Staying at Highland Park House was peaceful and such a pleasure. We were well looked after in every way possible. Breakfast was lovely--made exactly to order--and the room was comfortable and spotlessly clean. The hosts were friendly, accommodating, and so helpful in terms of local information, how to get around, etc. Could not have been better.
The hostel is clean. Staff are very helpful. However, the place is a bit difficult to find. It just got a tiny sign show u the alley to the hostel. And, be aware of the chickens in the parking lot. They are not afraid of cars and always standing in the middle of the drive way.
The location of the Ayre is very convenient to Kirkwall's downtown. But the hotel really needs a bit of an update. The sinks have two faucets, hearkening back to the 1950's. The TV in the room is very small. Nothing bad, but nothing really good either.
