"I just want to say that the staff are all very helpful and friendly, from reception to housekeeping to restaurant service staff; giving special mention to Shawn at the reception, for his enthusiasm in his job. I have had a very pleasant stay of 3 nights. Hotel is a stone throw to Nottingham Castle and the main shopping area. There are a few nice eateries/pubs to hang out in a lane next to the hotel (St James Street). University of Nottingham is easily accessible by a 15-min bus ride from bus stops nearby. Coach and train stations is only 5 minutes away by taxi, from the hotel. Will definitely recommend anyone coming to Nottingham to this charming hotel. "

"I booked the DeVere Orchard Hotel for the autumn University of Nottingham Open Days, unfortunately for the wrong weekend. When I tried to amend the booking on Agoda’s website, it wouldn’t let me, so I rang the hotel who tried to help. However, because the booking was through Agoda, the change would have to be done through them. I rang Agoda and although promised the booking would be changed to the correct date, 2 days later a message was left on my phone that the hotel was fully booked and no change was possible. £260 for two rooms that the hotel wanted to help change, but 2 days with Agoda trying and the date couldn’t be changed. Hotel looks fab, and I understand is fab. Agoda, really? Love the site, but buyer beware if you have a problem. FYI, we had to stay at the Marriott in Leicester. I booked directly with the hotel. Sorry Agoda!"

"Good clean hotel in the heart of the city night life at great value for money. Would advise better understanding of parking arrangements though. It does say parking but as we found out its in the Lace Market Car Park around the corner we know Nottingham well and know the one way system but out of towners would struggle. But overall very good "

"We stayed at the Gateway on a Saturday night. We'd had a cheap rate and were impressed to get a huge room, with a double bed, a leather sofa and a coffee table. We wondered if we'd been upgraded. The night was all right, apart from the noise, but I guess it's more because of the guests than the hotel itself. The breakfast was huge, with as much as you like of everything that makes a good English breakfast! "

Discovering Nottingham: Fun Facts and Reasons to Visit

Located in the heart of England, Nottingham is a vibrant city that offers a unique blend of history, culture, and entertainment. Known as the "Queen of the Midlands," Nottingham is famous for its legendary outlaw Robin Hood, who is said to have lived in Sherwood Forest, just a few miles outside the city. But there's more to Nottingham than just Robin Hood. The city is home to stunning architecture, world-class museums, and a thriving arts and music scene. One of the most interesting facts about Nottingham is that it was once a major center for lace-making and textile production. In the 19th century, Nottingham was the lace capital of the world, and its lace was used to make dresses for Queen Victoria and her court. Today, you can still see evidence of this rich heritage in the Lace Market district, which is home to some of the city's most beautiful Victorian buildings. Another reason to visit Nottingham is its rich literary history. The city has been home to many famous writers, including D.H. Lawrence, Lord Byron, and Alan Sillitoe, who set his novel "Saturday Night and Sunday Morning" in the city. You can learn more about Nottingham's literary heritage at the D.H. Lawrence Birthplace Museum or take a literary walking tour of the city.
