"Refurbishment is ongoing at this hotel. I suppose it’s quite a task as it looks to have been quite run down until recently. We chose it for the hot springs which are uniquely NZ, this one is metallic and good for lounging in! I do not want to be overly critical, but not everybody would choose to stay here. The good points : clean beds, clean towels, hot powerful shower and quiet. A cheery girl welcomed us. Points for improvement : the toilet seat had not been properly cleaned, the room carpet had not been vacuumed; the worn window woodwork will be painted eventually probably. The exterior had recently been given a coat of paint. Re the water supply, it was turned off for 2.5 hrs while the owner did a bit of DIY plumbing. However, water back on tap at 5pm so all ok there. There is no restaurant or bar, the manager told us the we would have to drive 10mins to Tokumaru Bay which we did and had a good dinner at the pub there. We would say it was ok for the NZ$120."
