"We had a wonderful Easter weekend in New Caledonia despite the less than favourable weather. It was a deluge of water essentially, but we made the most of it. Had a nice trip to Amatee Lighthouse Island and took the "Choo Choo Train" around the city. Had a sensational meal at the "Le Roof" restaurant overlooking the water - which coincidentally is directly across the road from the Nouvata Hotel. The location is Perfect, Perfect, Perfect. The beach walk from Anse Vata to Baie des Citrons and in to town is beautiful. You have a great view of the 2 other islands - Iles des Canard and Iles des Maitres. We will definitely come back for another visit. We planned on scuba diving, however the weather did not permit. The Nouvata Hotel itself if very nice. It would have been the primo hotel back in the day. Our room was a little dated, but the view was spectacular. All it needs is a little refurb, particularly in the room flooring. Overall, the hotel was good and we'd stay there again. "

"Firstly, we were pleasantly surprised to be given a room with such a lovely sea view, which was unexpected when arriving late at night. The hotel is so well situated and very comfortable, with a beautiful pool area. Also, the staff at Le Meridien Noumea are exceptional - a special thanks to Damien, Brendan and the girls on reception for making our stay so memorable. They were very friendly, welcoming and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and they provided us all the information we needed, to see and do everything to suit. They helped make the stay for my elderly mother and adult daughter, very special. L'Hippocampe Restaurant was exquisite and a very nice treat for my daughter and I, to share together. Our stay was everything we hoped for plus a lot more. We look forward to returning to Le Meridien Noumea and exploring a bit more of the area sometime soon. Thank you, from Tanya Nicks (New Zealand), Pam Nicks and Raquel Donald (Australia)."

"The New Caledonia experience was a mixed bag. I think you have to appreciate the social structure and the present political situation to appreciate where New Caledonia is at. It appears that the indigenous people have voted against independence at the moment so all is on hold including capital works on a lovely hotel like the Hilton which has the best position in Noumea. We travelled east on two occasions but found that the east coast is a difficult drive and disappointing on arrival in that the scenery is inspiring and pristine but there are no tourist facilities even for a sandwich for lunch."

"My husband and I stayed Hotel Le Paris just one night a night before heading off to Ile des Pins. We arrived after midnight because of our international flight from Tokyo, and we had to leave 7am following day to take a domestic flight from Magenta airport. It was about 45 mins by car from La Tontouta airport around 11:30pm (we had arranged a private transport) and was only 10-15 mins away from Magenta airport by taxi around 7am. For our purpose their location was perfect. Also although our stay was so brief, we were impressed by the room. It was clean, spacious with nice modern bathroom. The bed was very comfortable too. The room was equipped with Nespresso type of coffee machine which was bonus. Great value for money in Noumea. I highly recommend this hotel."

"For a hotel in the most expensive city I have ever stayed in this was good value. The rooms are very well laid out and comfortable with great facilities. The pool overlooks the beach and has a great ambience about it. Staff were extremely attentitave and even when one staff member stuffed up a tour booking another quickly solved the issue for me without delay. Noumea generally is a very expensive place to go and stay in relation to eating out and doing tours and facilities that you paid for - eg Spa - were expensive. Maybe the fact that my wife and I go to Bali each year has sploit us for value but when you eat out never get change out of $80 plus drinks for 1 course! But if going to Noumea would definitely recommend this hotel. "

"Very good place to stay with family. The staff was friendly and very helpful. Our two bedroom apartment had a nice size balcony with great view to the ocean, pool and the city. If you travel on a budget, cooking your own meals will help because the food is expensive AUD $40 for breakfast and AUD$70 for a meal. There is a supermarket walking distance, a pharmacy, the clothes shops and ATM from. Noumea is not a great deal...you must visit one of the islands like Ile des Pin if you are in New Caledonia and snorkel in Amadee."

"We had a pleasant stay at Casa del Sole, however there were many disappointing aspects, mainly relating to a lack of facilities. Do not expect modern conveniences such as hand towels, face washers, water glasses or to have someone empty your bin. The styling of the apartment would be considered 'minimalist' at best. The entire hotel is in desperate need of refurbishment. Having said that, the apartment was of a decent size, was comfortable enough but had an amazing view. The location was great. Close to restaurants, beaches and bars. The staff (what we saw of them) were friendly."
