Hidden gem in Hakone town”
I grabbed a deal last minute for this hotel and didn’t expect much. However, this hotel is so different to other hotels I stayed in Japan. To me, it is like emerging in Japanese culture while staying here. Good point: - The breakfast is so yummy, but if you want a good seat looking out of the windows with beautiful leaves, do make sure you arrive early when they open the buffet (around 7AM). Me myself was checking out the Onsen, and 8AM when I arrived, the restaurant is packed. - Some very interesting facilities (to a foreigner like me): the reclining chairs room (I always think if they can relax and watch movie/sleep in their hotel room, why they need to go to the “Reclining chair room” to do all that. - The Onsen here has a very nice outdoor bath. I went in the autumn, when I arrived at the bath, I was looking at the forest full of red and yellow leaves while soaking in the hot water. It was so zen. - Outside of this hotel there is a part that the river runs pass by. Make sure to check it out, you can take nice pictures with your Yukata and the scenery. Points to considered: - The hotel is quite a walk a bit up-hill (15 mins) from the station, so if you have big luggages, arrive a bit early so you can enjoy the scenery (not when it’s super dark like me). - Check-out before 10AM, before 10AM it is super crowded, you can still keep your key and stay in the room. At 10AM you can put your key in a box at the reception, no need to be in line to wait to check out. - Check-in process is quite long, so if you arrive around 5pm-6pm like me (when most visitors arrive), you will have to wait quite a bit

Worth it”
The hotel makes for a very relaxing stay, and the in-room baths are wonderful. The onsen upstairs is beautiful (even the men's bath!) But the bathroom therein smells horrific and has signs of mold. However, this was a very small problem as this room is avoidable and shared. The garden space is an activity worth doing in of itself, and the waterfalls are beautiful. Fantastic stay, would recommend. Just use your own bathroom.

Good”
Good breakfast and dinner buffet . However , there is just too many people e.g. day trip onsen. The whole lobby in a mess. The reception do not speak English , we booked a room with shower but he gave us a room without shower , didn't apologise for that extra trip we made down to the lobby . Overall , would recommend you to book the room with inroom onsen (was fully booked during my period)

Fair”
- the shower room wasn't cleaned thoroughly as public hair was found. - the water control of the onsen bath has no English instructions so hard to use properly. - Other than that this onsen hotel is ok so far: * Staff is great and helpful. * Breaskfast and Dinner buffet are decent and ok. * ambient is relaxing, the outdoor park is nice. * Convenience is ok, not too far from the train station, a relaxing walk to the station. The size of the room we stayed is ok for a small family. * Bedding is comfortable. * Lots of snacks provided in the room. * sound proof is ok, quite in the room.

Perfection”
From the Hakone-Yumoto Station, you can use the overpass bridge to cross the street. There is a Tourist information office there. In front of the tourist info office is a bus stop for min-bus A, B & C. Bus A is going to Hotel Tenseien and will cost 100 yen per person (as of May 2016) and will take about 15 min., mostly because of the traffic because the streets are very narrow. We walked one night from Hakone-Yumoto to Hotel and it took us about 20 min. I think that was around 9:30pm and there’s no more Bus A… The bus stop for Bus A going back to Hakone-Yumoto station is just outside the hotel. Very convenient. Before the main hotel entrance is a bridge and a river…very cool! The Hotel is amazing. It’s very clean. Shoes are not allowed anywhere inside the hotel. There are shoe cabinets by the entrance and you must keep the keys. The room is big for japan standard. The toilet is a bit small. Our room window is facing the waterfalls…nice view. They provide Yukata (robe) for everyone so you get that Japanese feeling. They have slippers for everyone to use whenever you want to explore the garden, the shrine, around the pond and if you want to enjoy the beauty of the 2 waterfalls…..again, amazing view. They have a 24-hour shop. They have I think 24-hour Onsen on the rooftop which is the best! The amenities are great! They have steam-bath, Sauna, indoor and outdoor onsen….yes on the roof top…under the sky…under the stars.I want to go back now. They have relaxation room and they provide massage services. This place is totally the most relaxing hotel I have ever been. The Food is good. The breakfast selection is huge. We had ala-carte dinner and the sushi and soba noodles are good. The service is also good. Free wifi. Staffs can speak english well.

International 5-Star Hotel Standard”
An absolutely fantastic hotel – the best we stayed at in Japan! The room rate is a bit higher than surrounding hotels, but it is completely worth it, as the room was the largest we saw in Japan, with a well-appointed bathroom with everything you could need (shampoo, conditioner skin lotion, toothbrushes & shaving razors, etc). The main feature of this hotel is the array of ‘onsen’ (natural hot mineral spring baths) & 2 saunas on the hotel roof, including 5 ‘rotenburo’ (outdoor baths with different Japanese-themes) with beautiful views of the mountains during the day, & starry skies during the night. You could spend the whole day & night here. We felt completely relaxed & refreshed during & after our stay. They have a wonderful ‘Eat-All-You-Can’ breakfast buffet at ¥1,500 & an ‘Eat-All-You-Can’ international dinner buffet at ¥6,000 – which is great value & very reasonable for Japan. We actually had the dinner buffet (fantastic!), & had to get a refund on our breakfast buffet coupons the next morning because we were still full after dinner last night. We were totally satisfied with Tenseien Hotel, & will definitely stay there again, the next time we are in Hakone!!

Great Onsen hotel, Tenseien is a must stay ”
Tenseien is located about 15 mins walk from Yumoto Hakone station. It is not very hard to find. We went in late winter so it was a pleasant walk from the station to the hotel. For people who're afraid of cold, I suggest you can take bus across the station in front of the tourist center. The hotel has great onsen facilities. Ranging from private, to family, to communal. The hotel room is big (one of the biggest I have tried in Japan) for 2 of us. Hotel also serves great food. So if you're looking for a chill and relaxing trip, Tenseien is a must try hotel.

1 night in Hakone”
We are glad we chose to stay at Hakone Tenseien Hotel. The Hotel is a bit of a walk from the train station but easy to find. The Hotel had everything we needed. We had a fantastic meal at the Hotel restaurant, the waiters were very friendly. We also booked out a private onsen for one hour which was great and very easy to organise with staff. We had a very relaxing and enjoyable stay.

Beautiful ryokan at pocket preserving prices”
Stayed for one night. Was completely blown away. Location - it's situated in the town of Hakone-Yumoto, which in my opinion, is the best place to stay in Hakone as it is bustling with quaint shops offering lots of Hakone tidbits, souvenirs and restaurants. Just a 5 min shuttle bus (Take ryokan shuttle bus A when you exit the station, drops you at doorstep of Tenseien) from the Hakone-Yumoto station. Alternatively, when you're not struggling with baggage, it's a lovely 10 min walk. Service - as with most Japanese establishments, impeccable. It had just rained when we arrived and our luggage was wet from the rain. The bellhop wiped dry our luggage down to the wheels. Rooms - clean and beautiful. I fell asleep to the sound of rushing water from the river next to the ryokan. Facilities - there was an outdoor onsen with a Panaromic view. Just breathtaking. The temperature of the onsen was just right too, not too hot. Imagine taking a dip in the onsen, and all around you are lush mountains and the endless sky. I spotted a few eagles? or hawks? as I was luxuriating in the onsen. There was also a mini waterfall, a shrine and garden all within the ryokan premises. To top it off, there is a 24 hr Family Mart for drinks and late night snacks. Definitely heading back if I'm back to Hakone.

excellent cultrure experience with japanese onsen”
It was a great unforgettable stay, a true Japanese culture experience. The whole hotel is designed to create a family atmosphere. Before entering the lobby, shoes need to be removed and stored in shoe locker (like going to a Japanese home). A yukata is provided for guest to wear when walking around the hotel including lobby. The lobby is big, well designed and surrounded by a beautiful Japanese garden. The restaurant sitting has Japanese style. There were some confusion in previous reviews about use of slippers. The slippers are not for use to walk inside the hotel. It is to use when you go to the garden or walk outside the building, for example, take a photo in front of the hotel. For dinning in the hotel, we didn't go to buffet, but ordered from menu. It was a very reasonable price in a 4-star accommodation comparing to other Hakone Japanese restaurants. Great hotel and great experience. We will stay again next time if we visit Hakone again.

Excellent Onsen Hotel”
Had a wonderful experience at Hakone Tenseien. The hotel was modern yet quaint with all the convenience you can find of modern day hotels combined with the traditional japanese setting. The onsen experience was wonderful; not to crowded, wonderful rooftop view and all the amentities you would ever require in the public bath, all of which made my hakone trip unforgetable. My only regret of my Hakone trip was not being able to exten d my stay at Tenseien!

Great Onsen”
Hakone Tenseien is a great hotel, however the location of the hotel is located at a distance from Hakone Yumoto station. Large luggages will not be easy to drag to the hotel. Shuttle bus does not cater to travellers with large luggage. Other than the location, Hakone Tenseien is a great place to visit.

Fantastic”
This was our first stay in Hakone and staying at the Hakone Tenseien was a wonderful experience. We got the full lboard and the food was good. Everything was clean, the onsen experience was authentic, the staff was friendly, and everything was included. There was a nice outdoor garden with waterfalls in the back of the property as well.

Great location, room and price”
I traveled to Hakone with friend. We left Tokyo right after work and arrived at the hotel around 8pm. The hot spring is open 23 hours, so we were able to drop our stuff off in the room and head straight for the baths. The hot springs were really nice. There was plenty of room and variety in the outdoor baths. Our room was small but we had enough room to move around and relax. The room was clean and had nice amenities like tea, snacks, face lotion, socks, etc. The hotel is also about a 12 minute walk from Yumoto station and just off the main shopping street. It was easy to get around on foot. At lunch time there are plenty of noodle shops, but in the evening there are very few restaurants open. We ended up taking the 15 minute train ride into Odawara to eat one night. Overall, it was an excellent hotel, and I would definitely stay here again if I go back to Hakone.

Clean, beautiful onsen”
While the hotel was a bit difficult to find by car as the road it's on looks like an alley off a main road and goes further into the mountains, it's a quick, 10-minute walk to stores and shops and from the train station. The room my mother and I were given smelled a bit musty, but opening the window for a few hours took care of that. Everything was very clean and the atmosphere was so relaxing! They had 5-6 different patterns to choose from when you get a yukata to wear. They were all beautiful and we fun with a mini photoshoot outside our room! Passing staff were lovely and offered to take a picture of us. We came to the Tenseien for their onsen and weren't disappointed. Many different pools to soak in, and best of all, one that was on the outside edge overlooking the mountain. If it hadn't been raining, we would've spent hours there. Breakfast buffet was alright. A few good dishes, but very Japanese: a lot of cold food beside a light soup/porridge or two. Everything was beautifully presented.

Big Hotel with Buffet, with convenient location”
Hokone Tenseien Hotel is a large scale hot spring hotel. Its location is very convenient which takes you only about 15 misn walking from the JR station. Shuttle bus is also available for every 30 mins, costing 100 yen per person. The hotelspring inside the hotel is marvellous. Dinner and breakfast buffet are available at the hotel which are delicious and with great variety of food. It is indeed a relaxing place for tourists.

Need to Kaizen”
Good hotel and can be better. Suggestions for Kaizen (improvements): 1) Room is clean and comfortable. The pillow has a special design that it can be adjusted to high / low and hard / soft... I love their pillows! There is limited place to hang clothes and towels, hope this can be improved. Various hair care and skin care products are provided incl. facial cleanser foam and milk, great! 2) I went to the hotel onsen for girls (6th floor) but couldn't see Mt Fuji. I'm guessing maybe only hotel onsen for boys (7th floor) has the Mt Fuji view. It would be great if girls too can get the Mt Fuji view. 3) We consulted the reception at check-in counter how to get to Gotemba premium outlet and quite disappointed they didn't really know. We'd like to suggest hotel to prepare some helpful guidelines what public transports, time & cost for visiting tourists spots eg. Gotemba premium outlet, Moto-Hakone - cruise to Souzan - Gora - Hakone Yumoto. The transport costs are much cheaper if we buy the Hakone Free Pass, which we only find out from the brochures we took at the Hakone-Yumoto station after study it in detail. 4) Their buffet breakfast and dinner are delicious and quite a good variety. It will be better if they can change some of the dishes so that we don't eat the same thing everyday (for those who stay for more than a day). On our 2nd night, we were surprised that they prepared special addition food for us. We'd appreciate if we are informed because we almost missed it thinking we are going to have same food same cooking for dinner again. On our 2nd morning, we were not given any special additional food, just eat the same buffet with the 1st day. All in all, a nice comfortable stay! With some improvements, this hotel will be superb!!
