UNPLAN Shinjuku
Shinjuku,Shinjuku - View on map
"I stayed at UNPLAN Shinjuku for one week, and enjoyed my stay. It's much better than most other hostels because the design of the beds is similar to a capsule hotel, but each contains a small safe! The breakfasts are great and a very social environment. The staff provide a very Western-style service, so don't expect a traditional Japanese style service when interacting with staff. The walk from Shinjuku station is about 10-15 minutes, but you can use the entrance to the Shinjuku-sanchōme (S-2) subway station as an undercover shortcut to Shinjuku station. My only issues were: - The pillows provided are very lumpy and uncomfortable. - The safes were too small to fit a laptop. - While the bed capsules were great, they could not stop the sound of snoring, which made it very difficult to sleep most nights. Bring ear plugs!"

"Travelling solo made better with my atay in Imano! Probably the best hostel I have stayed! Very clean.. staff so friendly they are great in english!!! Location is the best!!! 10minute walk to the nearest station Shinjuku Samchome! So near Golden Gai and Donki shinjuku.. i had the time of my stay.. food everywhere.. my fave Sukiya is just a few hundred meters away! Beds are comfortable.. showers so clean!!! Even if we are 36 in a floor, I did not have a hard time with toilets and shower, it was available all the time!! Towel is 200 yen for your whole stay so it was good!!! Food at the ground floor is great! Try it!!! Overall I recommend this hostel to all!!! I Love Imano!!! "

UNPLAN Kagurazaka
Shinjuku,Shinjuku - View on map
"Very quiet and clean. Hostel staff was very nice and helpful. Included breakfast was pretty generous, definitely one of the more generous breakfast options I've had at a hostel even though it is quite simple (hard boiled eggs and toast with a free drink). The location is more in the residential sector of Shinjuku, so if you are looking to go out and party, this probably isn't the best choice. There is a really nice street with lots of restaurants and shops close by though. Private room with a balcony had a really nice view and the bathroom was quite nice too. "

Sophiearth Hostel
Shinjuku,Shinjuku - View on map
"The place is near a train station just a few meters from Higashi Shinjuku subway station. The free breakfast is acceptable (you get what you paid for). The owners are very nice and friendly, the rooms are okay for us since we're just there to sleep as most of the day you're outside. "

"Very hospitable and accomodating! Excellent room and facilities. Even though most of the staff can't speak English, I think it is still a wonderful experience talking with them."

Anime Hostel Astro Station
Shinjuku,Shinjuku - View on map
"Great location right next to the station (direct JR Yamanote line) with plenty of cheap places to eat nearby, brand new facilities. Comfortable beds, laid back atmosphere, Interesting concept, very much a work in progress for decorations (opened two months ago), but the owner wants to create a space for anime fans to be able to connect with. Had a chat with him before I left and it sounds very exciting, can definitely see the place evolve in the coming weeks and months. Even over the course of my stay, the owner and staff were buying manga and furnishings for the place. There's a language barrier, hence some of the frustrations from other reviews, but you can tell that the staff do care and are doing their best to improve. Place now includes locks and earplugs for the rooms as previous reviews suggested, so they're listening to feedback. Door locks are these tab stoppers that prevent them from sliding open. I was a bit skeptical at first, but had 0 issues over my 2 week stay. Staff are around during the day so it's very safe."
