Doubletree by Hilton”

Great escape to a paradise island. Service is superb. Staff quietly but with friendliness go about making your stay a happy, calm and relaxing one. A pity the shared beach equipment was all unavailable due to covid restrictions. Watching the sea life at night time, due to effective lighting, was a major treat.

It was just what we needed. Warm, easy and relaxing. Great place will come again. Esp if a few fresh items are added to the menu and even a very small À la cart menu would be much appreciated and would enhance the overall very good experience.

So much potential”

The DoubleTree by Hilton Ilot Maitre Resort should be an example of the best the Hilton Group has to offer, with an incredible location with views towards Noumea, really nice rooms (we stayed in an overwater bungalow), most comfortable hotel bed we have ever slept in, free Wi-Fi, gym, good buffet breakfast, friendly reception staff and lots of turtles swimming in the lagoon in front of the hotel (that you can swim with too). But unfortunately, it is let down by a number of things like scavenging seagulls on the roof above the restaurant patio waiting to pounce on your food when you turn your head, no water sports activities (unless you bring your own equipment), no shop, poor and expensive wine list and at night, a restaurant serving a very average, very limited and very expensive buffet dinner, with the same food served every night and with no menu options. We would definitely come back, but the dinner option frustrations mean it would only be for a few nights.

Good choice but only for a few days ”

We stayed at the over water bungalows. They are pretty amazing with turtles swimming underneath and the snorkelling off the decks is pretty amazing. But it was quite windy the few days we were there and not that warm. The resort doesn’t make it very easy with little information. The food isn’t the best, there was much better food elsewhere but of course you’re stuck on an island. Great as a gimmick and great snorkelling but only stay a few days, certainly more more than 2 nights.

Very good place to stay for a couple of nights. Yes it is pricey but It is magical. you can swim with the turtles just under your bedroom. It is like a beautiful postcard. Won't stay more than 2 days, you will be bored after. Only negative point is that there is only 1 restaurant with no menu. It offers only buffet for lunch and dinner and it is 100 euros every time per persons. I found frustrating the fact that if you are not very hungry and just want a light lunch you can't . I will recommend to bring some food from Noumea as there is no shops neither on ilot maitre

Great resort, must experience”

Expensive but worth every cent. Try to stay at least 2-3 nights at this place, its worth it. Its expensive but do it, go for the bungalow over the water, that is the best place. Dont go half as in this resort, dont do the day trip and dont do the garden view, go all in, book the bungalow over the water for at least 2-3 nights. Watching the sunset at you bungalow and waking up in the morning with the calm clear water, seeing all the sea turtles, sting rays, colorfull fishes at you door step like you are on top of a huge aquarium is what you are paying for. Pay extra for the dinner buffet, go all out, its expensive but this is the place to do it to really feel you have done this holiday right, doing it half as you will be disappointed because it will only make you wish you went all out and before you know it you are leaving the island with regret you didnt this part of your holiday right and the thing is you may never come back to Noumea anymore so you have missed out on the opportunity completely. Noumea in general is pricey even on off peak season, you just imagine that all the value is pretty much Euros equevalent even though is Pacific Franc. Whatever anything would normally cost in Australia or New Zealand, when you buy similar item in Noumea its double the cost. This resort is expensive but worth the money to spend. Though it may look dated from the outside, it just add a more authentic beach rustic vibe to the ambiance. The rooms were huge with separate living area, huge marble tiled bathrooms with separate tub and larch shower, large slimming vanity mirror, large tv and closet and ofcourse your balcony has its own access to the water below for bungalow over the water.

Lovely hotel for honeymooners”

Fantastic sea view

The hotel is simply fantastic. Great location, smacked in a private island and beach. It's the perfect getaway spot, a breakaway from the hustle and bustle of city life and perfect for honeymooners. Best hotel in Noumea, without a doubt! One setback is you could only dine in the resort, which means you have no choice but to have their buffet breakfast and dinner other than doing room service. We find the food lack variety and quality for the price you're paying. We enjoyed the overwater bungalow - living room, bedroom and toilet are spacious with balcony to chill and lookout for sunsets. You could also jump off anytime for snorkel. Waters are crystal clear!

Amazing Sea View”

Great spacious room, amazing view over the ocean and really friendly and accommodating service.

I stayed at one of the rooms over the sea and it was incredible. I think staying in the 'garden view' style rooms would be a bit wasted on this island with such stunning vistas. It was peaceful, the staff were always accommodating but never overbearing and dinner and breakfast were first class with most items made in house. Transport to the island was easy and the water was warm and ideal to swim in.

Just what we were looking for”

Great island getaway. We stayed in the bungalow and was just what we were looking for. Reefs were great for snorkeling and we got to see all kinds of underwater wildlife. We also went in the off-season and we were able to get a late check out, which gave us extra time to enjoy a few more hours. Price was reasonable for the atmosphere and would definitely recommend to others.

The location and the beach next to our room

it was an enjoyable stay. our room was right next to the beach. reasonable price for such a private island and resort. only thing was why was there 3 beds in a room? we reckon it was for private massage. totally recommend this resort for stay if you're heading to Noumea! Staff was pleasant, although they don't necessarily understand you due to language barrier.

Stunningly Beautiful Location”

We had an overwater bungalow and I recommend everyone try that for once in their life. I recommend a 4-5 night stay. At 3 nights, we wished we could have had at least one more. Amazing snorkeling, powerful jet skis and great massage . Bring food/drink with you. The midweek (cheap) price per person for dinner is $55usd for a decent buffet and beers are at least $10usd. Staff on island are great. Staff on boat/land are largely indifferent to your existence.

over the water, laid back island

reat location for over the water bungalo but only stay for 3 nights - the island is small and buffets are a bit pricey for the quality - don;t get me wrong, food was edible; the resort is staffed at a low level and they let folks visit from minland by day too. The agoda ad said transfers included but the resort only provided wtare transfer from port to island an dback - not airport to port.

Great location for a relaxing holiday”

The coral reefs were great for snorkelling, we would see 5/6 turtles each day. Only really buffet available which was very expensive. Tapas were more like basic bar food on offer. The resort was a bit tired and I requested a bottle of wine and flowers for our arrival as it was a special anniversary but nothing was in the room so it was disappointing. But still a very relaxing stay when you get used to the snakes and spiders.

Such a disappointment!”

Over water bungalow - nothing else

There was not enough to do. Snorkelling and water craft were available (water craft extra money), but very little else. If the weather is bad, like we experienced, there really isn't anything to do. A resort needs to offer at least a gym so some sort of exercise can be accomplished. The very worst thing though is the poor quality of food and the exorbitant price you are forced to pay. There is only one place to eat and it is a smorgasbord every night. Very little variation from night to night. In fact, we wondered how much food from the night before was there. The same pot of soup was certainly the same for a few nights in a row, The cost of the smorgasbord is about $A80 per person. We even had to pay extra for tea or coffee at dinner, about $A7 per cup. There was no alternative. There were snakes everywhere! Even snakes climbing the steps to the over water bungalows. We were so disappointed by our whole experience. 1 or 2 nights stay at the most and be prepared to pay exorbitant prices for everything. Take lots of books to read. We felt very ripped off.
