Traveling to New Zealand? Find Picton hotels

Purchased the standard double: Their most basic accomodation. Room was large and modern with a king bed. I was Fortunate to have one if the few standards that have harbour views. Most standards face the road. I usually purchase a superior room, which has a balcony and faces the harbour/pool. However, there were no discounts on these rooms this time and I was only there for one night so chose the cheaper standard room. I have had a few issues with this hotel, in that, when I have paid extra for a superior (ie pool or harbour views) I have been directed to a lower priced double. This has happened on a number of occasions, and I have been forced to argue my case to get what I paid extra for. Frustrating! If it was not for the fact that this is arguably the nicest hotel in Picton (taking into account price, location, facilities, cleanliness, and modern furnishings), I would have taken my business elsewhere... I now just make sure that I specify exactly what I want in booking remarks. The staff can be hit and miss (excellent on this occasion) and I have not tried the restaurant (dinner or breakfast) as there are many restaurants, and some standout take away places in town. Wifi was very good!

staying at the okiwa bay lodge was a highlight of our 3-week trip to new zealand and australia. watching the sun rise over queen charlotte sound from our room was unforgettable. susie and martin were perfect hosts and we enjoyed all the time we spent relaxing on their deck, eating excellent meals they prepared, and driving with them up and down the windy road from picton to their lodge. since we did not have a car, they not only picked us up from the ferry terminal, but also took us back to picton the next day so we could do a wine tour and to the airport at blenheim on our final day. the obl is about a 40 minute drive from picton, and a little isolated, but it worked perfectly for us. we definitely plan to come back!

We were in Picton for just a short period to catch the ferry the next day to Wellington. We chose this hotel because of its location, but also wanted a clean modern room with great views, and sure enough, we got what we wanted. The rooms were clean, lots of cooking supplies and the views on the balcony was great. The staff/owner also dropped us off at the Ferry terminal the next morning. The hotel is walking distance to town and hiking trail, although Picton is a very small town. High water pressure. Good value for money. CONS: Parking is tight with limited space. There are 2 buildings. Some rooms have better views that others. Free wifi but kept getting disconnected.

Excellent stay (2 nights), money-wise is certainly a very good deal. The atmosphere is absolutely pleasant, the owners are very nice guys who know how to treat their guests. Very kind and helpful in recommending activities. Free wifi and breakfast (not really common in NZ's hostels) and free bike rental. In addition, free pickup at Picton ferry terminal. Just 10 min walking to the town centre or just 2-3 min biking. Highly recommended

Beachcomber Inn is located on the waterfront at Picton with excellent views over the Sound and surrounding hills. Our room was large and comfortable with a fresh, clean and generous bathroom. Everything you could want for a stay of one night, one week or longer. Did not try the restaurant for dinner as it was booked out. Only negative from our view was breakfast only served in rooms. Also, lift not operating during our stay so some effort in getting bags to third floor. However, offer of carrying by staff was made if prepared to wait. Not a bargain tariff for our two nights but probably in keeping with others nearby.

The Gables is very centrally located, close to the waters and the main shopping district, with comfortable and homey space (we stayed at the cottages). The host, Warren is fantastic, helpful and very kind. They have also just started a wonderful hop on hop off bus tour among the marlborough vineyards which is the best way to visit the NZ wineries. Finally, they surprised us with their amazingly yummy muffins that are "out of this world" for breakfast. Best place to stay in Picton!`

We found Sequoia Lodge to be a welcoming overnight stopover on an early spring road trip through the northern part of New Zealand’s South Island. The complementary 7.00pm soup and 8.00pm chocolate sauce pudding and ice cream were warm and welcoming on a cool Picton evening. Kitchen facilities were adequate and bed (small ensuite double room) OK. Would be more than happy to stay again! Andrew

We chose this motel on the recommendation of friends. They were right. It was very good indeed. The motel is on the main street in the middle of the shopping centre. We booked a Deluxe Studio which was on the ground floor at the rear of the property. It was slightly more expensive than other rooms but worth it. Our room was very good – large and bright, white bedlinen and white doona, small kitchenette. There was no air-conditioning or fan but this seems to be usual in New Zealand. The bathroom was new and spotless. Good toiletries. The room looked out onto a lawn and a barbecue area, both of which were used by other guests during our stay. They were not intrusive. The reception staff were excellent and we felt very welcome. They agreed to mind luggage for us for a few days while we were walking. They assisted with advice about restaurants and best coffee shops and provided discount coupons for local eating places. They offered to drive us and our luggage to the Ferry Terminal. Recommended.

Janet collected us from the ferry and showed us to our rooms which were lovely and super comfy. Home made cake and shortbread awaited us with tea/coffee making facilities. Lots of info given about where to go, activities and best places to eat in Picton which was handy. Invited up stairs for a glass of beautiful local wine before we headed off for tea. Everything is in walking distance and the views are so pretty. Quiet overnight and woke to a scrumptious breakfast, absolutely the best in our two week stay by far. Pity I only booked for one night but there is always next time.

From arrival to departure they pampered and spoiled us! Upon arrival they were waiting for us, immediately grabbed our luggage and took us to our room where there was a dessert tray and wine waiting for us. The rooms are perfect and you feel very decadent in them. We ate at the restaurant twice - both times amazing! And Julianna, the owner/chef, is a treat to talk to and has great advice for the rest of your trip in New Zealand. We were treated to a wonderful breakfast of pastries before our departure. I strongly urge you to stay here if you are looking at Picton!

We arrived to be met by the friendly and helpful owner. Our family room was clean and well kitted with what we needed for our 1 night stay. The shared bathroom facilities was right across our bedroom door and there were ample facilities that even at full occupancy there was no waiting period to use the clean facilities. We were treated to a nice surprise with a hearty soup and bread at night which seems to be a usual. The included breakfast was a good start to the day with a special warm porridge, freshly brewed coffee, juice and even gluten free and dairy free options to compliment the freshly baked muffins and other cereals. Should we visit Picton in future, we will gladly stay there again.

I check-in at the last minute due to full booking of the booked hotel earlier, and I knew it just upon arrival to the town. I was quite worried as it was not yet a real confirmed booking when I checked-in, I just tried my luck, yet I received a warm welcome from the host. The room was classic, clean and nicely decorated. I had a great night sleep. And in the morning the host Margaret cooked us a superb breakfast according to our preferred time, and introduced us the lovely garden which was amaZing. I loved the stay there, a sweet and warm one :)

To total strangers to Picton , " Apartments on the Waterfront " infers that the apartments are at the Waterfront which is in the centre of Picton and therefore would be close to all the amenities / restaurants which are associated with a " waterfront " . This is not the case , the apartments are about 4 kms. out of the centre and are situated close to a boating club/marina .. Although the apartments are close to the marina they do not have a good view at all .!!!

Me and my hubby love new zealand, the view and the people both are great. But, Picton Campervan is the best people we met so far. The ldy owner greet us almost everyday and give some valuable tips to travel south island based on Her experince, which high way to take, which cafe/resto to dine in, where to stop for the best view, what activity worth the money, etc, etc... Oh yeah, she even give us some yummy cherry that she just bought during our morning breakfast... Im so impressed

The Moorings is a lovely self-contained apartment in which to stay when visiting Picton. It's central to everything for the Picton visitor and so close to the Marina and Bridge. It was comfortable and has plenty of room with living upstairs and a great balcony to sit out on and watch Picton unfold each day. Great access for bags, close to car space and close to commercial area for meals and wanderings in a lovely town. Recommend 4 - 5 nights as a minimum at Picton and radiate out from there. A beautiful area and the Moorings was a great place to stay. Only criticism were the electronics, nothing matched the written instructions for their use and we were unable to find any radio for some music.

Cabins are very clean and the facilities were really nice! Everything was well kept and looked like fairly new. We had a technical problem with the tv which the person in the reception informed us immediately. He then gave us extra free wifi to keep us entertained thru our stay to compensate for the tv. I would definately stay here again and would recommend it to friends

The owners are hardworking conscientious people and make sure that the accommodation is spotless and in the best condition possible. That being said the building is approaching 100 years old and in need of some serious upgrades.The floor joists in the ceiling above me creaked all night due to any movement of the hotel guest above me. Similarly the walls between room have zero acoustic insulation in them, allowing snoring and conversations of neighboring guests to enter my room. For these reasons the price was a little high!
