I was there for 1 night but would definitely go back. Staff were welcoming and the facilities good. The lockers were a good size and padlocks came supplied, and towels were freely available from reception (a nice touch). Perfect location - less than 5min walk from the station and similar distance to old town. Beds: VERY comfy. A little low and I had reservations about how 'on the floor' the bottom bunk was, but having slept really well on it, no complaints at all. The black out curtains were very good, rooms a good temp and the beds big. I would definitely recommend earplugs as noise carries from the communal area and the doors are impossible to close quietly. Showers: ok Kitchen: free tea, coffee and milk available for use. Plus essentials like oil and seasoning. Breakfast was bread (though personally prefer brown), eggs, jams/spreads, oats, cornflakes, rice crispies and cocopops. Sadly no wheatabix/similar non sweet option. One negative: no real communal area/louge for evening

This is definitely the best hostel that I have ever stay! Staff are amazing and very friendly, breakfast is simple but I can feel lots of love in it as the staff prepared it every morning. The place is tidy which I really appreciate it, the hostel is located in New Town and it took around 5 mins walk to Scott Monument so it is very convenient to go almost every main attractions in Edinburgh. Just want to thank all of the staff that gave me a wonderful trip in Edinburgh, I would like to stay in here again!

Very nice boutique hotel great price! Front office tall & lean young man was doing a great job & extra mile service to share with us how to walk around Edinburgh town with a small little useful map, which I used throughout my walking in the town. Because of his great advise to the Carlton Hill, we witness superb sunset of Edinburgh unexpectedly, just at the right time! Wonderful experience! And the complimentary baskets is fantastic! Very touch by the small little things :) Room & bathroom look very new, i believe was newly renovated. Great Great Great!

I would definitely consider this on a return trip to Edinburgh. Lovely location for seeing comedy during the Festival as these had a cluster around St Andrew's square. Easy to pop back inside to wait out a rain shower or drop off shopping. So much to see and do in New Town. Easy walking access to the Royal Mile and Old Town sights. Don't forget to wake up early one day to walk up Arthur's Seat for some exercise and great views of the city. You can then stop in to see Holyrood Palace on your way back. The hotel itself is advertised. Clean, friendly & efficient staff, modernist interior. Breakfast was nice. Good to have the bar downstairs & good food service available 24/7.

This is a real hidden gem in a quiet part of the magnificent 18th century Georgian New Town of Edinburgh. Lovely spacious room with beautiful, antique furniture & tasteful, classy decor - luxurious, comfortable bed. Double window view over private park to which we would have had access had we not been so busy exploring this world class city. Conveniently located for a wide selection of New Town restaurants. Staff were welcoming, polite, friendly and very helpful - looked after our luggage for us as we were getting a late train back to Yorkshire. Generous portions of coffee, tea, sugar, milk & biscuits in the room. Lovely bathroom. Superb breakfast. All in all - just perfect!

We extended our stay after realizing that the hotel is also very convenient for us from a business trip perspective. There are multiple places with good electric outlets for all our devices and they are conveniently located within the room. There is also an iron and ironing board handy, as well as a strong hair dryer. It is worth noting that it is an apartment hotel, so you will only get the room cleaned or refreshed every 3 days unlike - and we had to ask for more toiletries (ie shampoo/shower gel). The coffee shop downstairs have a great pastries and coffee but rate will not have breakfast. Neither is an issue for us. Location wise, it's in new town and edge of old town so it was so easy to walk around town. Not that we go to Edinburgh often but I will definitely return to Eden Locke if I come back to Edinburgh again - hopefully during Fringe Festival.

A great set of apartments in a nice location. It's a bit of a walk from town, but nice to be away from the continuous bagpipe music in the more touristy bits. Catherine did her utmost to ensure we had a nice stay. It was great to have access to a kitchen, which meant we could make breakfast and dinner if needed, which cuts costs a fair bit on holiday. The showers were great, and the beds huge. There was a bit of a dip in the middle as i think it's two singles attached in the middle, but they were very comfy. Overall i would definitely recommend! Just a short 10min walk from the airport express bus 100 stop. It's located in the new town area of Edinburgh, and the room is well furnished with clean sheets, comfortable beds, and clean shower rooms. I've only stayed there one night before my flight to do some last minute laundry and packing. The only suggestion I have for the establishment is perhaps for them to have a more prominent signage as I initially had trouble locating the location even with my phone's map app.

The staff were exceptionally helpful; we had arrived early that morning, and they were extremely accommodating in holding our luggage, getting the room ready ahead of time, and making us comfortable in the interim. The room itself was very comfortable; I found the decor and lighting fixtures unconventional, but not unpleasantly so. Additionally, they offered complimentary wifi for guests, which had been unheard of in our travels in the UK up to that point (and this was 5 hotels into our trip). I can provide only two slight negatives. The first is not actually the hotel's fault; the street in front of the hotel is currently undergoing major construction and is therefore closed...so getting to the hotel involves a bit of a walk from the nearest taxi drop point (which is around the corner, around half a block or so). This is not a slight against them; however, if you're in a wheelchair, it could represent a problem. Which brings me to the second (related) item: the rooms are accessible solely via staircase, which could prove prohibitive to those with physical handicaps. Overall, we had a great experience here, and I would strongly recommend this hotel.

I stayed at No.11 Brunswick on 2 separate occasions bookending a tour to the Highlands in the middle, and I adore this boutique hotel! The story behind this house gives it such character, which I found charming and apt considering Edinburgh and Scotland is full of stories both real and in folklore. The hotel is on the New Town side, on a quiet street about 15 mins walk to Waverly station. A lovely change from the standard lodges or hotels in the city. I stayed in a single room (room 4) in the first part, and really liked the space of the single room; quite different to other single rooms of standard hotels I have stayed at previously. The bathroom has no door but who needs one in a single room :) There is plenty of light coming into the room with its floor to ceiling windows which I appreciated, and the furnishings are classical and contributes to the hotel's character. I found the room cosy and warm, again quite different to other draughty hotel rooms in the UK and one thing I was grateful for as I am from the tropics. I returned to No.11 after visiting the Highlands to a double room (room 10) on the top floor and that was my favourite and it really felt like I was coming home. The high windows, luscious bed, muted grey tones of this room was so welcoming I ended up NOT going out that evening but instead stayed in, borrowed a DVD from the hotel's lounge and almost didn't want to check out the next day! Last thing that I was very impressed with is the impeccable service by Richard and Mindi at the front desk who took the trouble to remember my name, greet me with lovely smiles and made me feel at home. Monika at the restaurant was also lovely during breakfast, making sure I had enough tobasco sauce for my Scottish fry up. I'm so glad I found a bit of Edinburgh I can consider home - No.11, see you soon, I shall be back!

The Ballantrae hotel is situated in the New Town, no more than 5 minutes walk from Princes Street and Waverly Station. We explored Edinburgh for two days not once having to take a taxi or public transport since the hotel is in such a central position. The room was clean and cosy and the bathroom had obviously been refurnished recently. The value for money is unbeatable and the staff is friendly and very helpful. Didn't have breakfast at the hotel since there are some great breakfast places nearby. A mini bar or vending machine to get something to drink or a snack would have been excellent, but Tesco Express/Sainsbury's are close by so that wasn't a problem.

I went to the Albany Ballantrae Hotel and stayed for two nights. The hotel is situated on a lovely quiet road behind York Place (easy access to trams to airport). The hotel was immaculately decorated with a Scottish charm to it. Furthermore the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly making my stay even more comfortable. They can store your luggage for you free of charge which is perfect when checking in or out allowing you to explore Edinburgh. I did not have breakfast at the hotel but it’s close proximity to the new town and other local cafes was brilliant. My only reservation was that I was in the furthest building from the WiFi hub so it didn’t work. Try to request a room in the main building but other than that for the price I paid as a solo traveller (£70 for 2 nights) I was impressed. I would definitely recommend this hotel for the furnishing in the room, the interior, the character feel, the staff and the hotel is stunning and made my stay very comfortable and enjoyable.

Good points: • location - couldn’t be any better. 2 mins walk from train station. As central as could be and only short walk to George Street, Royal Mile and Grassmarket. • staff - couldn’t fault them. Very helpful, polite and attentive. • room - I booked a double but ended up with a junior suite. Not sure if that’s normal, however it was spot on. Huge room on 5th floor with plenty space. Bad points • dated hotel - could do with a money spent on it. Very old and tired. • Noise - incredibly noisy where we were. Not so much during the night, but first thing in the morning. Sounded like 100’s of empty beer bottles being collected and poured into bins constantly. Very annoying and very loud! • Breakfast - not good. Although we booked our room with breakfast, we ended up having ours at The Huxley on 2nd day (end of Princes St), 100x better. Would I stay here again, probably, just for it’s location. However I’d save myself the money and get a room without breakfast.

We had some problems in the beginning with finding out which room we had, but we got a complimentary drink and were taken care of perfectly. We were helped when needed and had a very nice stay. The room was great and it had a real modern and Scottish ambiance. The hotel is located very central in walking distance to the castle and old town and in the heart of the new town with the shopping and the restaurants

Excellent place to stay with everything needed well-equipped- comfortable bed, clean bathroom of reasonable space, full kitchen with handy utensils, lovely sofa and tv. There is a Sainsbury and M&S nearby within 5 mins walk. Many choices of restaurants and bars around as well. Waverley station is about 15 mins walk if with luggages. The second night of our stay we found the housekeeping staff forgot to change the towels, bathroom rubbish bin and prepare a new roll toilet paper. We told the staff and the problem has been immediately solved. The only con is the bar downstairs was loud even until 4-5am (even on Monday). But we were all exhausted every night when in Edinburgh since it's an amazing place with lots to explore, wouldn't be too big of a problem. Another recommendation apart from the hotel itself - there is a café nearby "Urban Angel"- turn right when walking out of front gate of The Spires and walk for 10 secs. Be sure dnt miss its egg benedict with spinach.

Pros: Good central location. Within easy walking distance of town center. Room and bathroom spotless. Clean linens. Coffee and tea etc in room - plenty too! Buffet breakfast at Ricks brilliant idea. Cons: Owner unable (for various reasons) to install an elevator. Therefore, if you have an issue climbing several flights of stairs ask for a room at ground level. Even then you will have to climb three short flights. There was an exhaust fan running up the building near our window. It ran from 6am to 11pm. Fortunately the double pane window helped to mute the noise.

This place was gorgeous! Very clean and host was very helpful with any information we needed. We were staying over after going to The Stand Comedy Club. We hadnt realised we booked the weekend the clocks went forward and when i spoke with the host she was happy to let us stay an extra hour for free when checking out. Highly recommend and will use again with or without our boys as there are enough beds for 4 of us :D Elly
