Lake Tazawa (Akita) as a Base ”
'That Sounds Good' jazz cafe and inn -is a super family friendly inn. We stayed for 4 nights in July for B&B in a family room (with loft access). Suited our purpose. Laundry facilities available. Bar & cafe. The proprietors; Yuri and Tatsuya , both speak English and were extremely helpful. We got the komachi shinkansen from Tokyo station to Tazawako and rented a car in Obonai (the town of Tazawako) you will need a car to get about. It is rural. We were visiting friends in the area of Obonai and Kakunodate. The lake is beautiful and it was a very relaxing stay. Jazz music is piped continuously throughout the day in the main cafe area but at a very low gentle beat. We were even there for the weekly Saturday live jazz music session! A great night. There is a cafe and a superb breakfast was provided of seasonal Japanese cuisine. We loved it.

Cozy Inn next to Tazawako”
A very pleasant experience in a nice little cafe & Inn next to Tazawako (Lake Tazawa). The Inn owner couples speak good English and is very friendly. They are always willing to introduce nearby area to you. The facilitates provides bike and car rental service if you want to explore the Tazawako area. Since this is a Cafe, there is heavy music (Jazz) element implemented into the facilitate. There is a piano sharp bathing, Jazz music playing through in the common area, the dinning area is filled with guitars, drum set and a grand piano. The owner even host regular Jazz performance for local. This is a small Inn there is only one bath room and guest have to reverse the using time in advance upon arrival. And there is no toilet inside your room, there are like three toilets in the common area. The owner will drive you from/to the nearest bus stop where you can take the bus to the JR station. If you are walking from the bus stop to the inn, it would likely take around 30 mins.

Exceptional”
That Sounds Good was a highlight our month long trip to Japan. The owners Tatsuya and Yuri were amazingly kind and accommodating. The music theme is so delightful and we were treated to a performance by a college jazz club on our first night. We were also thrilled by the nightly baths in their piano shaped tub. If you are relying on buses it can be a little far from the bus stop, but Tatsuya was always happy to drive us there. We also loved all the meals in their cafe.

Fantastic atmosphere in the heart of nature. ”
Second time staying here, first time around 2011 and now visiting again in 2019 I was not disappointed. Friendly husband and wife team who try to fulfill any requests and speak enough English to make stay comfortable. Excellent location seconds away from the lake but you really need a car to get around. Food is great quality, not so much in terms of quantity but extra items avaliable on the menu. Lovely music in the dining area always, it is called "Sounds Good" after all! Family bath room has a true onsen feel to it, all in all a really relaxing stay next to one of my favorite places in Tohoku.

Truly a lovely stay”
Tatsuya and Yuri were such kind hosts. They offered to pick us up from the bus station since the inn is located a bit further out from the main road leading to the lake (about 30 minute walk). Warm welcome gifts, excellent English, clean and tidy but also very cosy hotel. We stayed in the lake view twin room which was absolutely beautiful. Nice onsen to relax in while listening to some quiet jazz. We ordered some food for dinner and were pleased with every dish we got; Yuri’s breakfast (which she kindly made vegetarian) was delicious too! Cannot recommend this place enough, it’s such a pleasant change from busy cities.

Simply incredible. One of the best experiences we had in Japan!!”
Simply incredible. Yuli san and Tatsuya san are the loveliest people and the most gracious hosts one could hope for. The inn is charming in every way: the rooms are spacious and comfortable, the bath is a treat and the jazz music playing in the background sets a cozy a relaxed mood. We were lucky to be there on a Sunday and see a live session, an unexpected, strange and wonderful experience in rural Tohoku. Tatsuya san will gladly pick you up and drive to the bus station at Tazawakohan when you arrive and for any day trips you'd like to take (mount Akita Komagatake is highly reccommended!). We also borrowed bicycles and spent a day riding around the lake which was marvellous. Yuli san's food was incredible, and kept surprising and delighting us. Highly reccommended!

Amazing! Highly recommended”
The owners are very nice. They can pick you up at the bus station. You can see Tazawako outside your room. The room is cozy and nice. Even though there is only 1 Japanese style shower room, but it is very big and you can actually use with your friends or family together. Food was really great. Price is reasonable compared to other parts in Japan. The restaurant there has jazz band or other events that you can enjoy. We really had a wonderful time at this place :)

peaceful place”
A very homely feel place, 1st-time self-drive at japan for us. So we always book a hotel via Agoda last minute late at night. Upon arrival, a very quiet cold atmosphere turned into jazz music evening lounge at the ground level of the cafe which was very soothing for us as a late-night traveler. The host invited and cook some home cook meals and share with us together with their friends and of course together with the famous jazz musician. Homely feel but shared toilet facilities which we are not really used to.

Very comfortable stay in Tazawako with the lake view”
Tatsuya-san and Yuli-san are a super host. They are friendly and very kind. We have a nice and comfortable stay. The facility is very clean and homey, with relaxing jazz songs all through the day and evening. The bedroom is spacious and comfortable. Despite there is only 1 shared-bathroom, it is spacious and very impressive. Yuli-san is very good at cooking. We enjoy several meals here. There are a variety of drinks, and the price is reasonable. Tatsuya-san is very kind to pick up and drop off us at Tazawakohan bus stop. They are helpful and promptly respond to our requests and inquiries.

Lovely stay by the lake!”
Tatsuya & Yuri were wonderful hosts - friendly and so helpful. I stayed in a family loft with a beautiful view over the lake. The room was immaculately clean. I was apprehensive about the communal bathroom however once I realised that it simply meant you have to book a slot it was a much more pleasant experience. The onsen style bath was beautifully clean and wonderfully warm. Complimentary breakfast was not only plentiful but delicious. The background jazz music was also very soothing. Location was lovely. I rented a car from Toyota near the Shinkansen station (they came to collect me and also dropped me back) which made getting around to nearby attractions very easy. Altogether great experience, thank you!

We requested omakase dinner for all 3 nights , each night Yuri San prepares different main courses , soup and desserts which we look forward each night , the room was spacious and clean . The bath time booking system was so unique that we have no problem to get our preferred time slot , the piano shape onsen was so relaxing the water temperature was just nice for the autumn weather . I would highly recommended this BnB for couple or family with kids but no so suitable for elderly on loft room

Perfect place & amazing food”
Tatsuya & Yuli have welcomed us warmly and took good care of us. The house is charming and located by the lake. You can rent bikes to go around. The room was big and we slept very well! We were the only guests so we had no issue with noisy neighbours :) There's onmy one bathroom (nice onsen actually) so maybe it's an issue if it's full... but it wasn't for us. You can hear relaxing jazz music in the lounge area all day (and night maybe) long. Great service: Yuli picked us up at the bus station and Tatsuya drove us back to the train station! Last thing: food is really really good. We had dinner and breakfast, I really recommand it. T Thank you Yuli and Tatsuya, we had a wonderful time.

Don't know why Tazawa isn't more popular.”
Warm welcome of Yuri and Tatsuya, delicious Japan and western-style food, many local beers and other drinks available, cosy room with lake view, close to gorgeous hot springs in the nearby mountains easily accessible via bus or car (Nyuto Onsen Village, we tried the Tsurunoyu onsen); only drawback: all hiking trails that we tried to walk were at some point completely overgrown and absolutely inaccessible - it is a pity as this area seems to be an incredible hiking area!

Hidden Laid Back Gem on Lake Tazawa!”
If you like great coffee and jazz in a relaxed comfy wooden interior cabin, this place is for you! It is well located right on Lake Tazawa! Taking the bikes and riding around the lake to the Herb Heart Garden and Gozanoishi Jinja was good fun. The beds with a view were a comfy change. We loved the ofuro with MUSIC! Most of all we appreciated Yuri's wonderful food. We enjoyed HOMEMADE bread and her tasty dinner set with some great sake. We enjoyed their wonderful hospitality very much. Thank you!

Quirky and cool, with great home-cooking”
This place is really cool - a jazz joint in the middle of the country. It has pleasant wood-panelled rooms. We found the stairs to our loft a little steep. It's close to the lake, but not so great without a car as the facilities for walking are not good, and it's a little way from the village. But the host gave us a lift, and his lovely wife is a wonderful cook. The best breakfast we had in Japan.
