Summary”
Advertised as luxury boutique hotel Bedroom was only just big enough to contain double bed and top floor difficult to access via very narrow twisty staircase with bags ! Bar and downstairs nicely appointed but it was all set for meals and no snug lounge area to relax in after meal or early evening etc shame . Location not one thing not another had to drive anywhere as it’s way out of twin on a ring road roundabout but east drive up to Windermere or into Kendal Overall sort of ok but just missing those final touches Oh and don’t hand the builders staying there as pulls down atmosphere

Breakfast is superb. ”
Nice isolated location, not far from town by car. Very good chef for breakfast with selection menu around 11.5 GBP each. All good but boiler is not hot enough to provide warm shower if you want to take bath in a cold day.

Not brilliant ”
The room we had was lovely until you went into the bathroom. No hot water and the shower area was grubby too. The cooked breakfast took a long time, eggs were solid and the sausage was undercooked.

Noisy Hotel Struggled to Sleep”
Firstly I never usually leave reviews but I felt quite strongly about this so decided to take time to do it. The hotel is right next to the motorway and doesn’t have double glazing. Plus our room was above the kitchen so the constant banging of the door was annoying. The doors to the small corridors don’t have door closers so they were a bit noisy too. The flood lights at the front of the hotel didn’t go off until 1am and due to there not being any black out blinds it was very bright around the window. When the flood lights finally go off the lights from the cars going past sines through so it wasn’t great. The drinks and food are a bit overpriced. I paid £3 for a bottle of still water. The staff, food, decor, room was lovely so i feel awful leaving this negative review but I’m hoping it is received as constructive criticism and that the necessary changes are made to to ensure guests have a more relaxed and pleasant stay. Another positive is that the location is great! You’re literally 15-20 drive from most of the key locations such as Ambleside, Windermere, Grange over Sands, Arnside beach, Keswick. If they made the changes by adding, double glazing, door closers to doors and blackout blindsI would definitely stay again.

Excellent location and perfect for your pooch as well”
We had a brilliant time at The Gateway Inn. It was the perfect location to explore the Lakes and really easily accessible from the motorway. They've just had a complete refurb and it looks fantastic. And the best bit was that our dog was more than welcome. Excellent stay and highly recommend.

Very good”
I had booked a night away as my daughter had her theory test in Kendal 9am sat morning, I had looked at reviews and most seemed good, we got a really good B/B deal and was planning on having dinner there aswell, so we checked in asked what time we liked breakfast! They started at 8am with I thought was quite late but especially when we had to leave the hotel at 8.40am but thought surely we would have enough time to eat and go so that was fine with us! We then got our evening meal menu 🙈 the menu didn’t suit my 17 year old daughter, I love trying new things but even I struggled, so we went elsewhere! So we went for breakfast, lady came asked us if we would like a hot drink, we ordered tea and I said can we place food order now aswell as we are pushed for time! I ordered poached egg and a scrambled egg thinking this will be made real fast but no!! the scrambled egg came after half hour then mine came after 35min, the eggs were overcooked and tasteless, the hotel itself is nice, breakfast was a shambles! Just make sure you read there food menu on there actual website as it’s limited and not to everyone’s taste.
