Where to stay in Ambleside
Ambleside hotels & accommodations

We had a large room, overlooking the lake, with French doors and Juliet balcony - huge comfortable bed and nice decor. One small niggle, there's very little hanging space in the wardrobe. It was fine for us as we were only there for a short break, but for a longer stay I would want a bit more. Great food in the restaurant, besutifully cooked and presented, and the sta...

Located in The Lake District, this is a guest house with a little bit of more customer care then other places. You are not only having a bath tub, you have a Jacuzzi. Breakfast is not only breakfast. Buffet comes with eggs and salmon, fresh fruit, berries and yoghurt and a variety of cold cut. The host is friendly and can tell you some stories about the area around. I...

The people who work there are genuinely friendly and really work to make your experience one worth remembering. I stayed in the camping pods outside and it was cosy and cute. The facilities were always clean no matter what time it was. The self catering kitchen is nice and big so there wasn't a time were we had to wait in a queue to eat. It's great value for money. It'...

Had a lovely 5 night stay at this B & B. A great location right in the centre of Ambleside close to shops, pubs and restaurants, traditional and warm atmosphere with friendly and hospitable hosts. Only downside a teeny bit of noise from square at back of the property.

We had a wonderful two night stay at the Waterhead in Ambleside. The setting of the hotel was modern and contemporary yet had a warm, cosy and traditional feel. The rooms were tastefully decorated, clean and very comfortable. The staff of the hotel were also very accommodating and did their best to make our stay comfortable. The location of the hotel is also superb as ...

Cold, heating turned off during the day at night at off peak hours and with very poor windows, it was very cold in the room and bathroom. Being a global traveller and used to 4 or 5 star hotels, the service would be hard to gain 3 star. One positive note, both the gentleman and lady at reception made the stay durable!

This is an excellent hotel. It is in a great location near Ambleside town centre but also convenient for Waterhead. The room was very comfortable. The breakfast is a buffet but included everything you'd want in a full cooked breakfast. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Most importantly there is a car park for at least 5 cars right on site. This is rare in Amble...

Charming B & B right next to great pub with delicious food and right next to Hill Top Bestrix Potter's farm for the book worm. The B&B rooms were lovely and comfortable, bathroom large and modern and morning breakfasts just what you needed before heading off for a hike. Highly recommend.

I stayed with my brother in a Twin Fellside room over an extended weekend for rest and relaxation in the hotels spa, and walking in the fells. Rooms are not connected to any facilities and are a isolated accomadation block. This was not a concern for us as we enjoyed the holiday resort type feeling of the hotel and avoided us having to walk through the reception areas...

I stayed here with my son on Tuesday night having booked a last minute trip to Grasmere. We were given a warm welcome and the lady brought us right to our room which was a nice touch. It was a very nicely furnished ensuite twin room. The rain shower was the best I have encountered yet! Very atmospheric Lakeland Inn for a drink or evening meal. Several great walk...

we arrived around 2pm and were checked in in an efficient and friendly way. we dropped the luggage and noticed that the shower protector screen had become detached at the top and was hanging so we reported this to reception who were great - organising a replacement (not yet ready) and moving our luggage whilst we were out on a walk. on return we had a beer in the bar a...

We loved it here, perfect position for fab walks, stunning views! Hotel was lovely size not too small or big, spa had fantastic view, we didnt eat here but wished we had gon on a friends recommendation as restaurant we went to wasnt up to scratch, breakfast amazing!

We had a fantastic stay at Barnes Fell. Ethna the owner is fabulous, great fun and a good source of local knowledge. The room we stayed in, Loughrigg is very comfortable with super views over the town and the fells to the south and east. Just be a bit careful when sitting on the mattress as it has a tendency to slide across the bedframe coming close to knocking the ...

Although a bit difficult to find on a rainy night due to limited signage, this B&B was worth the effort to locate it. The room was quite large with a lovely sitting area, plenty of light and a nice view across to the church and gardens. The hosts were very hospitable and accommodating, and served up a terrific breakfast. The location meant that once we found a place to...

Dining room looked tired and in need of updating. Portion control at breakfast was obvious, although we declined the black pudding, apple and kidney we still only received one, very small rasher of bacon and the three tiny portions of butter were insufficient although more was provided when requested. Top up of coffee/tea also had tobe requested. Because of these fact...

It's a pity we were here for just a night - it's was so cosy and toasty inside - the property is well located in the beautiful village of Grasmere a short walk away from the lake and pretty much everything! The manager John was friendly and a lovely person! Chatted with him for quite a while after checking in and found his insights into the village of Grasmere, the his...

This hotel is in a good location in Ambleside. The rooms are nicely decorated and in reasonable shape. There are a few areas for improvement... in particular, the walls are paper thin so you can certainly hear everything going on in the adjacent rooms. Additionally, the hotel is unmanned and during our stay the soap in the shower was not replaced so we went without ...

The owners were very accommodating, advising on activities and ways to save money on various excursions. Nothing was too much trouble! The breakfast was the perfect start to the day!! with the best fresh fruit salad we have ever had. highly recommend.

Our room was very small, their was noise from a boiler or a air conditioning unit, which meant we were unable to have our window open at night. The Hotel was busy with meals and they ran out of certain foods, ie steak pie which we have had before their and is delicious. So we were disappointed it had run out on our first night. No white bread the next morning at break...

Wonderful stay overall, only a couple of rooms in this hotels, very clean and tidy. The room is pretty small but comfy. Lack of free parking spaces. Close to Ambleside town centre and only 10-15mins driver to Windermere. Have to try the Apple Pie Restaurant and Bakery next door.

We were pleasantly surprised by how accommodating the staff were, as we checked in later in the evening. The owner welcomed us when we arrived, and throughout our stay we always felt welcomed and engaged in conversation with the staff. Tables are laid and breakfasts are prepared each morning. The owners also have a Labrador named Jake who is extremely friendly and well...

The inn is set in very picturesque location with views all round. On the whole a nice place to stay. Although two small gripes...all main courses on the evening menu where around £13.95 + . This wasn't justified on some dishes i.e.Cumberland Sausage. The WIFI reception in the room was none existent and very hit or miss in residents lounge. This can easily be fixed with...

Lovely property ,and lovely Beth ........very charming boutique chic B n b ,did feel however having been here before that having breakfast over the road at the sports bar which now belongs to owners of this property lost some of the homely charm of having it on the premises like on my last visit here! The grounds are beautiful and there is private access to grasmere l...
