"Small things matter. Arriving on a day where clearly staff smiling had been banned and an apparent weariness of yet more visitors did not bode well A single shower gel and a single shampoo between 2 people per day when you are paying a substantial figure felt ridiculous. Was it inconceivable that people might shower in the evening and the morning?. After 5 attempts over 3 days to arrange for increased supplies we were still given the daily allowance. The annoyance became irritating. A bizarre and inexplicable marketing theme of Yorkshire meets France pervaded the restaurant where a mundane but expensive menu failed to interest. Cartoons of frogs dancing on sticks of rhubarb, berets and flat caps, and an enforced humour may appeal to some but not for us. Enquiries as to the rationale behind the idea brought no enlightenment Probably just a mis-match of hotel choice and guest; others may find it all charming."

"The pros are mostly everything. A huge whale on the wall and a dolphin in the bathroom. Instantly made me feel at sea. It was very clean and modern plus has good privacy for a couple. The location and nearby pubs were brilliant. Good security for getting in. The cons were not enough sugar or milk for 2 days and no change of towels and sheets. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Whitby! Would definitely stay again as good value for money too!"

"It was the best YHA I've ever stayed. It was so nice and lovely that I regretted to stay only for 1 night. The building itself has a long history that gives us a unique experience to stay. The location was perfect. It located just next to the Whitby Abbey and St Mary's Church. The hostel is group and family friendly. This YHA doesn't offer a typical self-catering kitchen but also a cafe which reliefs us from the hassle to cook. The only problem will be parking space. The YHA Whitby has limited car parking space and the nearest council car parking will be about 5-10 minutes walk from the accommodation. The council car parking has plenty of space and is free during winter. But it is so dark that you will require bringing a torch to walk to and fro the YHA Whitby. Overall, we are satisfied with our stay with YHA Whitby and will come back for sure."
