Mom and Daughter”
King and Yumi san are both very friendly and helpful. Upon arrival, both will sit the guests down, whereupon, Yumi san will serve a nice hot cup of green tea. Then King will patiently go through the housekeeping rules. He then suggests places to go & where to eat in the area. The bathtub is always filled with clean hot water for a good soak. However, because there is a curfew for the usage of the bathroom. We always have to rush and make sure we get back in time after sightseeing to get our shower/bath before the curfew. The communal washing area (for brushing teeth/washing face) are always supplied with disposable toothbrushes/shavers and cotton buds. The only thing that was unpleasant are the toilets smell because of the 2 squat toilets they have there. There is always drinking water, coffee/tea sachets in the dining area to quench the thirst. We were on the top floor where the windows open to a little ledge which is quite nice. Everyday we were given clean Yukatas and towels.

Fantastic Traditional Ryokan”
We loved our stay at Hinode Ryokan. It is a beautiful 130 year old traditional Japanese Inn. A wonderful experience. Beautiful room with garden terrace. Lovely small onsen suitable for a couple or for one person. Free tea and coffee. Close to bus station and train station. Close to shops and restaurants. Very quiet location. Wonderful hosts. We felt very welcome. Yumi and Myhiro (hope the spelling is correct) were lovely and very helpful. I would highly recommend this Ryokan if you want a traditional Japanese experience. Thank you so much Hinode Ryokan our stay with you made us very happy.

Amazing stay at this beautiful Ryoken”
We loved our stay in the Hinode Ryoken - we think it is a must for tourists to experience the more traditional Japanese way of living. The owners were lovely, and the Ryoken has a lovely feel to it. The bath was a lovely extra touch, if you don't have time to go to an onsen the bath is a great alternative! The Ryoken is less than 10 min walk from Odawara and has lots of restaurants nearby. We would happily recommend the Hinode Ryoken to our friends and family.

A new experience”
A true Japanese style house, having antique flavor. You can feel the old Japanese culture. Bathroom and toilet are independent, the Bath is a stone bath. They are very comfortable. The host is a friendly and nice talker, he speaks English very clear. I very suggest everybody come here well have a special Japanese experience.

Comfortable historic immersion”
We stayed here one night between Tokyo and Kyoto. Amazing property with very old floors and traditional paper walls. It’s a building that you feel you should respect when you enter, especially because some things are fragile. The owners were very welcoming and we easily communicated in English. You do have to share a bath/shower room, but it has an amazing stone tub to soak in (after you wash), and it was one of the more memorable baths I’ve taken! Definitely felt like a traveler in the old days.

Thank you for your stay and message. We're so glad that you enjoyed traditional Japanese house at your stay. The bathroom was renovated three years ago. The bathtub made of Shigaraki pottery warms the body more. It's one of the pride of our Ryokan. Our pleasure is you had a nice stay at our Ryokan. We look forward to seeing you again.
Amazing traditional Japanese experience”
The hosts were as kind as can be. The ryokan was beautiful, conveniently located to restaurants and the train, and gave us the traditional experience we wanted to have. It could be a culture shock for the stereotypical American tourist expecting a run of the mill hotel (shared bathroom, thin walls, small room), but I would urge those tourists to keep an open mind because we would go back in a heartbeat. So beautiful and over 100 years of business! Can't recommend this ryokan more highly.

Exceptional”
Super! We enjoyed staying at this traditional ryokan. King Kong and Yumi were lovely. Sat is down over tea and explained the house rules and gave us great tips for nearby eats and attractions. Walls are thin and the bathrooms are shared. All part of the authenticity.

Nice place. Definitely got the traditional feeling from this place. Was a good experience. Also sleeping on the floor was better then i expected. They give you traditional clothing to wear around the property and wear wooden thongs. The room was small and walls are thin so noise does spread to your neighbors. i guess this is part of the experience. toilet and entry curfew exist which was not too much of a problem for us but can be an issue for some. shared bathroom and only 1 tiny sitting toilet. and showers. Highly recommend for the experience.

Great stay and experience.”
The ryokan is very well maintained with friendly staff and owner. Conveniently located a short walk away from the train station, shopping area and places to eat, it is also in a very nice a quiet neighborhood. Can also walk to Odawara castle nearby. And it's also a great place to start exploring Hakone. Just sad the ropeway was down during our short stay. But we enjoyed the scenery there all the same.

Love this place, the staff, warm hospitality & traditional setting”
Located within few minutes from the train station it is a very nice looking traditional japanese house. I were greeted with very friendly host & served with a hot tea. They were very friendly & even teach me how to properly wear my Yukata, which is free too & plus they even have a hot bath :)

Exceptional”
I didn't feel too unsafe about my luggage being in the front luggage room as I have a lock on my luggage and there aren't lots of people staying there. I liked the architecture and layout of the building, the frame was made of tree trunks and branches instead of being cut down to timbers. I was told it's like 180 years old, so you can experience some traditional Japan. The floors are very creaky. My room was clean and quiet even though there were other people staying in adjacent rooms. I'd stay there again.

Simple Accommodation, Well Located”
I needed a short notice bed for the night and stumbled upon Hinode Ryokan on Agoda. If you are looking for luxury and modern conveniences then you will be disappointed: if you are excited by the prospect of a traditional Japanese lodge then you will be happy with your choice! Hinode Ryokan was completely beyond my previous experiences of Japan and I am so pleased I made the choice to stay here. The staff were exceptionally friendly and did all they could to make me feel comfortable and at home. The room is simple and traditionally Japanese: few mod cons but for me, on this occasion it didn’t matter. Located just 5 minutes walk from the station the hotel is easy to find and there are lots of bars and restaurants close by too. I’ve stayed in far more expensive hotels that have not been as good as this on the “total experience” front. If you are looking for a traditional Japanese place, reasonably priced, this might be for you.

Too close to the train station!”
This is a fabulous Ryokan with excellent service and friendly staff. However we found it difficult to find a restful sleep due to the proximity of the Ryokan to the Odawara train station.

Nice experience. ”
No way of locking our room (sliding panel as door), so need to keep valuables with you. Large bath was great. Must take turns, but it was wonderful. We were able to leave our luggage there after checkout, but I was rather surprised it was not ok to use the toilet when picking up the suitcases. I had to wait till I carried the suitcases to the railway station & use the toilet there! The owners and staff were polite and attentive. We enjoyed the traditional feel.

Not the best but a very traditional house”
Pros: This is a very traditional place. You will feel like you are living in the Imperial days of Japan. The inside is nice and you get a traditional robe (Yukata). They provide a TV and toothbrushes. Cons: The upstairs room smelled like smoke. We asked for a non-smoking room as we have asthma but it still smelled like smoke. The owners are accommodating at first but they were not at check out. They asked us to pay more for staying past check out by 5 minutes. We got all our stuff out before check out but we just needed to use the toilet and bathroom and they still charged us for staying 1 hour over. Also, if you need your stuff, you have to store big luggage in a room as you can't keep it in the room. Also, there is only shared shower and toilet facilities. If that is your thing. Summary: While the place is very good and traditional, the owners were not flexible with us and the room smelled like smoke even when we requested a non-smoking room.

Experiencing traditional japanese inn”
Very good location, withing walking distance to the station and the restaurants. Toliets are quite smelly at a certain time, only one bathroom for the whole inn. Friendly host with good knowledge of the area.
