This Aparthotel is in an ideal location situated between the place i have to volunteer (gay village) and my favourite place the northern quarter. Although the price is slightly higher than other hotels but u get the extra living space (open plan kitchen/living room). The staff is exceptionally friendly from the house keeper to the managers. Certainly one of the best experience i have had so far in Manchester. Top marks for (Staff/Location/Cleanliness). Thank you for such a wonderful experience.

The staff are so friendly from the exceptional men who greet you on arrival to the staff at breakfast. Everyone is really friendly. Rooms are beautifully decorated and a fully stocked mini bar with the best complimentary biscuits we've ever had! The location is absolutely perfect, right in the heart of city. We were delighted with our choice for this visit to Manchester. We didnt want to stay in the centre but wanted to be within walking distance. The location is perfect. The hotel is spotless clean and bright and the staff are very friendly and helpful. We stayed for two nights. On arrival we were greeted by a lovely receptionist. Our room was lovely. It was bright and tastefully decorated with a free soft drink minibar provided along with robes and slippers. The hotel is located on First Street, a newly developed area with bars and restaurants and next door to Home, a theatre, restaurant & cinema complex. The are is still being developed but we are already looking forward to returning in the near future. Breakfast was good, the restaurant is bright and spacious and we didnt get that crowded breakfast room feeling. We had dinner in the hotel on the Saturday night and it was lovely. Definitely recommend this hotel.

I was visiting my sister in hospital and asked the staff for directions, transport,the costs etc, they knew everything!! After many hours at the hospital, I went back to the hotel had food and drinks which were very good quality, facilities were brilliant and a good nights sleep was had. When we returned to check in (a little worse for wear) the lovely security directed us to reception, the gent on reception gave us really good (and simple) directions to our room and we felt really looked after.! Our room was beautiful, it felt really grand with an extra high ceiling and a bed which could fit me (5ft 10) and my husband (6ft5) starfishing and still room between us-and it was extremely comfortable! I don't mind that our room was on a busy road (and i could hear revellers on the friday night), as i sleep through anything but if youre a light sleeper i would recommend requesting a quieter room. we didnt get to sample the bar/restaurant which is a shame as the bar was the main reason we booked (we were just to tired to fancy a drink) but were returning in January and cannot wait! i have no idea why this isnt a 5 star hotel! it certainly felt like one.

I've stayed at the Radisson Edwardian on several occasions, as the service is excellent, the rooms are modern and stylish, the cocktails are the best things about the hotel (although quite pricey apprx. £8-£10 each - highly recommended Opus in a Million, their signature cocktail) and the ambience in the bar is relaxed, yet the staff are extremely efficient and attentive. Would highly recommend for business or pleasure. Great location for shops, bars, restaurants etc!

Everything seemed pretty new and up to date however we did see and ordinary room and did feel that these were dated and glad we had upgraded. I looks like the refurbishment of the Hotel is a work in progress and look forward to seeing it all completed to the same standard throughout (landings, staircases etc) and the standard bedrooms modernised.

There are lots of stairs and the lifts are rather small, but there are 2 which is just enough for people and their luggage. We were allowed to leave our bags there before check-in, the staff were very helpful in this matter. However, anything more and they charge - breakfast is £10 per person and if you want to use their LAN internet they ask for a refundable deposit of £100! Our room was a decent size, but it had a noticeable damp patch on the ceiling and holes in the bedding. The bathroom was of a decent size and stocked with a nice range of complimentary toiletries. I'd certainly use this hotel again, but book through Brittania's own site because you can get it cheaper than on here.

I paid £30 for my room online, for which I received a room with tea and coffee making facilities, am emsuite of shower, sink and toilet, free soap, loo rolls etc, and a clean room with a telly on the wall, and a comfortable bed. I note other people's remarks about a shabby first impression, but it should be noted that the vast amount of money required to really do the place up would force the price to be significantly higher than it is, and if that happens The Merchant Hotel would lose its' niche as a cheap overnight stay and would be just another anonymous hotel in a crowded market. It's swings and roundabouts really, but the basics are all there as a cheap alternative. And the bloke on reception is really excellent.

Hotel have several with NCP. If their car park is full and u park at NCP, I get a 40% discount, which we coated after discount at around £35. So still better to use the hotel parking. Overall a great w/e and would stay again. Book early, to get a great deal - we booked in June for our January stay.

Luckily we did not pay extra for this and it was included in our stay. We shortly left and went out to Dimitri's a Greek restaurant across the road from the hotel. Highly recommend food was fab staff lovely too. After we went back to the hotel and decided to go to cloud 23 for a cocktail we had to wait 10 mins which wasn't a problem but by time we got up there there was hardly anyone there, I suppose they don't want it too crowded so people could see the amazing views of the city. We had a cocktail each really expensive for what they were but was really nice and your paying for the view. Headed back to our room and had a really nice comfy sleep. Got up in the night to find a letter under the door saying we had a guest charge not a nice surprise you want to see in the morning! So got dressed and went to speak to staff about it. Turned out it was just a mix up and that it would be wiped thank goodness! Staff were really friendly and have really good communication. Continental breakfast was included so we went and tried it. It was the worst breakfast we have ever had although scrambled eggs and sausages were tolerable. It was included with our stay so we didn't pay extra but if you have to pay for breakfast here make sure its not the continental one not worth it. Checked out easily and went to the mosi museum a short walk away as we still had an hour of parking left. We parked in the car park across the road from the Hilton as we could not find the hotel parking at all. Turned out cheaper anyway £12 for 24hrs. Overall our stay was amazing

This is the second time I’ve used this hotel, while in Manchester for the football and this time I stayed two nights due to the train strike. The rooms are modern and clean though a bit on the small side. This hotel is in Canal st next to McTukys (great chicken & ribs) in the heart of the gay Village. Being straight you may thing that may be off putting but it’s not. No one will bother you so you just go about your business. I would definitely recommend this hotel for a short stay and will definitely stay again. They also have a special type of window to keep the noise out. Keith

Night shift person on desk charged me for my booking a second time because he didn't understand that the system was showing a payment owed by booking agent, which was okay as mistakes happen, but he was v patronising and insistent when I said I had already paid. I had to argue about it the second time I came back to the desk to convince him. He did refund me in the end, but didn't apologise for repeatedly telling me I was wrong and giving me innacurate stories as to why (he didn't check the evidence I provided, and inaccurately told me I was confused about it, and had used booking.com!) , just showed me his screen. Morning desk staff made same mistake, but didn't just tell me I was wrong, rather immediately looked into it and quickly apologised once they checked why it was showing as unpaid with the manager. Women running the restaurant for breakfast was great, and got me a tea to go when she heard I was in a hurry, without me asking. Man running it night before was also v helpful.

Though we ate out each evening, we noticed that a lot of people, particularly late arrivals, used the food service in the reception lounge, which also seemed to be 24/7. Unusual in my travel experience but a great idea. Checkout was also swift and efficient. In summary, thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was a far superior offering to some of the so called 4 Star Hotels we have experienced in our travels do far this year. Well done to Ibis and well done to the staff at Ibis, Portland Street, Manchester. We will return.
