I was looking for a cheap hotel in Shinjuku area, and really didn't mind if the rooms were small, as long as the place was clean, decent, and had a great location. APA Hotel in Shinjuku-Gyonmae fits the bill to a T. It may have bigger rooms, I don't know, but for solo traveller like me, I was just looking for 1 single room.The room was very small, as expected. But amazingly compact in design and complete. This is Japanese efficiency of putting everything together in such a small space. I had a study table, a mini ref, a hospitality coffee and tea, and a giant flat screen TV (this was the only big thing)! The toilet was also amazingly compact, but well designed to fit everything you would need, including automatic bidet and nice hot shower. The toilet seemed like a pre-fabricated module plug into the room, and was spotlessly clean! As a single traveller, the small space is really just enough for one to move around, but who cares, I just need a place to sleep and shower. And I must say, the bed quality and duvet was superb--super soft, although the pillows were flat (Japanese style?). It also had an aircon so I switched it on so it doesn't get so stuffy. The reading lights and switches are also well located in such a small space. And must I say that the wifi was super fast! The location is also just less than 5 mins. walk to Shinjuku-Gyonmae subway (Maranouchi Line) which connects to Shinjuku main station (2 stops away) where you can connect to so many trains. Around the area is quite New Yorkish (quiet side) with Choco croque, Tully's Cafe, Freshness Burger, Coco Ichibanya, many Family Marts and 7-11's, and a big nice park behind. Very safe and clean neighbourhood. I didn't book for breakfast, as it was easy to eat out. It also has a free sauna and spa at the lower basement in case you want to use. I just took a look. The rooms are more than spacious especially in Japanese standard. The location is great which is 2 min walk from the train station. There are restaurants, food and convenient stores just steps away from the hotel. The breakfast is satisfactory and we have no complaint about it based on the price that you pay for your stay as this is not a five star hotel. So don't expect a five star breakfast when you only pay for a three star facility. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at the hotel and really appreciated the warm welcome and the assistance from the staff. I highly recommended this hotel and will come back for sure.

The term "Hotel" in Japan means a different thing than in the West, and I can assure you no matter where you come from this hotel will not be considered "small" like others in Japan. This is a proper Western sized hotel. We got a huge room with a large queen bed with wall to wall floor to ceiling window view of the whole Shinjuku district, to get a better view you probably have to go to the Shinjuku Gov building's observation floor. I could go into infinity details, but I will just say, the Japanese are really into details. In a totally anal sense, and the room was prepared and equipped to the best of their abilities. There are things and service in the room that you wouldn't think of needing, because they've thought about everything. For those of you backpackers who think you just need a room, you need to find something 1/2 of this price or else you are not getting good value. For those traveling with family like me, we need service! Like letting our 8yr old stay in the room without extra charge. Having a convenience store in the hotel. Airport shuttle at the lobby. Bath products that will make all the ladies scream. Close but not in the middle of it all in Shinjuku so we can have a relaxing stay, but also a covered conveyor belt walk way into the metro station, that make a huge difference during the rain! We booked a Superior Double room for an eleven night stay at Shinjuku Granbell and were very pleased. This is a very popular hotel and for good reason. The check in and check out process is very efficient, the rooms were clean and well equipped with amenities, and the maid service was reliable. The bar on the 13th floor is a great option for a rooftop bar- excellent view, not so many customers, and good prices- a hidden gem among rooftop bars in Tokyo. Although the maid service was limited to between hours of 10-2pm, if one managed one's schedule to request service during this period, it was reliable. I especially liked the daily delivery of bottled water. There was one night that the entire hotel lost power. This became a slight hassle during the day because the elevators where not operable. We were refunded a half night's rent, and they eventually fixed the problem. I don't expect this to occur again. My main complaint is about the pub/coffee lounge on the first floor. First, the hours could be more convenient; currently it is from 10am to 8 pm, so I had to go elsewhere for coffee in the morning. It is a comfortable space, and I actually like the draft beer more there than at the bar on the 13th floor. If hours were extended in the evening, I think there would be interest by customers. Second, the service there was lacking, particularly in the beginning of my stay. One time, I couldn't find the attendant and had to ask the main desk to send him to the lounge even during the middle of its operating period. Generally, one had to make more effort than usual to submit an order. I enjoy not being frequently hassled for service, but this was somewhat the other extreme.

The bed in particular was very comfortable. The public bath was also very clean and comfortable, and a very relaxing place to end each day. I am not sure I would rate the hotel as 4-stars however I have no major criticism. If the rooms were more spacious it may well deserve that rating. However, as they are restricted for space yet also chosen to squeeze-in a lot of rooms it somewhat reduces the feeling of ease and comfort. The best part of the hotel is the room ammenities, new clean rooms and superb location. There is a convenience store right across the hotel and many 24 hr fast food restaurants if you get hungry at night.

Room is quite good value for money - if the yen wasn't so stratospherically high would be excellent value for money. There are some hotels closer to Shinjuku station that this is the only one I could get into when I booked. Free Internet access using ethernet cable.

The gym was clean as very well stocked for a hotel gym I take lifting quite seriously and would have preferred a power rack to a smith but I can understand the decision. The bed and room were fantastic. Well styled and great materials. High quality linens made it a wonderful place to be. The only issue I have is that for £200 a night I cannot understand why I had to pay extra for room internet access. I have stayed in hostels that provide this for free and I have found it is more normal to not receive this in business hotels. Free access in the lobby and the business centre is lovely but it's just not the same experience as being able to have a skype in your room. I think £10 for this service is too much and should be free. Like I say its the little things.

This is a great base for Tokyo -- right in front Hanzomon subway exit 5 (and the elevator access, which is convenient for those with a lot of bags), and situated in a quiet area. The best thing is that this hotel is very very near Tokyo Metro Subway , you can walk only 3 minutes so you will reach subway. I'm very enjoy stayed at Hyatt, the staff member are friendly and always give me quick response. The concierge staff are very helpfull to guide me and give me direction to the place I want to visit and they even call the shop I want to visit to make sure if they open on that day because on first January some off shop and mall are closed for holiday. When I got to the hotel the staff barely spoke English but they did their best to accomodate and communicate which to me is the only thing that matters. Room was tiny but clean. It was good for 1 person. TV was big, airconditioning is amazing, food was substandard but it was cheap at 1,000 ¥. With all the 24 hour convenience stores around it really was so easy to eat and grab essentials really quick. Love this hotel and I WILL Stay here again during my Winter Trip to Tokyo ;-)

We were there in the morning and at night and while the room was super small, it was more than adequate for being our starting and ending points each day. We did request a non-smoking room but definitely had the smell of smoke in our room. I don't know if that's really the fault of the hotel – the room, as booked through Agoda, was listed as a Smoking Room with the added option of Non-Smoking Room. I pretty much expected it to be a smoking room so it wasn't a huge disappointment but would have been nice to have had a non-smoking room. Super close to Lawson and 7-11 and across the street from a shrine which was very nice during the New Year holiday. Staff was very helpful and held our luggage for several hours after checkout before we checked into our next place. Would definitely stay again!

First of all, you need to know the room is indeed small (16 sqm) which is the same for all hotels in Tokyo for this price. There's mini bath tub, free evian drinking water, toiler with remote controlled bidet, very tidy and clean room, free mila schon shampoo, conditioner and body was gel on top of the provided shampoo, rinse and body wash, free toothbrush, shave, facial wash, clothes deodorant, bubble was ball, hair brush, free ice at 8th floor machine, free green tea, etc. Just put the house keeping sign outside the door and the room will be clean as new and everything used will be replenish except the mila schon stuffs unless the see nth left then they will replenish. The staffs can speak moderate english and one male staff can speak very well chinese. You can buy the 500 yen (worth 600 yen) voucher from the hotel to be used at the Tully's coffee downstairs. The Tully's Coffee pumpkin latte is a must try! Everything is nice! Next to it is also the Lawson store sth like 7-Eleven. The hotel will recommend cheap and good food to you and be very honest about all the tourist spots if you ask them. Hospital, restaurants, shopping complex, drug store and supermarket is just within 3-10 mins walking distance. There's the Don Quixote supermarket that sells almost anything at cheap price near the Korean Town that occasionally will have debuting Korean Star promoting themselves offering free signatures and photographs. The staffs are helpful and nice to offer any assistance you ask. They even have a weight scale for your luggage to make sure you don't go overweight for your flight! Awesome! The hotel is just next to higashi-shinjuku subway station. It is quite far from the red light district area. This area is for shopping, not for sightseeing.

I loved my hotel room. I was on the 14th floor (top floor) on a corner room so it was very quiet. The curtains blocked out the bright sunlight. The room was very clean. The staff spoke English and very friendly and helpful. The location was excellent because it was only a 2 minute walk to the nearest subway station. The big shopping areas are only one stop from the nearest subway station. All the major tourist attractions can be accessed by subway from the nearest subway station. I would book this hotel again if I visit Tokyo again. I highly recommend this hotel.

The hotel is situated 200 metres from the subway stop which is 2 stops from Shinjuku main station, and tokyos subways are pretty good, make sure to download the Tokyo metro app. There is a 7/11 shop about 50 metres away and several restaurants. We found the wifi in our room to be decent despite reading some reviews stating they could only get it in the lobby, however we were situated on the 2nd floor. The hotel is nice and quiet, the only negative I have was that the hotel did have a slight cigarette smell, however they do provide air freshener. Overall we were very satisfied and enjoyed our stay.
