Beautiful Japanese style hotel”
Beautiful hotel in Japanese style, located near the old town of Gion (roughly 15 mins walk). We took the Japanese Style room and were not disappointed. The futons werecomfortable and sleeping was a great experience. The room itself is designed beautifully too and has very good amenities. It is also very big for Japanese standards! Great Sake tasting session on Saturday! Hotel staff is very friendly, welcoming and helpful. The staff is very international so if your English is not good, there is high chance the Thanks to Simon for all the tips and recommendations! From the lowlights: Wi-Fi was quite weak, my phone kept disconnecting in the room. We have not tried the Japanese breakfast, but the continental breakfast is quite poor. The main problem in my opinion is that most of the rooms are facing quite a busy road where the cars are passing by frequently. It's quieter during the night. But if you are a light sleeper, I suggest bringing earplugs. These should do the work.

Exceptional experience”
Highly recommend for those who want an immersive Kyoto experience. It's a newer ryokan (built in 2015 I believe) so it's spotless clean and modern in terms of amenities. Location is ideal as well -- many of the major tourist sites are within 15-30 minute walk (two subway stations, 10 and 15 minute walk away) I highly recommend reserving a maisonett on the 5th floor, which has a upstairs sitting area with a peaceful, albeit tiny, garden, and access to private bath is also free. Check out rooftop bar while there. But beware you'll be sleeping on floor tatami mats, not advisable for those who like to sleep on soft beds; hotel does offer extra mats for free if one doesn't do it. One other advise, close second door when going to sleep. It really helps with hallway noise. Oh, there is no TV but good WiFi.

Romantic Get Away in Japan”
We had a wonderful stay at Kyomachiya Ryokan Sakura in Kyoto. We chose the traditional Japanese-style room. The bedding was more comfortable than the 4-star Japanese-style room we stayed at the night before. The breakfast was great! Really tasty. We tried both the Japanese breakfast & Western breakfast and they were both good. We also really liked the service. We had our bags forwarded onto our next hotel at a very reasonable cost and didn't need to lug them to the train station. They didn't have any activities or cultural workshops available during our stay there but were very helpful in suggesting things to do in the area. Location was good and within 10min walking distance from Nishiki Market (with lots of shops and restaurants). Would definitely recommend.

Nice ryokan in excellent location”
My wife and I spent 5 nights here in Kyoto this January, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff was very helpful (especially with restaurant reservations) and spoke perfect English (as well as many other languages, as they had a uniquely international range of employees). The room was small but clean and comfortable, and the shower was great. Best part was the central location, with an easy walk to the Kyoto subway and Keihan rail line, as well as destinations such as Gion, Pontocho, Teramachi shopping street, and Nishiki Market. We also took full advantage of the rental (~500 yen) of private hot tubs after our long days of walking through the temples and streets of Kyoto. Highly recommended for those of us with old bones!

Very welcoming staff, nice rooms, and great location.”
We really liked this place. It's kind of a mix between a hotel and a traditional ryokan, which worked really well for us. We stayed in one of the special rooms with the extra upstairs loft area. Everything was very clean and comfortable. The staff were very nice and helpful. They recommended restaurants and made a dinner reservation for us. We had the breakfast one morning and that was a nice experience also, We would stay here again! One note, the traditional mats are a bit hard to sleep on, but they did have a foam pad for my boyfriend when he requested one. :)

Absolutely exquisite ”
I couldn't have loved every single moment of our stay here anymore. It was incredible. The staff was attentive, kind, and prompt, the stone bath you could reserve was phenomenal. Our room was adorable and impeccably clean. We loved EVERYTHING. The food served was superb as well. Really, just an amazing place. I hope to go back someday.❤

Cleanest hotel I have been to in my life ”
I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Kyoto! So cute and extremely clean! Loved my stay at this ryokan made my trip to Japan even more rememberable. Even tried the Japanese breakfast and it was amazing! Best hotel in my 2 week trip to Japan! Thank you!

Beautiful hotel and wonderful room. Loved the option to set up futons to sleep on tatami mats; sliding doors and wood details in the room are gorgeous. Shower with private “onsen” tub was awesome. Helpful, friendly staff. Good location; about a 10-15 minute walk to the Gion-Shijo, Shijo and Kawaramachi Stations. Lots of nearby restaurants. Did laundry for 500 yen. Great staff. Would stay here again if we ever return to Kyoto.

Cosy, clean, good service and good location”
The staff was very nice and helpful. It was fun to sleep some nights in japanese style at futon on the floor. They have bathtub for 1hour rental for 500yen, we did it twice, it was really nice after long day of tourism and walking. Great location.

Everything was good. we stayed this place for 3days. Staff are very thoughtful and nice. they can speak English. they were really care about our baby. especially when we ate breakfast. good location with good price.

Nice hotel! Great place to stay when in kyoto”
The hotel is really close to the train station. Staff is really friendly and all of them speak english. We stayed on a maisonette and the room was gorgeous and had a complimentary tea ceremony. The hotel has multiple activities and all the common areas are really nice! We really enjoyed our time there and would definetly return to it.

Such an Experience!”
The private hot bath was the best 500 yen I've ever spent. The traditional japanese room with futons was an experience all by itself nevermind leaving the room. The staff are all wonderfully kind and extra helpful. They also speak excellent english. Loved it. Would stay again.

Great traditional and comfy ryokan! ”
Pros: - allows you to experience ryokan style (I chose to sleep in the Japanese traditional room) - pretty comfortable (I even slept in through my schedule for the day lol) - has private hot tub u can book which is really comforting after a full day of walking - staff speaks English well! Cons: NA - it was a great experience! Things that stood out include: - nice design of lobby / hallway - private hot tub that was very onsen-like - great traditional looking rooms!

Nice Ryokan atmosphere”
GREAT staff. Good breakfast. Nice ryokan experience for a fraction of the price. Ask for an extra mattress to sleep on the floor and it’s really comfortable. Other reviews mention “paper thin” walls. I think if you have extra loud neighbors you might be bothered, but we didn’t hear anything. Had a really nice stay!

For those seeking an authentic and reasonably priced ryokan”
Your Kyoto experience isn't complete if you don't include a stay in one of its traditional guesthouses aka ryokans. This one ticks all the boxes when it comes to location, room ambience and customer service. We were well taken care of by the hotel staff and appreciated the neat cultural touches both in the ryokan's lobby and our room interiors (no spoilers, you'll have to experience it for yourself). Like other reviewers have mentioned, the traditional Japanese breakfast is a must, and if you're lucky you'll get to attend events like a sake tasting (for a fee). We loved our stay here and would highly recommend it!

Great place to experience Japanese culture”
Kyomachiya Ryokan has an charm of Japanese culture (the interior, the room, the tea ceremony), yet still offer modern amenities such as lift, sky bar. The staff are all equally great. They were well trained and spoke very good English, showing great hospitality. Definitely will come back when staying in Kyoto.

Kyomachiya Ryokan Sakura - Urushitei is a nice beautiful Ryokan hotel .The staffs are so friendly, helpful, cheerful and proud of the hotel brand. I can not thank them enough for making our stay so memorable, i truly recomend this hotel to everyone.
