Excellent stay”
Bag drop / check in is easy with very friendly and helpful staff. Staff speaks English and Chinese. Dinner kaiseki is excellent and wonderfully prepared and presented. There are four onsens, two for men and two for women, which are rotated each day so everyone may experience the different baths. Evening private onsen reservation (unisex) is easy and efficient, highly recommended. Breakfast is as impressive and delicious as dinner. Rooms are spacious with great views of Daimonji. Access is slightly more difficult than advertised due to the cable car disruption, but it should be resolved by Q2 2020 with the improved cable car. Overall highly recommend this ryokan.

Two couples. Had a great time”
The place is only 9 rooms. Our two couples took up 2 of them. Booked two rooms with two adults in each. Dinner was in the dining room but great and still intimate with only a few other families there. The outdoor bath was great and it's extra convenient they offer you the private 30 minutes to soak with your spouse. We got 30 minutes for each room included. Note, there's no shower in the hotel room. I liked that it was readily accessible via train to Gora Station using our Suica card. The train ride from Hakone-Yumoto (we got there from Odawara) was scenic and very cool, although a slow climb up steep slopes (probably about 5% the speed of the shinkansen on average). The host we dealt with most of the week spoke Japanese, English, and Mandarin very well.

Not value for money”
Overall stay was good, comfortable. However, its not worth the money i have booked for this Ryokan. The downside i find is the dinner was quite simple. My wife can't take prawns & sashimi, the replacement they gave wasn't comparable in terms of value. I have stayed other Ryokan before which is better value for money.

Will definitely not come back again”
Stayed one night at Hakone Lalaca. The hotel got a couple of mandarin speaking staff to serve us but we were not happy with the meal and check out arrangement. We had no clue that the dinner started at 6pm. When we arrived at 6:45, the staff urged us to start the dinner ASAP as the restaurant would be closed by 8pm. The next day when we had our breakfast at 8:15am, we were pushed to finish the breaskfast as the restaurant would by closed by 9am. The check out time was supposed to be 10am. A mandarin speaking staff came to our room and urged us to check out at 10:05am. We asked for 30 mins late check out so that We could have enough time to finish packing my luggage but the staff got back to us that there would be an additional charge of ¥1500. Definitely not a relaxing place and will not come back again.

Excellent ryokan in Hakone”
Lalaca is a lovely ryokan run by a lovely family. From the moment you step onto the threshold of the inn, you'll feel this sense of homeliness and relaxation. The food was great- they will serve you a different dish every night. Our romance car was delayed due to an accident so we were not able to reach the inn on time for check-in. (It was stated that you can't have dinner if you don't reach by a certain timing) Fortunately, the receptionist still allowed us to have dinner. We were able to share our dinner with our two kids as the serving size for certain portions are big. The staff were also very friendly and willing to help if you have any requests. The hot springs were relaxing as well - both indoor and outdoor - and you can reserve a private hot spring for free by signing up on a reservation form just outside the private bath door. There was a spectacular view from our room of the autumn foliage dotting the mountains and it's big enough for a family of 4. The ryokan is about a 7-minute walk from Gora station with a slope along the way, so you might have to do a bit of exercise but it was worth taking in the sights along the way. For foreign travelers out there, don't worry about the language barrier! The staff can speak basic English. For those looking for an authentic Japanese experience in the heart of Hakone, I strongly recommend Lalaca for your stay!

Great”
Reason why we chose Lalaca because it is near to Gora Station. We traveled from Kawaguchiko, stopover at Gotemba Premium outlet and the bus bring us directly to Gora station. When we first reached Hakone, Gora station, we followed the google map which makes us walked about 8mins from Gora station. It is a upslope walk. The slope is quite steep and if you are carry luggages, please take the ropeway from Gora station to Koen-Shimo (1 stop) as suggested by the Ryokan staff. Lalaca is a really great place to relax. The surrounding is quaint and calming. Our room overlook trees and Mount Daimonji. There are birds chirping and no other noises. The room may seem costly but it is value for money as the dinner and breakfast served is wonderful. Upon check in, lalaca also gave me a Hakone Face mask. My boyfriend was not given though but they gave after i asked for it. Men do put face masks or skin care too! Such small gesture from Lalaca really makes guests happy and we do appreciate what was served to us. Onsen was great. We did the private onsen. We booked our timeslots by writing on the paper just outside the private onsen room. Do book early in case all slots are taken as the private onsen is only opened from 6pm. The staffs are mostly taiwanese and they are friendly.

Fantastic experience, great facilities and friendly mandarin staff”
We just want to give 1000+ likes to Hotel Lalaca & all the staff especially the Taiwanese staff. They were so friendly & helpful and made us feel like home. The location was great and nearby to Gora station but I would suggest you stop at “公园下” to avoid the slope. The Hotel served very delicious & tasty breakfast & dinner and portion is more than enough + worth of value. The staff were so caring to my children & specially arranged those food that they liked. The Hotel had given different local cookies & tibits at our room for 2 days. Little souvenir were also given to my children during check out. We will surely recommend this hotel to anyone who planned to visit Hakone.

Fantastic japanese hospitality”
We loved the quiet location in Hakone, the exceptionally friendly staff and the whole atmosphere in this Ryokan. The use of the Onsen in the evening was great for recovering from a day of sightseeing. The food prepared in the Lalaca alone is worth the stay - it is exceptionally well prepared and presented, with a lot of attention to every detail. I recommend to stay at least 2 nights to experience this Ryokan, the Onsen and the beautiful Hakone area.

Amazing Experience!”
Lalaca is a beautiful property in Hakone. We wanted to have a one night ryokan experience and this didn't disappoint. Room was huge! Kaiseki dinner was my favorite meal in all Japan (for 17 days!). Private onsen was also great to have. Would highly recommend!

memorable experience”
we love our stay in Lalaca, even it was only one night. food are great and delicious. Facilities are a bit old, but everything is clean and workable. Our room has a beautiful view to the mountain. The hot spring is very relaxing. The hotel is about 8 min walk from the Garo Station and at a bit top of hill so prepare for some walking exercise especially with luggage. With the price we paid as such, I won't hesitate to recommend it to anyone else!

Excellent value for a traditional Japanese experience”
We arrived after a short taxi from Gora station (it is a 5 minute walk, but is uphill) and the staff took our shoes, gave us slippers, and helped us to the room. They showed us the amenities and got us started with some green tea and red bean cakes. We wrote down a time for reserving the private Onsen for 30 minutes, which was perfectly located in a secluded outdoor area with a garden. When it was dinner time, they called our room and we arrived to a beautiful plate of food (on the adventurous side, but very good). The dinner lasted nearly 2 hours and I couldn't count the number of courses, it really is an incredible value for the money. We had a traditional style Japanese room and slept on mats, which were extremely comfortable with very cozy comforters. The view from the room was beautiful and you could open the window for the fresh mountain air. Breakfast was amazing as well and they held our luggage for us from checkout at 10AM until 2:30PM, leaving us time to explore Hakone before leaving. All in all, an amazing experience for the price.

Expected more from this Ryokan”
A bit of a disappointment at this price point. We chose Lalaca for the great reviews and pictures. The main hall looks like the pictures but the building is quite old. Rooms are nice, Onsen is just OK - mens one had a nice outside onsen but it closes at 7pm, as it "becomes" the "familly" onsen which is private and can be reserved for 30 minutes for each room and closes completely at 11pm as are the other 3 onsens (1 tub outside the women onsen and 2 indoor ones). Each day they also switch between the men and women onsens since they are not the same, be careful not to blindly walk into the onsen room from the night before, you might walk into the opposite gender... Food was the second reason we chose Lalaca - at this front the dinner was beautifully presented and although the taste did not live to our expectations, it was decent. The breakfast on the other hand was simply not tasty - every breakfast we had in Japan was better. The night after Lalaca we went to another hotel at fuji which cost half the price, and was much better in every aspect - including the onsen, food and price.

Excellent”
considered near the cable car station, vending machine on site, kiseiki dinner/breakfast is reasonable for price paid (hence, food is average quality), onsens are relaxing but have no view, private onsen doesn't have a bath area so had to go over to shared area to bathe, room is of a good size with complimentary green tea and biscuits and welcome gift of a facemask, sushi erasers. Slippers are uncomfortable, toiletries are all provided for and Japanese robes (sorry, forgot what they are called!) are provided as well. I tell you what I love, the luggage service - luggage can be sent to and from hakone-yamanote station which was fabulous luggage-free travelling --> need to pay but worth the $ seriously...take it! Just travel light with a tiny backpack :) Luv

Great stay!”
Great service, wonderful food (so much variety and nice plating), private onsen was good. Location wise, nicely placed at Gora, get the Pass and explore beautiful Hakone. As advised by the owner, do take the cable car from Gora (although it is just one stop) to avoid the steep slopes.

Accomodation with excellent service and good food”
It is a good experience for my family and myself. The location is good with transportation in walking distance. The service is first class. All staff has a good attitude in serving the customers, even to the young adults. Our room is not very big but enough spaces for everyone. The decorations are good, the area is clean and neat. Good free snacks and tea. Breakfast and dinner are good both appearance and taste. The environment is quiet and calm. My family and myself feel relax and comfortable for this accomodation.

Great food ..”
This was the second most expensive stay and one of many Japanese style beds. We put several matts down as they were the firmmest we eperienced. The rooms and hotel is a bit worn around the edges, but clean and comfortable. Other then the smoking room downstriars which leads to a strong smell of smoke when coming in and out of the onsen. The food was great...and the service was good. overall it was nice but slightly expensive...but that is also due to the high tourist area.

Love the hotel”
We really love this hotel. The place is beautiful and is near Gora station. All the staff is polite and friendly. The onsen is also big and you may book a private outdoor onsen during the night.

Spring”
We heed the advice from other traveller, to stop at Koen-Shimo to avoid the slope. Our stay was amazing! The staff were attentive and sweet. Kaiseki was served at common eating place, h/ever the food was so delicious! Yumm.. we loved our dinner and breakfast so much! The onsen was not crowded, so not so shy. We managed to book the private onsen which was pretty good outdoor onsen. Subarashii.. keep up the good job :)

Great place, great experience”
The hotel was great. The onsen and the massage facilities were amazing. We stayed all day in the hotel due to bad weather. But it was nice to stay in such a great place. It was really a great experience! We enjoyed it so much! For people who are anxious of doing onsen Japanese style, don't be! If you pick the right time, you have the onsen for yourself! It was amazing how private public bath and onsen can be :)
