Vynikající”
This place is gorgeous! I didn’t really know what to expect but the room I got was a garden view ‘ryokan’ style room - which I think is how most of the place operates. This room was very high tech considering I’m in a temple of monks >< The shower head was built into the ceiling and fell on you like rain, and the sink glowed just for that added quirk. The monks were very helpful and attentive. It’s right by the huge okunoin cemetery. I did the night tour of the cemetery - it’s tricky to really appreciate the beauty of this place at night (I returned in the day time) but if you’re interested in the history and lore this was the tours greatest appeal. It’s an early start to watch the monks pray and conduct the fire ceremony but well worth it if you’re an early bird, it can get loud though just in case you’ve sensitive hearing. The rest of the mountain was beautiful - it’s actually really modern feeling and some of the surrounding temples are beautiful.

This place was spectacular! Delicious food, stunning and peaceful property. Truly special”
We traveled all day to get to this little gem, and were so happy that we did. The town is small and quaint with the coolest cemetery I’ve ever seen. The Ekoin itself was run by very welcoming Buddhist monks, our room was modest yet spectacular and comfortable, and the property was simply gorgeous. The food was EXCELLENT, and you get a great sampling of vegetarian traditional dishes. Cannot say enough wonderful things about our stay here.

Temple stay”
Excellent temple stay experience, able to experience free meditation, scripture copying services. The food is above average and very nicely presented. It didn’t stand up to top shojin ryori but with price of stay and two meals, it was worth it. The temple is a fair way walk from other sights except okunoin. With this distance, it was definitely worth it getting koyasan world heritage ticket. I don’t feel this was need to join the night tour, it was just as easy hiring an audio guide and explore yourselves. It is worth making two visits to okunoin, one at night and one during the day. It is a magical feeling at night and during the day to closely examine the headstones and visit hall of lanterns etc.

Fantastic little gem”
Loved everything about my 2 night stay here. I wasn’t in a rush so decided to stay for 2 nights. The breakfast and dinner was so delicious. It snowed when I was there and it was beautiful! The monks here speak good English, no issues with communicating. The futon was soft and comfortable - didn’t feel like I was sleeping on the floor. Highly recommended and would love to return.

Easy stay”
Itz like a hotel stay with twist, beds made up by monks and food served by monks. Communication was easy, room heated and big (we had 2 connecting rooms due to 5 pax), bathroom nearby (lucky), shower place clean. Picked up some useful tips on inner peace from meditation session and Okuion cemetery tour (additional charges).

Magical moment”
A friend told us to go to ekoin while we are in Japan. I am really not disappointed about our trip to koya San. We were very warm welcomed by the monks and the place is just magical. Luckily we were there in summer so there was not many tourists. The afternoon meditation, the morning service and the fire ceremony were a highlight with full respect for Buddhism and absolutely not a tourist show. Thanks for all

Open Hearts”
The visit to Ekoin was one of the highlights of our entire trip to Japan. The monastery and its rooms are delightful. The monks create a very meaningful experience to help you understand Shingon Buddhism. We only stayed one night but if I could do it again, I would stay 2 or 3 nights to be able to hike and explore the temples...and to simply sit quietly in one of the sitting areas.

Great temple stay experience”
Eko-in Temple is probably one of the most popular temple stays in the Koyasan area and it is for good reason. Everything seems to be organised and run efficiently and the morning ceremony and meditation lessons are outstanding experiences, whether it is your first time or not.

An unforgettable stay”
It wasa truly special experience staying at this temple. Our room was very spaceous and the bedding so comfortable, we had a deep sleep. The best thing were all the additional experiences - afternoon meditation, morning prayer, fire ritual and the night cemetary walk (small extra fee but totally worth it). Shared bathrooms and toilets, but I didn’t mind as they were never crowded. The only thing you have to be mindful of is that everything is at a specific time and if you’re late, you miss out. For example dinner is at 5:30pm.

An amazing experience worth every cent. ”
I almost let the cost and the bathroom arrangements put me off, but I am so glad I didn’t. It was the experience of a lifetime. And you could easily pay that much for the incredible dinner alone in Japan.

Wonderful tranquil stay”
We loved our one night stay at Ekoin! We had the shared bathroom option which was no problem at all and we found the shared onsen style bathroom rarely used. Our room had the most beautiful view onto the gardens and the food served to the rooms was delicious. I'd recommend both the afternoon meditation session as well as the cemetery night walk. Both were led by Nori who was great. Highly recommend Ekoin, even though it is a little pricier!

Great experience”
If you’re thinking about it, just do it! And be sure to book the night cemetery tour too- it was freezing (literally snowing) but so worth it!

Loverly accomodation”
We had a wonderful time staying here. The monks were extremely welcoming and the food was fanstastic. It was ver special and educational to be involved in morning prayer and the fire ceremony and we got a lot out of the meditation session. The highlight was the cemetery tour - don't forget to book this in advance. You need to be aware there are no private washing facilities and if you are given a room next to a noise family there is little soundproofing.

Comprehensive”
Charming place to experience and take in Koyasan. The staff was charming as well and very friendly to interact with. Given the traditional nature of the room, we could hear our neighbour snoring, but the cool December weather had us falling asleep pretty fast. Location in also unquestionably convenient to most of what Koyasan has to offer.

A MUST-DO if visiting Japan”
Our stay at the temple was the highlight of our Japan holiday. The friendliness of the monks, the lovely room, delicious meals and the experiences offered are worth the time and effort to travel there. The cemetery tour was very special and we loved the onsens!

Short and Sweet”
Because of the cost we only stayed one night. It was an experience that we’ll remember for a long time. We highly recommend the night time cemetery tour. There is so much to see and it’s a lovely chilled-out town; we would have liked to stay longer and would recommend 1 night in a temple then a couple of nights elsewhere.

Memorable experience”
I stayed one night at a very affordable price thanks to GoToTravel campaign. Due to corona, there are no foreign tourists in Japan yet, so everything was almost empty and very peaceful. Despite being in the middle of nowhere, the structure is easily accessible by public transportation, so you don't even need to rent a car. Everyone is very nice and helpful, and the food is delicious. Make sure to take part in the meditation session (they also have English available), morning service and fire ceremony, because everything is really interesting. The only negative thing, if I can say so, is that the futon didn't smell so good, like it had been stored in the closet for a long time, without getting any air. But I guess you can't expect freshly laundered hotel bedsheets, since it's not a hotel in the first place. Other than that, the room was very nice, larger than I expected, and the structure is beautiful, recommended to anyone who wants to experience some authentic traditional Japan.

Amazing experience”
I stayed two nights at Ekoin. My room was absolutely gorgeous. Felt really comfortable and looked after. Even with - 3 degrees outside, the heater is enough to keep you warm all night. I even had to wake up to switch it off. The dinner was mouth watering and plenty. The morning service and fire ceremony are a must even if you're not buddist. Thr cemetery is something out of this world and went there three times during my stay. I had such a lovely time and will be back for sure.
