Memorable and full of Surprises”

The best place to stay to experience Japanese traditional life. The host Shino san is an amazing host, he really take care and think a lot about the guests. In the beginning he said he wanted to create a good memory for us, and apparently he did with his amazing hospitality. He prepared many activities that we can try and the traditional food was awesome too. The Tamago kakegohan for breakfast was the best we ever had. Everyone should stay here while traveling to Japan! You would never find something else like this place.

More than just a place to sleep.”

Everyone should have the correct expectations as this is not a standard hotel. The location in the mountains is wonderful, and Shino-san is a good cook. Even though the weather was getting chilly, the heating pad for the futon was perfect. I learned much about how mountain towns do, and mostly, used to, live.
Unfortunately I was not able to arrive at check-in time and because the winter days are short, I was unable to participate in everything planned. Recommend and guests try to arrive earlier in the day in order to experience the various activities around the property. Even with the late arrival, a great experience.

Amazing experience!!!”

By far the best experience. Iya Valley is gorgeous. However, Shino-san made it even more enjoyable. He is so warm and welcoming. The location is also perfect for exploring Iya. It is very close to hiking trails, Mt. Tsurugi, 15-min drive to Kazurabashi vine bridge and 30-min drive to peeing boy statue. Overall, staying at Kajiya is a must do if coming to Iya.

A different experience”

The host, Shino san, does a great job of providing a different stay. We learned about the local culture and his house gave us a taste of the traditional life in the area. Shino san was very helpful and generous and we would definitely stay again.

Wonderful”

Shino-San is a great host. He is there to show how life was in a traditional home in the Iya valley! The food and sake were delicious. The kids had a great time chopping wood and making fire to heat the bath water and to cook rice. Shino-san is there to help you discover and enjoy the area.

An awesome experience of living a traditional Japanese lifestyle”

At 2 degC, imagine staying in a traditional guest house, chopping your wood to prepare fire to cook your own rice, soaking in a hot tub of water heated by firewood, having dinner cooked in the central hearth in the house, enjoying sumptuous dinner and drinking sake with a wonderful host. It’s all happening here. Just loved the aromatic burnt taste of rice cooked by the fire you make, huge collection of sake which you can sample. It’s the kind of holiday getaway experience that you can’t find elsewhere. Shino San makes sure you find your stay here fulfilling. highly recommended

An amazing experience”

This is not accommodation, it is an experience! Shino-san was an amazing host who looked after us exceptionally well. The house in which you stay is an original old house, halfway up the hill with fantastic views. You experience what it is like to live in the traditional way in such a house, including the meals. Shino-san is a good cook and has an extensive sake collection! The whole thing is an experience to be embraced and enjoyed. We certainly did and it will likely remain the highlight of our yet-unfinished trip to Japan. If you enjoy nature, the Iya Valley is just superb and Shino-san's place is a great base from which to explore it. He is the perfect host. Thoroughly recommended!
