Rooms are beautifully decorated and a fully stocked mini bar with the best complimentary biscuits we've ever had! The location is absolutely perfect, right in the heart of city. The room was spacious, light and clean. The bathroom area is open, so it would be weird if you were sharing with a friend or adult child rather than a loved one, but it was fine for us. There is mini bar with free soft drinks replenished daily, and the fridge itself is big enough to store your milk and breakfast supplies. My only gripe was that there is no guest laundry, only a stupidly expensive a laundry service. We used Bandbox laundry instead which was walking distance and an excellent service. There was slight confusion with our booking in the system which caused some minor hassles, but the staff never made it our problem. We would stay in Innside Manchester again and recommend it without hesitation.

Principal is one of the iconic building in Manchester, the interior design is comfy and classy. The breakfast is a buffet type and the variety is good. The room is modern and the ceiling is super high in my room. The location is very nice, it is just opposite to the Oxford road train station which you can connect to the Manchester airport. The room is modern and the ceiling is super high in my room. The location is very nice, it is just opposite to the Oxford road train station which you can connect to the Manchester airport. But if you consider the only shopping mall in Manchester City, "Arndale", is the Centre centre, then this hotel is a little bit far from there, but as Manchester downtown is not so big, it is still in a walkable distance of around 15-20 minutes. If you are a visitor of the University of Manchester, it is a good choice as it locates at the same road, Oxford road, of the university. Supermarkets such as TESCO and Sainsbury, mcdonalds, pizza express, Caffe Nero are available in 1-3 minutes walking distance. 10 minutes to the National express bus station where you can connect to many other cities of UK.

I booked the hotel originally because it was located close to the opera house. The hotel is beautiful, the room was clean and spacious, we were at the rear of the hotel with a view of the old Manchester central railway station which is now a convention centre. The staff were all friendly and our receptionist was lovely and chatty, check in & out was quick. I had requested an earlier check in and that was organised no problem. Will definitely be staying here next time I am in Manchester.

We had an executive suite which was very nice view a view of d the square (shame the windows weren't' properly cleaned on the outside. Everything seemed pretty new and up to date however we did see and ordinary room and did feel that these were dated and glad we had upgraded. I looks like the refurbishment of the Hotel is a work in progress and look forward to seeing it all completed to the same standard throughout (landings, staircases etc) and the standard bedrooms modernised.

I paid £30 for my room online, for which I received a room with tea and coffee making facilities, am emsuite of shower, sink and toilet, free soap, loo rolls etc, and a clean room with a telly on the wall, and a comfortable bed. I note other people's remarks about a shabby first impression, but it should be noted that the vast amount of money required to really do the place up would force the price to be significantly higher than it is, and if that happens The Merchant Hotel would lose its' niche as a cheap overnight stay and would be just another anonymous hotel in a crowded market. It's swings and roundabouts really, but the basics are all there as a cheap alternative. And the bloke on reception is really excellent.

Had a car park at the back, says it's limited, but we arrived at about 1pm on Saturday and there were plenty of spaces. Costs (c) £12 overnight parking which is way cheaper than NCP. Hotel have several with NCP. If their car park is full and u park at NCP, I get a 40% discount, which we coated after discount at around £35. So still better to use the hotel parking. Overall a great w/e and would stay again. Book early, to get a great deal - we booked in June for our January stay.

This is the second time I’ve used this hotel, while in Manchester for the football and this time I stayed two nights due to the train strike. The rooms are modern and clean though a bit on the small side. This hotel is in Canal st next to McTukys (great chicken & ribs) in the heart of the gay Village. Being straight you may thing that may be off putting but it’s not. No one will bother you so you just go about your business. I would definitely recommend this hotel for a short stay and will definitely stay again. They also have a special type of window to keep the noise out. Keith

I'll recommend taking taxi or Uber if your luggage is too much hassle. Hotel is at a very good location (next to Manchester Metropolitan Uni) so the place is always buzzing with people. There's a bus stop opp the hotel to take you straight to Old Trafford if you are planning to go there (buy the Day Trip bus tics to save money). Halal food is aplenty (takeaway Archies a few doors down) or about 5 to 6 more dine-in just opp the hotel nearer to the Uni. There's a big Tesco too around that area. Hotel stay comes with complimentary breakfast (just egg, bacon, bread) but it's not halal but we do come down every morning to drink coffee/tea/hot choc (there's a machine) and eat bread.

Night shift person on desk charged me for my booking a second time because he didn't understand that the system was showing a payment owed by booking agent, which was okay as mistakes happen, but he was v patronising and insistent when I said I had already paid. I had to argue about it the second time I came back to the desk to convince him. He did refund me in the end, but didn't apologise for repeatedly telling me I was wrong and giving me innacurate stories as to why (he didn't check the evidence I provided, and inaccurately told me I was confused about it, and had used booking.com!) , just showed me his screen. Morning desk staff made same mistake, but didn't just tell me I was wrong, rather immediately looked into it and quickly apologised once they checked why it was showing as unpaid with the manager. Women running the restaurant for breakfast was great, and got me a tea to go when she heard I was in a hurry, without me asking. Man running it night before was also v helpful.

After our night outs we availed ourselves of the 24/7 bar for a night cap. Though we ate out each evening, we noticed that a lot of people, particularly late arrivals, used the food service in the reception lounge, which also seemed to be 24/7. Unusual in my travel experience but a great idea. Checkout was also swift and efficient. In summary, thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was a far superior offering to some of the so called 4 Star Hotels we have experienced in our travels do far this year. Well done to Ibis and well done to the staff at Ibis, Portland Street, Manchester. We will return.

Thourally enjoyed our stay. I fell in love with the place as soon as I stepped inside, staff were great and rooms were very pretty - modern. I think this hotel is best for couples - there were very raunchy photos located on the floors which children may find offensive. This is a 2 star rated hotel but there was clean bedsheets and new towels everyday, the room itself had some "beauty marks" but it was clean and tidy so not much of a bother.
