Great value for money”
It was my second time staying at this hotel. There's a great cafe right by the JR station that does lovely coffee and breakfast sets. It's small, but really has everything you need, and I've always had a good night's sleep here - and location really is great. I thought I'd leave some comprehensive directions for anyone looking to stay here. 1. Asagaya is on the Chuo line and Chuo-Soba rapid line. Take note if you arrive in Japan on a weekend, the Chuo-Soba rapid line will *skip* Asagaya, but will not skip Asagaya on weekdays. If you arrive on a weekend (like I did) just switch over to the local line at Shinjuku. 2. When you arrive at Asagaya station, exit the South side and turn immediately right. It's a narrow-ish alley and you should see vending machines and a cycling track. 3. Keep following that alley and big signs pointing you towards Smile Hotel will be pretty visible soon enough! It's just a minute away. :)

Our stay with Smile Hotel is perfect! Location is just beside the train station, with a lot of shops, supermarket, restaurants and convenience stores and even vendo machines! Very convenient and comfortable ”
I stayed here on two seperate occasions, the location is great, it’s away from the busy parts of Tokyo but you can get to anywhere you need to go because it’s so close to the station. Good shower pressure, comfortable beds and very friendly staff.

I accidentally booked my room for the day before, so when I arrived they informed me that my reservation had been YESTERDAY.. They clicked a few buttons, gave me a room card, and didn't charge me any extra money/penalty for having gotten my dates mixed up which was AWESOME! Great staff, great location, great neighborhood (for food especially), very grateful to Smile Hotel Asagaya!

We have stayed here several times and keep coming back. Very convenient location right near JR Asagaya station. The room is more spacious than your typical business hotel room. I love the amenities they provide especially the individual packs of face wash, lotion and moisturiser available at the reception counter. The only downside this time is that they seem to have done away with giving you a choice of pillows. There was only 1 pillow per bed. I would have appreciated an extra one.

Staff was great. Location was very very convenient with a lot to do. The room was small but comfortable and clean. The trains going by was the only drawback, that and the earthquakes. Can’t blame that on the hotel.

Air conditioner wasn't working”
Booked two rooms for a family of four. Neither room had a functioning air conditioner, but/so the staff provided us with electric fans. They also didn't have complimentary water. The location is perfect if you really intend to stay a bit farther away from downtown, as the hotel is right below Asagaya Station, where you can take the train to Shinjuku.

My room was right next to the train station. This wouldn't have been a big problem since the windows are actually very soundproof. The problem was the room was very stuffy, with no ventilation, so I had to open the window.

weak wifi but GREAT location”
as always, the location is GREAT, literally a 2 minute walk to asagaya Tokyo Station, restaurants nearby, convenient store too, and a mini mall where there's a bake shop. The area has Burger King, McDonald's, Starbucks, Uniqlo, Japanese food, etc etc. I wouldn't hesitate to book this hotel over and over. The only downside is the weak wifi, I'm on 2nd floor.

Been repeated staying here for few times because of the location & place (i like Asagaya). The room is small, but is acceptable for solo travel. The cleanliness is ok except the aircon is very dusty. Staff are very friendly.

Directly beside JR Asagaya Station. Too loud ”
The room do not come with aircon, they only have heating which is fine during winter. You Just need to open up the window will do. However that’s when the problem come in. Every few minutes the train will make announcement and the train arrive and departing sound will give you so much noise pollution . We shut the window but then the room become too hot. I did not enjoyed my stay at all . Hotel do not provide travel adaptor as well.

Small town experience, big city easy access. ”
Do not get the cheaper room if you are staying more than one night. Our room was too small, so we changed to a much bigger room for not much money. One or two breakfasts OK, but it’s the same thing every day. Only the fish changes. The salmon was superb. Only about half of the staff spoke English. Those that could were very helpful. Good serving on the rooms. Bathrooms were a bit different but clean and manageable. At first we weren’t sure about the area, but a little exploring changed all that. Many good restaurants and not expensive. Shopping was easy for everyday items, and there was a nice grocery store around the corner. No cars, just a lot of bicycles which we liked. Easy walk to the metro station and a short ride to the inner city in 20 minutes for 170 yen or $1.50 US. Don’t take a taxi even from the airport. The metro is easy, cheap and the people are very helpful. Most speak at least some English. Get a Metro map. My Chinese wife and this American will definitely stay again.

Unpleasant experience ”
I have requested two beds in my room and received confirmation that hotel accept my request, but when I check in, the staff said no such request and I have to pay extra hkd$1500 for the only one 2 bed room left in typhoon week with noisy air con that full of dust. Both of agoda and hotel did not take the responsibility for the fault confirmation that they sent me. I cannot accept this unreasonable incident and do not recommend this hotel and book via agoda.

Hotel look old but with great and accessible location. Room smell and to our surprise we found 1 stick of ice cream inside the fridge which we guess most likely belong to the previous guest. Meaning that the House Keeping is not doing a good job.

L'hôtel est présenté sur le site d'Agoda comme étant à Shinjuku. Il est en fait dans le district de Shinjuku, soit à plusieurs kilomètres de la gare de Shinjuku ! Mais cela est compensé par le fait que la Chuo Line (la gare d'Asagaya est à 200 m) nous amène à Shinjuku en moins de dix minutes, et de là tout le réseau métropolitain de Tokyo.La Chuo Line mène directement aussi à Tokyo station, ce qui permet de prendre facilement le Narita express pour l'aéroport. L'éloignement relatif de l'Hôtel est compensé par le fait qu'il se trouve au milieu d'un petit quartier à la vie nocturne très agréable (petits bars sympathiques pour les habitués, ce n'est pas un quartier "chaud" !). Chambre petite comme c'est souvent le cas au Japon, mais très propre. L'hôtel est le long des voies de la gare ! J'ai demandé à disposer d'une chambre côté rue, je n'ai souffert d'aucune nuisance. Le petit déjeuner n'a d'intérêt que s'il est compris dans le prix de la chambre. Ce n'est pas une adresse luxueuse, mais un excellent compromis pour qui ne veut pas dépenser trop d'argent et bénéficier d'une ambiance très tokyoite aux alentours de l'hôtel.
