ok... i have tried every single hotel in halong bai bai chai and halong city. i know everything about the hsitory of novotel here and hows its managed. it was built to be a 5 star, but they couldnt in the end so its a 4 star. as ive said before, you can call it a 4.5 star hotel. the price is great and the rooms are comftable with good internet connection. the views are nice and staff are helpful. you are only about 200,000 dong away from halong city, and minutes walking to the bai chai beach and market area. having stayed at every hotel this is the best hotel in the area. the only other 2 hotels that are comparable in comfort and price that i would reccomend is saigon halong hotel and halong plaza hotel. make sure you ask for a sea view room when you check in, normally you always do anyway. dont stay in hotels on a boat, why would you want to do that and be stuck on it unless your doing nothing else but relax and happy to eat from the floating seafood market. novotel is just simply "comftable" for everything you want to do in halong bay. key feature - the bathroom. its difficult to find decent showers in vietnam, here you will feel like home

Great place, I'd stay there again. Great big room, comfortable bed, cleaning staff were excellent. Great view of Halong Bay when you stay in a bay view room. People smoke everywhere in the hotel though and as a westerner I wasn't prepared for that. The food was great. A few small things kept me from giving top marks all round - carpet wasn't clean, the sofa in my room not clean. The staff by the pool very slow to give service. And - get this - if you take a beer from the mini bar and then replace it, they still charge you because all the drinks in the minibar has stickers on them, so they know if you have replaced them! Not okay for a 5 star hotel. We made a real fuss and were let off in the end, but you shouldn't have to go through all that hassle in such a nice hotel. All in all though, a great place to stay, in can absolutely recommend it.

Ha Long hotel The hotel is rather nice with expansive rooms and humongous bathrooms and spa baths. Whilst the rooms are nicely appointed the carpet is from a 70’s casino... The hotel is in an excellent location right opposite the Sun World park with its ultra impressive cable car et al. The breakfast buffet is, as buffets go, same same. The food is plentiful and there are eggs to order, but the food kept in bay maries is cold, but nice enough. One thing I don’t get, and never do, is why they serve frozen, rock solid frozen butter....??? We used the pool, which is nice enough, however it is extremely dangerously slippery around the perimeter when wet. Ergo it is always wet so always slippery and always extremely dangerous..... As for the massage and spa treatment, do NOT bother. The girls are not trained and it was the absolute worst experience ever...!!!

We booked several rooms and travelled in a large group with children. Hotel is located on the quiet end of Ha Long Road, a couple kilometres to night market & "main street" (way overpriced and overrated), around 20 minutes walk or just catch a taxi for less than AUD$2. Hotel lobby is wonderfully massive with a welcoming fruit drink when you arrive at reception. A fruit basket, coffee/tea/chocolate and bottled water is complimentary in your room. Features: electronic key entry, remote control lighting/in-room radio & alarm clock, slippers, bathrobes, iron, hair dryer, huge comfortable bed with white linen and very clean bathroom with separate tub & shower... Superior King room is very spacious, plenty of room for our baby to share the bed and crawl around. There's a gym and sauna, outdoor pool and two restaurants on separate floors. We had buffet dinner at the hotel's Four Seasons Restaurant on ground floor - very decent selection of food & drinks, & buffet breakfast next day (included in booking fee) again good variety and restaurant staff were great. We spoke Vietnamese to staff so they were always helpful with our enquiries, unsure about their english so cannot comment. We suggest researching before booking tours via hotel (we were short on time so paid AUD$200 for a 4-hour private boat Ha Long Bay tour for our group, but the shifty crew ended up sneaking extra people on the upper deck). Hotel was happy to hold our luggage after check-out while we went on tour. Overall good service, clean & spacious rooms, good food, great value, relaxing atmosphere... would stay there again.

The rooms were large and comfortable, however there were no utensils in the kitchen. One of our rooms, the shower had not been installed yet. Both the jacuzziz were empty (not filled with water). The gym was not how it looked in the photos. There were only 4 outdated equipment. The hotel staff are quite cunning, the recommended us to buy tickets from them to go to Tuan Chau when it was practically closed. Would not recommend this hotel.

After three nights in Royal Lotus Hotel Ha Long, I have to admit that it is the best hotel which I have booked via Agoda. Royal Lotus Hotel Ha Long is a brand new hotel. Consequently, the facilities are very modern and good as a four star hotel. I also was impressed by the room design, cleanliness and pleasant helpful staffs as well. Without a doubt, if I come back to Ha Long, I will choose Royal Lotus Hotel Ha Long again.

For 5 days we didn't see the sun, heavy fog most mornings, showers and poor visibility meant we had a disappointing stay in Halong... at least we had a great room. This was one of the best all round hotels we stayed at during our 6 weeks in Thailand/Vietnam. Great breakfast, well appointed room with very reasonably priced mini bar, kettle and good fridge... Excellent WiFi, 5 star bathroom... really nothing to complain about but... The huge development directly in front of the Hotel, which was a 24hr/ day construction site, I fear for the hotels great views. The restaurant on the road in front of the hotel caters for tourist buses, it was old and filthy I wouldn't let my dog eat there. There are good eats within walking distance.

The beach is only 200 meters from front of hotel but it’s not clean so have to take a taxi at 10-15 k Dong to get anywhere or take a bike which are free at hotel to run up to ATM or a bakery or smoothie place . Breakfast at hotel was marginal with white toast fried eggs and terrible coffee but they include juice and a small amount of fruit - if you want lunch or dinner again not the best but it will do in a pinch . We arranged a tour of HaLongBay through the hotel and paid them , they called a taxi for us, and were helpful with arranging transportation from hotel to Ninh Binh and they were friendly can’t say enough about the staff, they also did a load of laundry for us. All fir a price but much appreciated. This is a quiet location but out of the way a bit from everything

We chose Asean Halong Hotel for acclimatisation and resting up after the planeride over here, with great success. Not a lot going on, witch suited us fine. Nice room, freindly staff, sitting poolside, your glass gets refilled the moment you put it down. The manager speaks english, and what he lacks in grammar he makes up for with his plesant manners. This is also the guy to talk to if you want to book a trip around Halong Bay.

the hotel was walking distance from the boats and the town as well as the beach and the night market. enjoyed our few nights there except the first morning was incredibly noisy with a bus load of guests leaving early but the next morning was ok and the pool is lovely but you have to walk out the front of the hotel and go around as there is no exit at the back. the rooms were a good size and the view is beautiful.

The managers helped us to translate and came to the police station with us to make a report on our stolen belongings. That was nice. the travel agent was super nice and he took us to dinner at a local restaurant and the food was amazing. He also booked us was great. However the walls in our room were moldy and there is no wall decoration whatsoever. It's a 4-star hotel but don't consider it as a 4-star hotel in the US or any other developed countries.

Mp Passport was collected on arrival which seems to be the normal thing to do in Vietnam. The room was quite big, more than I needed but was nice for a change. There was a bit of an odor which seemed to comming from the paint, it looked stained or mouldy. The a/c worked well and freshened the air . The bed was very hard. The shower worked really well and the bathroom was big. The wifi worked well also. I would stay here again. I was in room 404. There was a short walk to the activity in SunWorld but far enough away fir it to not be a problem.

When we arrived in our room, I noticed that there was no hot water in the bathroom and that the shower jets did not work. I went to reception and asked for it to be repaired. Then they could not and after insisting on a room where the plumbing works, we were upgraded to a very nice suite. Unfortunately the baths' jets again did not work and after my friend fell on the wet floor as the bath leaked we had to move for the third time in 1 night. The staff was very accommodating and helpful and I'm grateful for that. The hotel is a little isolated but it has a fantastic view.

The best thing about this hotel is the staff - everyone is so helpful & so welcoming. We felt like they were our friends as soon as we arrived. The rooms are basic but very comfortable - comfy bed, good shower, good aircon, electric kettle in the room, quiet location. One girl on reception spent a long time chatting to us about tour options for Halong Bay and the pros and cons of each. We went for the 2-star 3-day Golden Bay cruise and had a great time at a very good price. Staff also booked us a bus to go to Sapa and then changed it (with no cancellation fee) when we decided to go to Hanoi instead. Laundry service is 50k VND/kilo, not bad. Food here must be ordered in advance but is very good, well priced and has generous portion sizes. I have nothing bad to say about this hotel at all, except I wish there was another one in Hanoi!

hotel is new and owner is new too. very decent Hotel. big rooms, everything brand new in the room. very good for staying there on a short term. around the hotel is nothing. seemed like it was more for Asian tourists than for western tourists. they were grilling a dog 20m from the hotel. That was the craziest thing I have ever seen. also the owner told us that we should eat breakfast there....that was not good. food in halong is limited for westerners. if you want to take the trip you have to get a taxi 15-20 min to another place where they have on KFC! nothing else was to do there the city is a major construction side. everything was during the day closed. even the theme park.very weird and very strange city. I would never go back to halong city or even northern vietnam. GO TO THE PHILIPPINES AND YOULL LOVE IT!!!!

Hotel needs to update its pictures it is no longer on the beach. The beach has been reclaimed and they are building a theme park and complex. Boats for halong bay are no longer based anywhere near here. Breakfast was OK mainly catering for Asians. But the standard eggs and bread were available. Room was very large with balcony and good view out to halong bay. The fixtures and fittings are very dated but clean. The bedding was good and the beds comfortable. Carpets in corridors needs cleaning. Restaurant was very comfortable. Staff were helpful and polite

We stayed in Viet Nhat Hotel for three nights. The room and bathroom were clean. The bed was a little bit hard, but you get used to it. The only problem was the noise from outside starting at 6 am (busses, motorbikes, workers) - we had a room to the street side. Ha Long City itself is unspectacular but the bay is beautiful. The whole family helped us a lot with booking a Ha Long Bay Tour and a bus to our next stop. The Ha Long Bay Tour was cheaper compared to the same tour at other hostels/agency. We would recommend the hotel.

Yeah i tell you how the staff services, when we come, she can't speak english, no smile, just one word for passport, and when we check out she didn't say a word, just accept the key card, the hotel still new, maybe it cause that. But the owner/sir very kind to us, when we arrive in our room, he came in, show us how to use the air con, the fan, and the shower. It's not really recommended, far from the harbour also.

I booked this hotel to experience the life of Halong. Though I arrived after after 6PM after my day trip through a taxi from harbor costing me 40k dong, the shops nearby were opened. Hence I could easily find food and fruits. I booked the transportation back to Hanoi here, it was 7PM but the staff who finished her work even came back who was perspiring because of me which surprised me. She was smiling and kind even I made her come back to work. She kindly talked to me the next day morning as well. It is a good place for you to try after a Halong trip who are not preferring to go back to Hanoi too early. However, it might cost you an extra since you have to book another way to go back to Hanoi.
