tldr: If I'm going to have some trip to Nara again, Deer Guesthouse will be my top priority.”
1) Location 6 minutes walk to the south of Kintetsu Nara Station; Just a couple more minutes of walk to the Nara Park Area, where most of your destination lies; And just a few walks to the shopping centre; the location of Deer Guesthouse is very strategic, indeed. A top priority if you want to visit Nara for your getaway. 2) Cleanliness Top Notch. I don't need to add 3) Staff (or, as I prefer to say them as Owners) The warm welcome, the recommendation for the guests to have a better sightseeing experiences and travelling in Nara, and their friendliness, is just incredible. I personally love having a lot of talks with them (and with other guests too) until late. 4) Facilities. Love the bathroom stall they installed in the house. And, whether you want to cook your own meal, or want to boil some water for your instant noodles (which they sell in the guesthouse, convenient), should you feel it is a little too late to have some late snacks, they provide it all. 5) Value for Money Priceless. Love every minutes I spend here. :)

Comfortable Stay”
If you are looking for a home away from home, I would recommend for you to stay at Deer Guesthouse. The owner is super nice. Even after I checked out, he let me leave my luggage (for FREE) so that I can still visit the Horyuji Temple. When I got back at around 3pm I was sp tired because the weather was so hot, before going out to grab his lunch, he told me that I can rest inside the guesthouse and leave once I feel refreshed/recharged. Compared to other hostels, Deer guesthouse is really hospitable. Others will not allow guests to leave their luggage after check out. Oh, and I slept comfortably here even though this is the simplest hostel I've booked in Japan. Also, the location is super okey. It is near to all the tourists spots in Nara and to train stations as well.

A home away from home”
Locating in the most convenient location (3-min walk to Kintetsu Nara Station and the main bus stop and 8-min walk to JR station), Dear Guesthouse is walking distance to major spots such as the Nara National Museum, Nara Art Museum, Koufukuji, and Toudaiji. The Guesthouse is transformed from the traditional house, so you can imagine inside it's not too spacious, but the wooden structure and open kitchen gives the guesthouse a very intimate feeling, and the exquisite Japanese garden in between the front area and the back area is a hidden gem. And the owner (and manager) Yamamoto san is perhaps the biggest reason why the guest feel so much at home. He is funny(a bit of the quirky side), easy-going, generous and helpful and he speaks good English, Chinese, Korean and Spanish (maybe in a lesser extent lol), so no worries about any sort of language barrier. Most of the guests get along pretty well, and the atmosphere is laid back and authentic. I would definitely go back there when I go to Nara again.

Excellent”
The hostel was very near Kintetsu Nara Station and the food street nearby, so that was a real plus. The staff was really friendly. Limited bathrooms, but clean. During colder season, be prepared as the walkway to the bathroom is not covered, thus chilly.

If you plan to stay in Nara Deer Guesthouse is very recommended. ”
Staying in Deer Guesthouse just like playing a game. If you're lucky you can occupy all (bunk)beds or tatami in the room by yourself (or with your own group). Or, you may not so that lucky, where you have to share with somebody else that make you feel unhappy. But I think you don't need so worried since still there's a chance you'll meet new nice friends.

Great location and owner”
The owner is one of the loveliest young men you could hope to meet and is extremely helpful. The kitchen is very well stocked also. I would like to rate this property higher but my personal experience was not a positive one. I think it was made worse because of the room I had. I stayed in the single room which of course increased the price and unfortunately I think it is the worst room in the guesthouse. It’s situated at the front of the property right beside the main lane so it’s also right at the front entrance. The noise from people checking in, chatting in the kitchen, going in and out of the front door constantly, made it impossible to sleep. You need to go out into the open air to use the shower and toilet which are in different areas. If you are looking for a firm style room with good cooking facilities and in a great location then this would probably be perfect.

Ok for the price but disappoing at first”
It was the humblest hostel in Japan I've ever stayed. When I arrived at the hostel at 3 pm, no body answered the door. After ringing the bell 3 times under boiling hot weather after walking 20 min. from Nara Station, a guest opened the door on his way out. Then the owner was not seen anywhere and after saying "hello" several times, he told me to wait. We had to wait in the boiling hot kitchen with airconditioner off for 20 minutes before we were finally shown to our room. I paid about 3000 yen for two at a 8 person female dorm and the door paper was torn. And the gas range was out of order so I could not cook my food. If you just want to sleep, it's ok for the price. Oh, on the way to the guesthouse from Nara Station, I found a small hot spring run by old couples. It cost only 420 yen/person and we went there, which reminded me of the public bath in my childhood days. I had a good time there anyway feeling Nostalgia.

Sorry for inconvenience at this time!! I do everythiong for this guesthouse(I cannot use part time job with this budget price). And I have to do a lot of things. I was cleaning shower room and toilet when you press the bell. That's why I could not give you full service this time. Please understand our situation with this price. but,I feel so sorry at this time again. I will do my best next time.See you next time(^_^)
Very good”
The staff were well versed in many languages so communication wasn't an issue. The place is a bit far from Nara station and its small but cosy.

We arrived past 10PM so we were asked to pay 300 yen bec reception was only open til 9pm, i think. It was fine tho. Thing is, i don't think there were any heaters here so i slept witg my jacket haha. I like how the guesthouse looked tho! A traditional japanese house turned guesthouse haha. Location is fine, we just walked through all temples and parks from the hostel (leg work out lol). All in all, a fine stay!!

Cheapest guesthouse in Nara with great location ”
At this price, don't expect anything fancy. But the location totally makes up for it! Friendly and helpful staff, too.

Exceptional”
Hard to get inside the property if you don't inform the staff you're arriving early because the check-in time is 3 pm. No staff will be there to open the door before that time. I got lucky a guest came out and I was able to get inside. You can leave your things at the property and come back at 3 pm. Other than that, the place is strategically located near the tourist spots and stores. The staff are also very nice.
