A really friendly place to chill”

          Super friendly

The guesthouse is clean with a very nice shared kitchen. The most fantastic aspect is the friendliness of the place. I was there on Christmas and on Christmas Eve they organized a Christmas party (with gift exchange) for the guests. Management provided a free dinner and alcohol. I feel really fortunate that I booked Chill Out versus a chain hotel. I would have been lonely at a chain but was welcomed and made new friends at Chill Out.

the staff are so great and the rooms are fantastic!

we booked this accommodation last minute as we needed a room to stay that was closer to the airport. malate is a really happening spot and runs 24 hours 7 days a week! all the hustle and bustle that manila is world renowned for! if you love japanese and korean food this is the spot! central location and modern, comfortable and spacious facilities. there was a bit of a mix up with what i thought i booked and what we actually booked but the (im presuming) manager pretty much gave us a free upgrade and the night staff filipina was such a incredibly inspiring woman we stayed up all night chatting with her! i loved this place and will most certainly return! may i add great value for money !!!!

Value for money: you can't go wrong”

          Good value, clean, great staff

Be realistic, this is a budget hotel. Rooms are of decent size, very clean, powerful A/C (my room had one), very good wifi, nice exotic wooden floors in most rooms I've seen and French owner is a gem for travelling info on Manila. Sure there is a bit of wear and tear, but for the price you pay, I find it very satisfying. I paid for a superior AC room. Located near all activities and nightlife in Malate, I never had any problem sleeping because of noise. Even though some other reviews seem to indicate so, I have never felt not secure in this hotel, but hey, this is personal I presume. Did not try their restaurant downstairs, but two French guys from Paris told me that it could not be beaten for the price. Good helpful staff.

          Location, peaceful, friendly helpful staff

The aircon room at back is so quiet. Comfy bed with huge room and large bathroom. Staff are very friendly and helpful and kitchen area is great. Sheets and room is cleaned daily if requested and free wifi is amazing! I was overcoming dengue fever from Palawan and totally had chill out stay at chill out! The manager even lent me some kitchen appliance to make papaya leaf juice which healed my dengue. Totally recommend this place, for friendly staff, great kitchen/common area and huge rooms and great wifi and clean.

Fan room is too hot, had to open the door at night and put the fan near the door, to let in some cool air from the corridor”

Booked the fan room because it`s really good price, but the room is very hot. It`s not easy to get a whole night sleep, had to go to take cold shower 2 times in a night to cool myself or else had to open the door, and put the fan near the door, because the corridor is much cooler, so at least change the air in the room. When complained, they told me to add 20 Euro for an AC room, but with that price you can easily find better deals near the same area of the hotel Pillow is the hardest pillow I ever touched, during my South East Asia Travels, had to sleep without a pillow for the first time in my life Location is brilliant, near the nightlife but you cannot hear the noise from nightlife at night. Walking distance to the Mall, with great restaurants.

          Big room

I had read comments that some taxi drivers had problems finding the place, so I did screenshots of maps on my phone. Really glad we did. Chill Out was not as social as other hostels we've stayed at, but there was a communal kitchen and couches. The guesthouse was clean. Yes, there was the occasional cockroach and one or two mosquitoes but I can't think of a place we stayed where we didn't find those...It did seem a little overpriced, so if you are expecting a lot out of the deluxe room, look elsewhere.

          clean, spacious room”

nice staff, clean room, self-service (hot tea, coffee)

It was quite convenient for us to reach this guesthouse from Pasay Airport. The staff was very nice and helpful, in return we lefted them some gifts. In the cooking area we could use their cups and microonde machine to do some simple cookings. They also offered coffee and tea for free. The room was spacious and clean, with fan and airconditonor. Malate is relatively crowded so that we felt not very quiet when staying there in the evening.Easy to get to the Robinson's to do shopping, change money, etc...

Just be careful of the location ”

Nice staff, Very cheap rates, rather clean bathrooms

I first booked a fan room which was located on the second floor, although it is quite cheap, I couldn't stand a night staying in that room. I was there in November but the temperature is still high and a lot of humidity in the room and the hostel. The fan was powerful and working okay, but when I shut the door of the room, the room got so muggy and I just couldn't stand it. There was no window either in the room, almost felt like a cell. Then after that I found out it was impossible for me to stay in that room, I asked the staff that I wanted to change my room to an AC room, all I needed to do that was just top up extra P300 per night. It was actually still a very good deal. and the AC room I got after was tidy, smells clean, AC worked super well. I was well satisfied with the hostel after all. You have to pay with cash at the hotel. They don't accept credit cards. I saw a huge roach casually hanging around in my room. If you are those who can't cope with that kinds of stuff, I don't think this hostel is for you. About the location, it is basically pretty close to the centre of the red light district in Manila. It is quite dangerous to walk around the area during late night, you might get robbed. I only used Uber cars to go anywhere from the hostel. Just don't hang around much in this area.

The staff are really helpful and friendly. The location is really good for me. and the security is nice.

The staff are always present to help you. They are really friendly and for the travelers they give really good advice to visit Philippines. It s an excellent place to start and to finish a Philippines roundtrip or even to visit Manila.

Cheap but expect very basic facilities

The room was very small. Aircond worked well though. Quite close to Manila Bay and Malate so stay here if you only go back to sleep. Close to the night clubs and bars in Malate. So stay here if you want to walking distance to these places.

Good budget hotel, lovely staff, but not the location we desired”

my partner and I have never travelled the philippenes and we had booked this hostel prior to our flight arrival. the accomodation itself is ok, it's good value for money considering it is so cheap. However as very unexperienced backpackers, my partner and I did not feel safe in this particular area of malate. We never saw another backpacker/tourist in the area and there appeared to be alot of sex workers and brothels around. We would would have ventured further if we felt safe enough (and less jetlagged) but on this occasion we didn't and decided to go to Makati instead. honestly though we couldn't fault the staff at this hostel, they were very friendly and extremely helpful.

Basic Hostel with good location & kitchen”

central located, clean, after checkout you can leave your luggage there

The Guesthouse is centrally located and the rooms are fine. They are a little bit tiny and with a bad air circulation, but clean. It seems the rooms have been renovated. The staff tries to be helpful, but if you ask about something it might be that the answer is not correct. I prefered the shared bathroom to a private bathroom, as there was no door/curtain between bedroom and bathroom and the privacy was definitly lacking. All in all I would recommend this Guesthouse. I stayed there twice during my stay on the Philippines and didn't regret it.

Cost of the rooms and the new renovation of the hotel.

Philippine Airlines 3 day delay in my flight departure from Australia meant I couldn't have my 2 days at the Chill Out Guesthouse. According to my wife who checked out the hotel prior to my expected arrival a)The hotel offers reasonable accommodation. b)The rooms are small c) The hotel is not in a very nice area d) She did not feel safe to stay there on her own

          Budget place with no expection”

          Cheap, location, friendly staffs

Staying in Chill out guest house's benefits are; 1. Cheap 2. friendly owner and staffs 3. reasonably close from most of things you want to see in Manila although this is full of dodgy looking business area... When we choose cheap budget accommodation for whatever reason we all know it won't be like a luxury hotel and we prepare to accept the whole situation that may shock us but when you get there, still some surprising is waiting for you. I would not and did not complain about finding mouse in my room and down stair restaurant, cockroaches in showroom, people and staffs smoke inside of hotel, very old dirty towel, thin and dark white colour bedding set, dirty pillows, room with no window..... because end of day as long as it's suit with your budget it's fine. I wish all the best for Olivier the owner and the staffs.

If you are after the backpackers room be aware they don't have windows. Room is really boxy and there is no air to breathe, good for no longer than one night. Average value for money but certainly in a good location, centre of malate, close to the restaurants and shop mall. Just near the main road from where you can catch a jeepney for just 8 peso/Pax. If you are non smoking be aware that there is a smoking area in the kitchen, just near the backpackers rooms.
