My new fav in Chicago ”
The front desk was friendly and very accommodating! I felt taken care of as a solo traveler. The hotel is clean and charming with a lot of history. Some say it’s haunted 👻. Get the water facing rooms! Worth the extra few $. I suggest checking-in at odd times to avoid a line/waiting. Great location! Walking distance from the water and food spots., though the lobby has great atmosphere and a restaurant. Great place to stay if you want to explore but don’t want to go far from the hotel. Lot’s to do and see nearby (ie: Navy Pier, Shedd’s Aquarium, Chicago institute of Art, Buckingham Fountain, Millennium Park) and close connection to the loop transit trains that take you anywhere in Chicago. I’ll be staying here from now on!

Perfect location!”
While we did not have a lake view room, the location was absolutely perfect! Granted, we are a couple that do alot of walking, daily, so we walked everywhere and averaged between 30,000 and 35,000 steps daily during our stay. Buckingham Fountain is directly across from the Congress. If you get a Lake view room (like our friends had), you can see it from your window! Absolutely breathtaking! The bean is just a short walk to the North, along Michigan Avenue. There are so many shops located nearby and a Walgreens or CVS on almost every corner if you want to grab Bottled water, soda, or even booze for your room. I do wish the rooms had microwaves in them, but atleast there was a (very small) mini fridge. We usually always travel with a cooler (road trip) so we had plenty of cold storage for all of the delicious left overs from the many restaurants we ate at. The bar in the Congress has a pool table and a touch tunes juke box so you can play music right from your phone! 100% Reccomend.

Father and daughter”
It was a great stay, I got room with a great view, very clean. My daughter and I had a great time. I definitely reccomend this place for all travelers. One note is that the room temp is controlled by the staff and you only have a fan. But once I told the front office they had no problem bringing me a space heater. Great customer service!

Exceptional”
This hotel was perfect got what we needed. 3 of us stayed in one room for one night. The room was very clean and put together. Hotel was directly across from Grant Park. Perfect location. Couldn’t believe what the hotel looked like for what we paid! Looked like a super expensive place. Definitely would recommend. Staff was friendly and helped with anything you need! Only con is the shower pressure was not great but was good enough.

Room was very clean and cleaning staff was working tirelessly to get all of the rooms ready”
So close to lollapalooza and the cleaning crew worked so hard to get the huge amount of guests rooms ready in time and were very nice about it. The staff was very helpful and it was extremely safe with them checking the room keys before we came in and having policemen there to help people. I will definitely stay here next year for lollapalooza!

Love the character in this old hotel!”
I love the character in this old hotel! The high ceilings, interesting architectural features, etc. make it feel like you were living in the era. absolutely love the tile mosaics in some of the main area. It is also close to everything downtown and makes walking to restaurants and other tourist destinations pretty easy. The only issue we had was at check-in. I'm so glad I always carry hard-copies of all my reservation information, as they did not have us on the confirmed list! The desk manager did the research and was able to get things worked out so that we had the 2 LakeView rooms we had pre-paid. I will be back!

Exceptional”
Cons is not alot of television selection when u just want to relax before the next adventure. There is a fridge but no microwave. You are close to everything. We walked our whole trip except to the museum of science and industry museum. Parking was convient at the hotel and was reasonable. We had unlimited in and outs if we wanted to leave and come back. Room was clean beds are firm. Best price for the location!!

Wonderful old-world experience”
Great location on Michigan Ave/Grant Park next to Auditorium. Great panoramic view of Lake Michigan: Navy Pier, Buckingham Fountain, Museum Campus. Built in late 1800's. Beautiful antique-looking furniture, bathroom last updated in the 80's but big and clean. Negatives: No spa. Double rooms only have 1 king or 2 double beds, queens would be better. The room's coffee was horrid. Room service carafe at $11.00 was ok. Very friendly staff. We were given a private tour of the luxurious ballrooms that hosted 20 US presidential speeches/conventions, including Nixon's nomination. Al Capone stayed in Room 700. BEWARE: Hotel parking garage next door: Hotel quoted $45 per night. We parked about 5 pm Friday and picked up about 5 pm Sunday. Were charged extra for pick-up after 2 pm. We were not informed of this policy when parking, at check-in, check out or @ ticket validation. No prices posted anywhere! BAD!

Outstanding location, beautiful lakeside views. ”
Rooms are older and on the small side, but clean and comfortable and with a sense of history that comes with that kind of building. The common areas are beautiful. Super convenient location and right across the street from Grant Park, which is lovely.

Great place to stay ”
Loved the view from our lakeside view room. Could watch the fireworks from our window at night. We were a little south of most of the places we wanted to go but we were able to walk to them all. Only about a mile or so away. There is a train stop about two streets over that would take you anywhere you need to go. There are a LOT of restaurants a street or two over to the west. And also shopping as well. The room was very clean. The bed and pillows were comfortable. They supplied us with a nice amount of toiletries, including a toothbrush and some really nice lotion. The staff was very nice and helpful.

Perfect location, friendly staff”
The location couldn’t be better! We walked to almost everything, including Shedd Aquarium, Willis Tower, Grant Park, Millennium Park, Navy Pier, etc. The building is really cool- my kids were so intrigued by the tall doorways and ceilings. Staff was super nice, especially the bellhops. Overall it was a great experience and I would definitely stay here again!

Here for Cirque”
Highly recommend. Check in was easy and I could use my debit card ($25/day deposit). The room was gorgeous and close to many things in Chicago. The price is daunting but the facilities are exactly what you would need for a short term stay. The bar/restaurant in the hotel is not great but the options in the city within walking distance are plentiful.

Historic and fancy”
I'm not picky about hotels on a trip, but when travelling alone or in general, I do like the convenience of public transport and a safe neighborhood. Congress Plaza is perfectly located in the heart of downtown within walking distance of all main CTA train lines. The security of the hotel is great and you can relax here without any worries. As for the room and facilities, I love the historic feel of the hotel. Yes, it's old, so there are some challenges. Paint is old, and room doesn't exactly have brand new appliances and decorations. But that just fuels the vintage feel of living here. The lake view is phenomenal and the room looks beautiful. Staff is more than accommodating of all requests. I loved that the room is high ceiling as well, since a lot of the hotel rooms feel claustrophobic and dark. All in all, it was one of best and most convenient stays I have experienced.

Hotel has Character”
Special thanks to Nicole, Hotel Representative, she was wonderful. We had a City view room, wonderful Sunrise over Lake Michigan each morning. I love how the Hotel has some of the same old décor, gives the hotel character. Will stay there on our next trip to Chicago.

The Congress Plaza Hotel Welcomes With Open Arms ”
Everything about the Congress Plaza Hotel in Chicago is at the same time opening, excellent, and lay back. Check in and check out are as easy as opening a refrigerator. Staff is always "at your service" but never "in your face." Staying here is like staying with family.

Great price”
Great price, great location, but my only complaint is the air unit! The air conditioner was horrible! Kept it on high and the door shut and it was blazing hot. And couldn’t keep the windows open because it was hot. Sweated all night and couldn’t sleep!

Our kids loved it. It has spooky history and has some cool features. Awesome location by the train, bus, and walking distance to parks and the river. Amazing price for what you get and the location.
