Rich in History, Fully Renovated, Beautiful Gardens ”
Great experience to visit this hotel with lots of history and ample amenities, fully remodeled. Despite the hotel's 150+ years of history, facilities were newly remodeled and very clean while the architectures still offering rich history. We loved the hotel's gardens and took many photos. We visited many Japanese onsen ryokans but this hotel was not bad at all for its price and facilities. We plan to return here with family when we revisit the Hakone Mt.

An amazing value at a mind-blowing hotel”
Everything at Fujiya Hotel was more than I'd hoped for. There's even a free valet service! The entire experience was almost too nice. My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary in Hakone and the Fujiya Hotel has set the bar extremely high for future celebrations. Everyone I've talked to about the hotel has been blown away by the low price of our room through Agoda. We both even got the fanciest breakfast ever for something like an additional $20. Ridiculous! We plan to take full advantage of similar deals in the future. The views of the surrounding areas are quite gorgeous. Our room was a lovely Western-style, nothing spectacular about the room itself but everything else went above and beyond our expectations. I can't recommend it enough.

Historic and beautiful hotel, excellent service”
My travel book calls the Fujiya 'atmospheric' and they were right. From the welcome in the wood-panelled reception area to the character in the room, this hotel is very special. The immaculate garden was a particular delight and full of traditional Japanese features and charm. (We went to the famous Kenroku'en garden later in our trip, and it was disappointing compared to the surprises at the Fujiya, like the greenhouses and the bonsai display.) The room was excellent value, and had a seating area. The town of Myanoshita has some restaurants (the Grill at the Fujiya was a bit pricey for us) and you can easily walk to get the mountain train to tour the Hakone region. The staff are very attentive, and charming - we found this everywhere in Japan, in fact. Having the onsen waters in your own bath was great.

Unique Hotel”
We were in Hakone at the Fujiya Hotel for one night only. Room is very old but comfortable and clean. The staff at the hotel is excellent...esp Wataru Kamei. He was exceptional. Also the staff in the coat room were so attentive and pleasant. The services you offer such as shuttle to train station is wonderful. Grounds are pretty. Was somewhat disappointed that the "onsen" in the room was a regular tub with onsen water.

Historical, charming Japanese hotel”
Not modern by any means, but worth the experience. Recommend dinner as well. Clean but outdated rooms, but this is not the reason for staying here. Everyone who travels to Hakone, should stay at the Fujiya Hotel.

Serene and restful stay ”
Our stay at the Fujiya Hotel was so relaxing! Although the hotel seemed full ( as seen from the bustling lobby crowd), it was serene and quiet in the area where the rooms were located. The room was comfortable, with a great view. The hotel personnel were gracious and most helpful. The food at their French restaurant was delicious. One could choose whether to soak in the hot spring waters in the comfort of one's room or use their pool or reserve a private pool formuse for 45 minutes. Free taxi service to and from the hotel is readily available.

One of the highlights of my trip!”
Stayed 2 nights at the Fujiya and it was wonderful. Yes, it is a bit worn, but oh what charm! We were fortunate to stay in the old main building of the hotel. We had a very lovely, large--huge by Japan's modern hotel standards--room with a view of the back garden. We booked 3 months ahead for the foliage season and am I glad! The place was fully booked. The hot water in the hotel draws from a hot spring, so you can bathe in a luxurious old tub in your room! I've seen some mixed reviews and can't speak to the quality of rooms in the newer sections, but if you enjoy the old world charm of a European style colonial hotel, this is it!

Grand old beauty!”
We stayed at the Flower Palace in a huge and lovely older historic room, but with modern amenities. The mountain view was really nice. This is building is also very well placed in the Fujiya Hotel complex. Upgraded from the Forest building for only ¥3200 and glad we did. Wonderful stay in a beautiful grand hotel!

Beautiful hotel, especially in Autumn”
We felt most welcomed the moment we drove up to the hotel entrance and the valet came out to greet us with perfect English, and was showed around the huge hotel. Most of the staff we encountered spoke good English. The hotel's garden was beautiful and an attraction by itself, with autumn colours at its peak in November. The hotel was a quick drive from family-friendly attractions such as Yunessun (hot spring resort), Hakone Open Air Museum and Sounzan (to catch the ropeway).

Nice Hotel with excellent staff ”
We had an overall, very nice experience staying at his hotel for a night. We had some trouble with the air conditioning in our rooms but the staff did a great job of solving the problem as quickly as possible. The hotel is quite large and the gardens are very nice for a walk. The hotel is old and could use a renovation but for the price we paid compared with surrounding hotels I think we got our value. I will say I may have a slightly different view than most as I like the history and unique architecture of this place so I was willing to ignore some of the worn aspects. The Hotel's restaurants and bar were very good. We enjoyed a nice dinner in the french restaurant, but be aware the prices are high as it is a very formal style place. We did not get out to see the sites of Hakone as this was our last day of an 11 day japan trip and we were pretty tired so just wanted to slow down and relax.

Hotel with lots of history”
The hotel is filled with history and the gardens are so beautiful, everyone should put the Fujiya on their list of 'must see' places in Japan. Foreigners should take advantage of the special plan in the off peak season. However, even if you do visit in high season the rooms for the basic plan are not too expensive. The food is very expensive for a family of four on a budget so we ate outside of the hotel, but there was a good choice of places to eat in Miyanoshita. The hotel staff were very friendly to us and the children were made to feel very welcome.

Beautiful old classic”
We picked Fujiya specifically for its historic majesty. We found it to be charming and entirely the appeal for the place. We had an enormous fifth floor room with a spectacular view of the village and mountains--upgraded thank you very much Fujiya. Other reviews cover the big concerns many have with this grand old dame's age. We, on the other hand, embrace her for what she is. A timeless classic with amazing history, stunning grounds, and old world charm.

Good for booking with Agoda”
The Fujiya hotel is a beautiful historic place to stay in the Hakone area. However, when booking with Agoda, we received one of the back rooms near the train. The room was a nice size and clean. It was sufficient.

Historic Fujiya Hotel needs repair”
The Fujiya Hotel is an historic hotel that needs some repair. It has a museum that features old artifacts and photos. The room we had was spacious and quiet. The prices for meals is very high so we asked a taxi driver to take us to a yakiniku (grilled meat) restaurant not far from the Venetian Glass museum. It was really good!
