A beautiful room in the best location”
The room was beautiful. The futon was so comfortable and the entire room was pristine. It's in the BEST location. Right near the shrines and temple. It was magical. And the staff are very kind.

Great stay at a Ryokan”
Loved the friendly communication from the staff, and the free ride up the hill when we accidently tried to check in at the (wrong) sister hotel. We loved our experience; especially our room, the access to the Onsen and the lovely (gorgeously prepared) food. We also loved having access to shopping for local goods in the foyer, and the accessibility on foot from here to the local attractions.

Hotel location is great. It is close to the all the heritage site seeing locations. Staff is very nice and helpful. The lady provided us a map showing all walking distances to all heritage locations. We dropped off our luggage in the morning and tour around the area. When we were back around 4pm, the room is ready and our luggage is already in our room. Japanese kaiseki dinner and breakfast were good experience. Onsen is great. The hotel also provides shuttle service to the train station.

really loved the experience here. close to place of interest. onsen was lovely. kaiseki dinner was superb with all natural ingredients. breakfast was hearty. will definitely visit again.

Very friendly staff and a very good option if you want to live more like the Japanese do. However you might probably need earplugs as the rooms are poorly soundproof.

Excellent services, very considerate staffs”
The staffs are so caring, we happenned to buy some instant noodles from vending machine there and they proactively setting up the hot water jug and even poured the hot water for us, at other hotel I think they will only point you to the heater and let you solve it yourself. They also help setting up the traditional futon while we eat. About the onsen, they provide 1 standing shower section for you who found the sitting shower at onsen is not comfortable. They have indoor and outdoor pool, very relaxing.

Have Onsen ”
The price is not that high, but we can get Ryokan style room, Japanese breakfast and can enjoy the onsen. Lobby is also big and quite cozy. The staff are really helpful and accomodating.

The feeling of nostalgia in Japanese traditional environment”
I was there solo traveling five years ago. This time, it's my honeymoon trip. The room is SPACIOUS (can even fit a small family - next time I want to go there with my future kids=)) and it has been refurbished, the position of the toilet is near the entrance (and of course it has a comfy warm seat). The living room changes magically into a bedroom just by making up futons (and fluffy blankets!). The back part of the room has windows to view nature with 2 chairs and a table, and in the corner, there's a sink and mirror. Two things when you need to go out from this cozy room are taking a bath (there's a decent indoor and outdoor onsen) and dining. We ordered dinner there and it was extravagant! Apparently it was (still) New Year's menu. All the staff are seniors and very friendly but professional. Owh, I haven't mentioned what I like the most staying in this ryokan... they always hand-write your full name and put it on the board near the lobby and on the shoe shelf. End by force.lol

Location, food, facilities great for budget Ryokan”
Don’t need to add a child’s meal. You can share and there is definitely enough. They provide kid bike and also rice. Family onsen needed repair and cleaning. But male and female onsen were nice. The basic room was nice and with a toilet. A few items a little run down and I’d preferred a little more cleanliness in the bathroom. But given location, onsen, food, staff, it really was a great value for a Ryokan. The staff only ideal JP but you can work it all out with google translate.

Good choice if you plan to explore Nikko city and just stay couple of nights, not a good choice if you would like to experience onsen, hot spring facilities are limited, the hygiene of the public bath needs to improve. One more thing, you can hear exactly what people are talking and laughing next door.

Nice place, public airing onsen but there’s not much people so it look like a very private onsen. And near the temple of Nikko, by walk about 10 minutes.

Ryokan Tokanso”
The location Is great. 3 mins walk to Nikko National Park. The staff is also courteous. The room we had was clean but some part of the ryokan i believe could use some cleaning and organizing and the family onsen could use a renovation.
