Motel 6-San Ysidro, CA - San Diego - Border
San Ysidro,San Ysidro - View on map"Yeah the hotel is clean and basic but was perfect for my gf and I to spend sometime downtown at a reasonable price....be ready for a lot of homeless when you walk around the town though, that is nothing to do with the hotel but a sad situation in San Diego. Location is also convenient to walk down to the Midway, that would be my recommendation. One of the best services offered was parking, impossible to find in the downtown area."

San Ysidro
San Ysidro,San Ysidro - View on map"There is a deposit of $250 which is not disclosed of if you book online. I made the reservation then canceled within an hour and was still charged a night. I spoke to every employee behind the counter for the next few shifts and the morning employee behind the desk ignored me for about 15 minutes. I would understand a $250 deposit for a nicer hotel but not for that one. I would not even consider this place ever again."

Rodeway Inn
San Ysidro,San Ysidro - View on map"I recently spent one night at the San Ysidro Rodeway Inn. Overall I enjoyed my stay. My room was well lit and nicely appointed with a mini fridge and microwave oven. Large flat-screen TV with at least two dozen basic and premium cable channels. Lots of dining choices in the area. This is the closest US hotel to the border. Just walk three blocks south and you're there.
Now for the negatives: While well appointed, the room looked rundown and smelled stale. There was a large hole in the bathtub that was crudely repaired and I felt as if the sub-floor was moving while standing in the shower.
I would stay here again provided I was allowed to inspect the room prior to checking in."
