I booked Tsuruya Ryokan for my parents-in-law(60's couple) who from the overseas to visit my home town. To be honest I was worried about if they could feel comfortable for few nights, however they absolutely loved there and had a wonderful experience. Especially they were really happy to sleep on the western style low bed instead Futon bed on the floor, which made the elder couples body relaxed. Actually another traditional hotels did not have an option of the bedroom so I think this bedroom is a really nice advantage for Tsuruya. Moreover, this traditional hotel had an amazing customer service as Japanese style but very flexible to the foreigner guests all the time indeed. I already knew that this hotel has a very high reputation within my local area people, but I evidentially know they give a great atmosphere and hospitality to all of us, even international people. I super recommend there!

One of the best onsen Ryokan I've been ”
Great value. Tendo is probably not that famous outside yamagata, but we enjoyed spending 2 nights there. The Ryokan is beautiful. Inner garden, lots of seating (including massage chairs) to relax outside the room. Indoor/outdoor onsen is clean, relaxing. Room is spacious and modern Japanese style, with proper beds rather than tatami on the floor. Food was amazing. Staff was friendly and helpful. Informed us of free shuttle bus to ginzan onsen and yamadera, both well worth visiting.

Good ryokan with nice breakfast and dinner”
The hotel is quiet and good enough for relaxing. The room size is big but quite old. Some dust on the floor and under the bed. Need to be cleaned. Dinner and breakfast were nice. We asked them to serve dinner in our room but they refused. If you prefer to have dinner in your room then choose other ryokan. Onsen is small but still ok. Overall the price is quite high compare to what we expected to have during our stay.

Pick up from Tendo Station in an Alphard”
Our first Ryokan stay in Japan and it was truly relaxing. Booked the 7:30am breakfast slot but woke up bit late (thanks to the cozy bed), breakfast was laid out in our private area, the waitress lit up the fire to heat up the soup. I left my flusk in the ryokan but the driver was kind enough to send us back to retrieve it. Managed to get on the train on time and headed to Ginzan Onsen~ Thank you for such a memorable Ryokan stay. Oh, the onsen was lovely, both the indoor and outdoor onsen.

Hohoemino Kuyufu Tsuruya ryokan was so nice and the staff were incredibly nice. This is a great option for those looking for a traditional-style stay. The onsen was so clean and relaxing and the breakfast was delicious. I would definitely recommend this to others and would stay again. Did I mention about the staff? Of course I did but it bears repeating that they were so professional and kind. Love this place

The Staff were Amazing!”
Even though it was a little hard to converse with the staff since no one was fluent in English, everyone did their best. They either had their phones to translate or had the pocketalk gadget. They were also the ones who booked for us for our trip to Zao Monsters and Ginzan Onsen so it was breeze. The place was beautiful and was so relaxing. Onsen is open from 5am-10pm. Men/women are separate since you will not wear anything inside. The room have a tub so even if you don't want to go to the public onsen you can still enjoy a bath in the comfort of your room. Although I still recommend going to the onsen to enjoy some indoor/outdoor bath. Also, since this is a traditional ryokan, you will take off your shoes at the door. However, they will provide you with socks and a kimono you can wear inside the premises. For me, it just adds uniqueness to the place. Highly recommended!!

綺麗で細かいところも配慮されておりとても良い旅館でした。料理も大変美味しかったです。 ただ、地域共通クーポンがアゴダでは電子クーポンで出ていない事を把握していらっしゃらなくて、連絡したのですが対応していただけませんでした。私の方もきちんとわかっていなかったのでしょうがないですが。今後のお客様には紙クーポンで出されるようお願いします。
