Excellent service and facilities. The room is fantastic. Buffet has wide variety and did not try to recycle left over dinner for breakfast. Strangely though the breakfast tasted better than the dinner.

Disappointed. Mix western and Japanese style. Look a bit fake ”

Fancy hotel but I don t recommend if you look for a Japanese style hotel. It s a mix like the buffet or the bedroom... it sounds fake for japan. That s why I did not like a lot even if the onsen is nice. And it needs to take a 30’ ride by bus from Obihiro-Shi station. (Free if charge if you ask the ticket at the bus station). Buffet style is both western and Japanese.

Letdown of our Hokkaido trip”

The biggest let down of our entire trip in Hokkaido.Perhaps we had went with too high an expectation. Was really looking forward to our stay here as it was fully booked during our last trip to Hokkaido. Service was great, attentive and warm. Rooms were spacious, attached Onsen was great too. View of the Tokachi river as advertised. Felt very short changed by the food provided though. Not only variety was the least among all the other hotel buffets we had ( or at least the impression it gave us), the quality/taste of the food also could not compare to what we had elsewhere. Was really looking forward to trying some local Tokachi beef, however, the steak served during dinner was really quite... disappointing. Pretty sure it has nothing to do with the fact that it wasn't Tokachi beef though. We actually drove out to town after dinner to one of the izakayas in town for supper. All in all it was quite underwhelming and felt disappointed. Definitely not worth the price we paid IMO.

Evening dinner buffet was pretty poor. Bath water was good, but overall nothing special at all. Geared up for the Chinese mass market, I presume.

Nice hotel”

Although it's needed to take public transport to the hotel, it was easy (if you were not drove by yourself). Nice private onsen in room. Variety choice of food in the buffet restaurant for both breakfast and dinner.

Nice outdoor hot spring”

The staff at the front desk were able to speak English and were efficient in checking us in. This hotel has a nice outdoor hot spring, we stayed for 2 nights, the rate included dinner, unfortunately the dinner was a buffet. We tried it the first night and did not like it. we paid extra for the kaiseiki option for the 2nd night. On the kaiseiki, menu was in Japanese, nobody was able to explain it to us,we were ok as we had a limited grasp of food items. Somehow 1 course was missed and we were not able to communicate that across at the restaurant. When we brought it up at the front desk the next day, the staff just said to us in English that they could not understand. We found this peculiar as their communication skills the previous day was pretty excellent (that they could explain the upgrade to kaiseki option for us and the different price ranges). Aside from this, pretty decent hotel. If you are not in this area for hot spring, there’s nothing much to do.

Dishonest”

Paid a high price for the room when booking (especially checked dinner and breakfast included), compared to other websites including japanese websites which charges a similar price for a night's stay including dinner and breakfast. However on arrival, despite paying such a premium price, I was told there is no dinner included and I have to pay much more for dinner. Despite contacting agoda and explaining even if i rebook immediately (I am not allowed to cancel on same day), on the site dinner IS included at this price, I was rudely told by agoda staff to PROVE by CAPSCREEN that on the day i made the booking the booking site stated dinner was included. And I was scolded by agoda staff that 'why don't you tell me what to do now that you suddenly CLAIM you paid for dinner when in my records you DIDNT. WHY DON'T YOU TELL ME WHAT TO DO NOW THAT YOU MAKE SUCH A REQUEST'. Both hotel and agoda were very unhelpful, it made my stay very unpleasant. I had to find my own dinner outside.

Nice hotel with beautiful scenary”

This place is good for families. Located next to the river, so the hotel view is very good. Travelling around this area requires a vehicle - it is the best to drive. Food is great.

Room was big enough for 3 adults, good buffet spread for breakfast and dinner, public bath was clean and relaxing, hotel staff was polite. Highly recommended

Pleasant”

As expected from the reviews here. The ryokan was amazing. The decor and everythin was new and clean. The place is pretty easy to find as well. But with all big hotels. The buffet style food is a little too Western for my liking. I would prefer traditional kaiseki style dinners. But overall one of the nicest ryokan I have been to.

I had a very comfortable night staying in this hotel, excellent food, staff and view. I will surely stay in this hotel if I visit this place next time.

Kangetsuen Hotel easy to arrivel ( bcoz my car has GPS). Japanese Style so clean , neat and tidy .meals taste good but not many chooice , service so nice .

Pleasant hotel but disappointing onsen”

the hotel is generally pleasant and nice. but the onsen is a little disappointing. first, the switching of views between the man and ladies is at 9am. cos i checked out before 9am, i get to see one view. normally evening and morning bath have 2 different views as they switch in late in the night, but not this one. second the room i was given faces the carpark instead of the lake view. hence not very pretty view.
