There are three reasonable size 19th century hotels in Bristol for me the Avon Gorge Hotel has the biggest appeal still, not as plush as the Marriott,the AG has no swimming pool or gymnasium, but what it does have a fantastic view of the Avon Gorge (hence the name), the Suspension Bridge. Clifton the district where the hotel is situated has some very good restaura...There are three reasonable size 19th century hotels in Bristol for me the Avon Gorge Hotel has the biggest appeal still, not as plush as the Marriott,the AG has no swimming pool or gymnasium, but what it does have a fantastic view of the Avon Gorge (hence the name), the Suspension Bridge. Clifton the district where the hotel is situated has some very good restaurants and some interesting shopping . Ten minuets walk over the bridge is Ashton Court a reasonably large park. The rooms decor is very tired, but still in keeping with it's heritage. Not being a lover of the ultra modern sterile hotel chains accommodation this is by far a better alternative.

We did not expect the Ritz but we did experience some issue that could easily be rectified as follows ; 1) Our room (no 28) was ok in size for a one night stay but the carpet had to be seen to be believed, it was just worn out in places. The bathroom had a soap dispenser over the bath but if you sat in the bath facing the taps, the dispenser was impossible to reach! ...We did not expect the Ritz but we did experience some issue that could easily be rectified as follows ; 1) Our room (no 28) was ok in size for a one night stay but the carpet had to be seen to be believed, it was just worn out in places. The bathroom had a soap dispenser over the bath but if you sat in the bath facing the taps, the dispenser was impossible to reach! 2) Breakfast - when we came down at about 9.20 there did not seem to be anyone managing the sitting. One member of staff was mopping the floor. There were no cups/glasses for drinks, the hot water and coffee ran out and best of all was the toaster - this had a mind of its own and was totally useless.
