The hotel is EXCELLENT. If you are looking for a posh birthday treat for your mummy, this is IT! Mummy loved her 3 day, 2 night stay. We had a room (1017) facing the jetty in the Victory Annexe- absolutely beautiful, very calming with the sound of the waves at night as you sleep. The hotel's colonial vibe with its history makes it charming. All staff were friendly & professional. International breakfast at Sarkies (Ground floor) was excellent. We had roti channai which was accompanied with fish curry & dalca (vegetarian curry). Being a Singaporean, I felt like home with my very familiar comfort food. To my (very pleasant) surprise, they took it a notch higher when the fish curry was actually SALMON curry. This was my very first time trying SALMON with thick curry (just how i like it). It tasted absolutely delicious. You MUST try. If you want to go for a nice dinner with live jazz band playing, you can take a 5 mins stroll from the hotel to ThirtyTwo at The Mansion.

A wonderful stay!”
The hotel staff, amenities and room were wonderful! It is a historic building so then ambiance lends itself to that but if you love that feel then by all means - stay here! Even if that aesthetic is not necessarily your preference, I’d recommend giving it a try because it wasn’t my preference either but I ended up loving it because of the large space, the balcony overlooking the water, the food and the pool. The pool is the best I’ve seen in my 5 country site seeing excursion thus far. The spa is also fantastic! The entire place is a must for Penang! It is also very close to the Blue Mansion in case anyone wanted to see that attraction. Lastly, as a female solo traveler I felt very comfortable here.

Pleasurable Stay”
Pros: 1. Excellent service (from check-in to check-out) 2. Fantastic room (stayed at the Deluxe Suites, Heritage Wing) with a fantastic view. Well furnished and very clean. 3. Farquhar's Bar. A very good place to chill-out for cocktails and pub food. Great service and food (a must try, the Char Kuay Teow). 4. The swimming pool (Heritage Wing). Nostalgia filled, even if it is a smaller pool in comparison to today's standards. But fantastic deck chairs, so comfortable!! Cons: Nothing really. Everything up to expectations. Looking forward to staying there again.

The hotel was well maintained, the environment was good and all of the staffs are very friendly and helpful. The dinner buffet (only available on Friday and Saturday night on additional cost) was excellent as there a lot of food variety. The breakfast spread was also great. Since the hotel and restaurant is facing the sea, I would suggest to hv breakfast during sunrise as the view is superb. The beach in front of the hotel was also very clean, no unpleasant smell. All in all, very good and memorable trip, worth every money spent! Will definitely come back again.

The breakfast spread was incredible. Food was prepared on the spot for consumption. The quality and taste was fabulous. The staff were incredibly helpful and accommodating. The room was large and comfortable. The view from from balcony is as promised - an unobstructed view of the sea. You can even choose the kind of pillows that you would like to have. The toilet is ridiculously spacious and incredibly well kept. The room is always made-up to look amazing after the staff have been in it. Perfect location. Everything is nearby.

Lovely colonial style ”
9 years ago when first visiting Penang on a budget we said if we returned and could afford it we would stay here!’ It didn’t disappoint, lovely room, fabulous bathroom and we had a sea view too. We were in the annexe as the original hotel is undergoing some refurbishment but this did not matter. Two restaurants to choose from for breakfast, bar and a lovely pool and gym, The staff were very helpful and courteous. The pool mainly gets sun in the morning but is a welcome place to relax late afternoon,in the shade, with gentle sea breezes blowing in. It was very hot when we visited but the town is within easy walking distance and we enjoyed sampling many bars, cafes, restaurants and visiting the shops. There is so much to see in this town, we did notice a huge change in the last 9 years but change for the better as it is now a UNESCO world heritage site and the buildings are protected.

Sarkies at the main lobby has one of the most amazing buffet restaurants where you can eat your way around the world. Whereas the a Planter’s Lounge on the 6/F offers elegant dining indoors as well as alfresco dining by the pool and large verandah with panoramic views over the open sea. I would highly recommend the peach guava juice which is amazing in taste and for digestion when there is so much high quality food on offer at buffet. And especially so in settling my stomache after I once returned from sampling street food, or rich food. All in all, the service was one of the best where you are made to feel like family or coming home with the frontline staff. E&O is a beautiful hotel of grace and old world charm, and I look forward to returning to it when the heritage wing has been completed.

My stay at E & O Penang”
This is my first time staying in Georgetown Penang, as I usually stay in Batu Ferringhi. Hence this is my first stay in E & O and it is a memorable experience. The service was excellent with polite and helpful staffs. The breakfast was not only scrumptious but the spread was bountiful I had keeping up. My room was spacious and clean with an excellent view of the sea. All in all Excellent as they have maintained their 5 star quality

Excellent hotel, excellent people”
Hotel itself is wonderful with spacious room, beautiful decor, exceptional facilities and inclusions. A special mention must be made about the excellent and wonderful customer service. We unfortunately had a death in family, and very suddenly had to change our travel itinerary during our second of four nights to fly to Korea. Despite our booking being during a special promotion and the initial booking conditions being non-refundable, the staff were so wonderfully kind and understanding so as to expeditiously approve a free cancellation and refund of the remainder of the booking. Moreover, they were so thoughtful as to pack us breakfast for our early departure at 4am! We were astounded at how far they exceeded our expectations. We couldn’t praise them highly enough. We absolutely recommend Eastern & Oriental and will definitely be staying here for our future trips to Penang.

Heritage yet Comfortable with Sea View”
Thanks to E&O for preparing a wonderful room prep & a very delicious cake for our special occasion. We love the comfortless of the room, the bathroom especially! The sea view is relaxing, with wonderful weather during our stay, love to relax ourselves at balcony. Choose E&O for its strategic location near to attractions of Georgetown, with wonderful sea view, compared to other Hotel which is far away from the town. Love it, thanks once again!

Lovely stay”
My husband and I had the best time staying in the hotel. Spacious, cosy and not to mention a huge four claw bathtub for hot shower. balcony attached, facing the sea, you can see the sun rise and set. The only downside is that staffs are too diligent and was cleaning day and night, and it was kind of creepy when I realize the room was cleaned after our evening gathering with our friend., didnt expect that. But still love it!! 5 stars

Wonderful experience”
Checking in was a bit busy and we had to wait for 2.5 hours before we could get to our room. Just to be fair, it was also due to the sudden surge of travelers. Nothing to fault with the front office and the service is superb despite the stressful situation. The whole stay was really relaxing and staff at cafe and restaurants were really attentive. They were hospitable and most importantly did not keep us waiting for long for our food. The room was spacious and the bed is commendable. It is soft yet firm allowing - taking all the stress away the moment your body sank into the wonderful bed! The whole experience was an excellent one and we have just booked another 2 more nights in December! A place to chill with family!

I loved this place, a stunning colonial styled heritage hotel. Our room is gorgeous with a bay view and a balcony, comfortable bed, huge bathroom., well equipped with amenities. Gym is well appointed and spacious with an ocean view. The infinity pool is a great place for relaxing. The breakfast buffet was amazing, huge selection of high quality Asian and Western food. Highly recommended hotel when you travel to Penang.

Impeccable service and sumptuous food”
From the moment we stepped into the hotel, the staff were attentive to our needs and gave us a warm welcome. The Suite was clean, bed was comfortable to sleep in, breakfast at Palm Court and dinner at Java Tree was sumptuous and the cocktails and canapés hour was enjoyable and the Farquhar’s Bar was cosy. All in all it was a really wonderful stay at the hotel!

Perfect room and great service”
I had a great experience during my stay with E&O. The room was clean and tidy. The room size was quite big for a studio room ant it worth for money. The interior was really nice and still maintain, but the stand lamp need improvement because it looks unstable to put a cup of tea. The service provided was tremendous. On overall, i love my stay at e&o.

E&O Restaurant Manager made an exception and opened the Java Tree Restaurant just for my family when my son contacted the hotel on his plan to have a surprise dinner. Andrea who hosted us during the dinner was an exceptional staff, who had given an excellent service. I was very impressed with all the staff who were all pleasant, warm and friendly, courteous and very efficient; butler, restaurants, Gallery, Emporium, door bell etc. This is the best hotel I have ever been to and it has left a very good impression to my family. I am already planning to go again 😃

I booked 1 week bfre my departure date & the price so high. So if u plans to stay here do book a month before so u can get the best price at lowest rate. Keep checking it. I love their breakfast & got many choices. Same goes to their quite infinity & sea view pool! Their staff from concierge, front desk & at the pool was so friendly & helpful. A classic hotel for a memorable stay”
E&O is a classic hotel with a long history. We stayed at the Victory Annexe which is the newer wing of the hotel. Opt for the sea facing room for the amazing view. The swimming pool on 6th floor boasts and amazing view as well. Buffet spread at Sarkies is well curated with many choices of local and international cuisine. Taking a stroll within the hotel compound is an experience itself. The heritage wing is showcases some history of the hotel including some of their famous guests. Visit the gift store, Emporium at the Victory Annexe wing to get the iconic E&O coasters. All in all, it was a great stay and will definitely come back again in the future.

Heritage Hotel along Georgetown's historic waterfront”
This colonial-era hotel lived up to my expectations! The room was spacious and exquisitely-designed. They even provided a batik sarong wrap to get a feel of what locals would wear. The buffet breakfast at Sarkies was one of the best I have ever experienced with the wide range of local and international cuisine. Do try the char kway teow! It has the smokiness and char (wok hei) like how it is done by street hawkers. If you want to unwind and be pampered, the Panpuri spa is the place to be with its excellent service and spa packages. We will be back!
