Overlooking Ellerthwaite Square and on the heart of Windermere village is the wonderful Rayrigg Villa Guest House. Dating from 1873, the house was built as the home of a prosperous corn merchant and, though the house has been refurbished, it has lost none of its original grandeur. Situated on the heart of Windermere village, with shops, restaurants, pubs all within 2 minutes walk.

Good location ”
Situated closer to Windermere end of the main road. Very handy for the restaurants. 20 min walk to Bowness or bus stops outside. Tight car park for 6 cars, but plenty of parking on street and right outside if lucky.

OK for one night ”
We booked a last minute stay so we were limited with places available in Windermere. We were only staying for one night so decided to overlook some of the negative reviews we saw for Rayrigg as we knew we wouldn't be in the room much. We parked for free on the street as didn't want to bother with the small car park where people complained about being blocked in. We checked in, were given the keys and told the room number. Had to pretty much work everything else out ourselves including when to checkout out and what time breakfast is etc. Luckily there was info in the room. Unsure if this limited customer service was because of covid. We had room 6 on the top floor. One double bed and one single. We expected the room to be small and it was. The bathroom was hard to get into the door opening onto the bed and the shower was a squeeze for both me ( a 5'3 woman) and my partner (a 6'3 man). Water temperature was temperamental. The room overall though was comfortable and clean. It was quiet and in a great area to access Windermere and Bowness down by the lake. We ordered the free breakfast via a paper ordering sheet the night before. The full English was fine, with hot drunk and toast. The dining room was pleasant and there was buffet option too. The lady who served us was welcoming and friendly. There was hot drink making facilities in the room too with cookies. Overall, we kept our expectations low and the accommodation didn't ruin our one night stay. It is definitely not 4 stars but it is fine for one night if only two of you. Any longer and I'd try and book another b&b in the area.

No way a 4 star more like 2. Left a day early due to the shower not working in room and cant go without washing for 3 days this is a basic for any hotel. Does not look like photos and is in a poor condition generally. Basically spoiled our weekend away.
