her birthday weekend. Lovely, friendly staff. Great position close to Broadmead and the watershed restaurants. Room was small but clean. New bathrooms were great. Shame the pool is closed.

A sorry decline”

I have stayed at this hotel on a number of occasions in recent years. As a criminal lawyer attending the nearby Crown Court I have always been very highly satisfied of the standards and have recommended the hotel to others. I am therefore sad to report that my fiancé and I regret staying on Sunday 04/10/20. We checked in at 3.00 pm after a long drive from South Cornwall. We were told that no refreshments were available until 6.00 pm - no tea, coffee, room service or anything. The receptionist (who was most courteous and did his very best) explained that the following morning's breakfast was now "grab and go" which meant completing a form (by 8.00 pm the night before) to specify a bacon or sausage roll. Cereal, fruit juice yogurt etc would be pre-packed ready to "go." As we made our way to our room the corridors were littered with uncollected laundry bags and trays. The room was basic but functional. Whilst the bed was comfortable there was no mattress protector. There were Camomile tea sachets in the room but no other sort. We had completed the form for a "grab and go" breakfast rolls. Sadly the buns were very dry and so we threw ours away. The ravages of the pandemic upon the hospitality sector are well known but that does not excuse the lack of the bare minimum standards for a four star hotel. The hotel is now a soulless edifice and a far cry from that which once lived up so well to its "Grand" title. I very much hope that urgent restorative action is taken to bring some life and vitality back to this once proud establishment.

Great stay hotel reception staff were excellent, however the bar staff demonstrated very poor custom”

No heat on 3rd floor so up graded to another room and voucher for complimentary drinks. Eventually, after being ignored, when we presented the voucher in the bar, we told it was for 2 and not 3 people, even though it said 3 people on it! Guy said he’d have to discuss with his mgr. on his return he said it only covered beer, wine and soft drinks! Quite embarrassing and thoughtless in his delivery. Did not use the bar after this! It doesn’t cost anything to acknowledge customers or be polite!

Great refurb”

I stayed here on a Sunday and I was so impressed with the refurbishment , love the feel of the room and the bathroom was great. Got woken up at 5:19 by and alarm close by I was on the first floor but that was not the hotels faults it did go on for ages though. I like the location and I will definitely come back if I can get it for a similar price.

Hotel in a good location”

I booked a family room for me and two older children. The room size is in fact a normal double bed room (one double bed) but with a sofa bed in it which is not comfortable. Therefore the room space becomes rather narrow and inconvenient. Buffet breakfast is moderate.

Great check in, smoothly handled fire alarm drill..!!! Food so so. Some meetings in restaurant during the day-so bitings and staff would be great. Some issue with departure taxi- male at reception not helpful....

Great Location!”

We were a group of 3 people traveling to Bristol for fun/tourism. The hotel is wonderfully located with lots of cafes and shops within walking distance. The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. Love the decor! We would stay again.

Great hotel and location”

Great hotel in the heart of Bristol. We just booked a standard double room, which was a decent size. Rooms are clean and have very arty fixtures and fittings. The only downside is that during the winter the room was a little cold. It does have an air com unit that blows either hot or cold, but didn't want to have dry heat blowing around the room. There was a great selection of food at the breakfast buffet which was always being topped up. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The only negatives are that the instructions about the car parking aren't very clear, the turning is right after the hotel and on a narrow street where there is only room for one car at a time, regardless of whether you are going in or out. The swimming pool and spa are outside the hotel underneath the car parking area, so you have to go out of the hotel to get to them. Overall it was a good hotel to stay in for a weekend.

Great location but annoyingly flawed”

It's a nicely decorated hotel - breakfast is great and the rooms are unremarkable but comfortable. Few small things really irritated me though - first of all, the sink with TWO taps, fixed in position, one with freezing water and one with boiling water? What's with that? Secondly, the phone line. Had lots of trouble when trying to order room service - it would work in the day and then not at night when many of the outside restaurants (I was there on weeknights) had closed leading me to skip dinner on 2 occasions. Not exactly ideal. Cleaning staff also came in a little more regularly than I would have appreciated, and they could have waited a little longer for a response before unlocking the door themselves. They were admittedly very friendly, as were the rest of the staff. WiFi is extremely fast and room has coffee and tea. Sockets are in weird positions, would have liked one near the bedside table. My room had a hideous view, though I'm sure there are plenty that don't.

Pros: location, parking is easy and cheap (10.50 for 24 hours with discount from hotel), staff welcoming and very helpful, great quality and selection for breakfast, very comfortable room and bed with lots of space, decor is up to date, great shower. Cons: swimming pool was out of action on this occasion

Lovely hotel. Gorgeous decor, comfy beds, a few snags”

Lovely decor and location. Was an issue in that the second we walked into bedroom we could hear horrendous wailing noise from outside the window. Room was at rear side of building as oppose to front of building entrance side. We had a look out of the window and it seemed to be a huge extraction unit for air conditioning or something. We notified reception on the way out and said there is no way anyone could sleep with that noise so we requested room on other side of the corridor. This was provided with no fuss and they moved our luggage for us when we were out. Room number 2 had a leak in bathroom ceiling from room above which had been patched up and you could hear it still dripping and collection in ceiling cavity. Didnt effect our stay and i figured it was a snag from recent renovations. Parking discounted from 17.00 to 10.00 for 24 hours for hotel guests which is great for city centre location. Car park very snug though i have a kia ceed and a saloon or 4x4 would really struggle.

Staffs not so helpful or professional”

The rooms are okay. Location was pretty good too. Tried to find out what time the bar closes and all I got was “I don’t know.” ... I mean, the bar is just right next to the front desk and if you don’t know you won’t even bother to find out? Kept telling me that there’s a party upstairs and when I asked if the party is opened for public I got “I don’t know” again. Housekeeping staffs bumping into my room on the second day of my stay. And knocking on every door on my floor waking everybody up on my third day. I must say they are noisier than other guests who’s been having the party for the night. I heard the lady next door coming out of her door complaining about the noise and staffs answering back with an attitude. Not recommending this place to anybody.

A classical hotel in the old city centre”

It is a classical kind of boutique hotel located in the old part of the city. I love the location as it is easy to access to various places of interest from here. Lots of cafe, restaurant and shopping around the area. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The decoration is simple but practical. I have not seen room installed with these many socket points so we could charge all devices/ equipment at the same time. The breakfast spreads were satisfactory and the staff service was really good.
