Perfect Edinburgh experience”
My room was perfect -- clean and cozy with thoughtful details like china cups and high-quality tea, coffee, and even shortbread! The ensuite bath was like a luxury spa. And the view onto Princes Street was magical, at night when the Castle is lit up and seems to float above the city -- and in the morning when we were greeted by the sound of bagpipes from the piper across the street. I plan to stay at the Old Waverley whenever I'm in town, and I urge you to do the same!

Perfect for our needs”
I had a 2-night stay at the hotel with my teenage daughter for two nights. We wanted to discover Edinburgh, never having visited before. I chose the Old Waverley mainly because of its fabulous location and its luggage hold. I wanted something traditional. The location of the hotel was even better that I had imagined: a 2-minute walk from the station, a 2-minute walk from St Andrew's Square where the hop on hop off buses start, view over Princes Street, a 10 minute walk from the castle and the Royal Mile. Our room had a view over the David Livingstone monument and Princes Street park. There are countless restaurants nearby, plus an M&S 3 minutes away and many other high street shops. We managed to get a great deal with Agoda, paying about £85 per night for the standard double room. The room was perfectly adequate: a good bed, good pillows, blackout curtains, a desk, comfy armchair, small table, very good en-suite with soap, shower gel and shampoo (ladies, remember to bring conditioner), towels, bathmat and a good shower. There was also a hairdryer and a portable heater/radiator. The only thing that would have improved the room would have been a microwave and a small fridge. There was only a kettle and tea/coffee/sugar/shortbread biscuits. I knew this in advance, so I brought porridge pots and viennoiseries for breakfast (the hotel catering was not offered). A good flatscreen TV, but only terrestrial channels. The staff were very friendly and helpful, allowing us to enter our room before the reglementary 3pm, since the room was ready. If you are visiting Edinburgh via public transport and would like to walk or use the tourist bus, this hotel is perfect. I would definitely return. I did see some negative reviews citing noise and lack of cleaning, however I decided to ignore them. I'm glad I did since I found the room pristinely clean, and the noise of the street didn't bother us at all. In fact it probably helped us to sleep.

The Old Waverly was a great spot. I would definitely come back at another time. The only problem was that the dining room is under construction. I’m sure it will be beautiful when finished.

I would certainly stay at the Old Waverley Hotel again. We only stayed one night but wished it had been more. The room was big and so was the bed. It was very clean but dated, but that didn’t detract from our stay. Staff were helpful and pleasant

Great stay”
I took my mom to spend a couple of days in Edinburgh and needed a well located, clean and reasonably price hotel. The Old Waverley was perfect. Yes it is dated but it ticked all boxed and I’m glad we went for it. Perfect location, friendly staff, clean rooms. I would definitely return.

Location Location Location ”
Great location for all the sights, the tour buses and station and trams. Note if you are driving you will not be able to park within 200m of the hotel as it is buses only. However if you want to drop off luggage, you can park behind the hotel at the back of the small park by yhe tour buses. Then once you're checked in you can park nearby in the Q Park underneath the Omni shopping centre at a discounted rate. It's a short 5 min walk from the hotel. Hotel is just what we needed for exploring and the 3Star rating is fair. It was clean and we had a view of the castle and Scott monument which was literally over the road. There was no breakfast available owing to Covid restrictions but we used the Weatherspoons by the station which was quick and friendly. The prices are cheap at the moment because of covid restrictions entering the country, so I would say take advantage of a historic hotel in a brilliant location while you can.

Absolute convenience th or the train station and sights ”
We were a last minute booking and were given a room with the hill top views which was excellent just sitting at the window and identifying the sights.

Excellent”
- A very clean room, except that the kettle needs some cleaning - The room is a bit small especially when you have a large baggage on the floor - It's right in the city centre and just few minutes walk from the train station

Decent stay ”
Good points: • location - couldn’t be any better. 2 mins walk from train station. As central as could be and only short walk to George Street, Royal Mile and Grassmarket. • staff - couldn’t fault them. Very helpful, polite and attentive. • room - I booked a double but ended up with a junior suite. Not sure if that’s normal, however it was spot on. Huge room on 5th floor with plenty space. Bad points • dated hotel - could do with a money spent on it. Very old and tired. • Noise - incredibly noisy where we were. Not so much during the night, but first thing in the morning. Sounded like 100’s of empty beer bottles being collected and poured into bins constantly. Very annoying and very loud! • Breakfast - not good. Although we booked our room with breakfast, we ended up having ours at The Huxley on 2nd day (end of Princes St), 100x better. Would I stay here again, probably, just for it’s location. However I’d save myself the money and get a room without breakfast.

Lovely staff, nice (old) hotel but a bit unreliable ”
We booked into a standard double, but on arrival had been put into a standard twin, this was rectified and we went into a (SMALL) double room. The next day I asked what our room size was and was told it was a junior double - I told them we had paid for a standard double - there was lots of backtracking about who told us we were in a junior double and the fall back of “well it is an old hotel and room sizes vary”?!! We were moved to a larger room, but it felt like they had tried to sneak us into a smaller room than we had paid for and got caught out. On our final morning we asked for an early breakfast for an early flight. This was agreed but on turning up at 7am there was no breakfast. The receptionist was great and scrabbled a breakfast together for us - but it would have been better if the breakfast we had asked for had been provided. All in all a nice (old) hotel, lovely staff - but not at all reliable.
