Beautiful hotel, unfriendly staff and lack of promised facilities”
Pros - The hotel is huge and very comfortable. Water pressure is great, bed spacious and got a great night sleep. Board games available downstairs and restaurant and bar located in hotel. 15 minute walk to the village of Fort Augustus. Cons - one major reason we chose this hotel was because The Inch states here on Agoda and in their hotel welcome book that they have bicycles available for guests. We were excited to use the bicycles, but were told they weren't available right now but to inquire later in the evening (which is fine). However, when asked later was told they don't have bicycles and haven't for a year due to lack of interest. Being told in three different ways that there would be bicycles and then basically "too bad, go to town" was not what we expected from The Inch! Reception was not friendly, not greeted with a smile and felt kind of like a bother for checking in and asking about the bicycles. For $200 we expected better, especially in terms of customer service.

Loved the clean air and country quietness. Stayed here after a cruise on Loch Ness. Very charming former hunting lodge. Best night's sleep and excellent dinner. We walked around the property. Loved it!

As stated it really has a great location and is a lovely old building.The room we had could do with a bit of an upgrade especially the bathrooms. The overall stay was enjoyable but there needs to be more of a management presence . The place seemed to be run by language students and the service in the dining room was poor. Main meals were great but sweets took a long time to be served and were all rather disappointing with coffee served well before they arrived and comment was met by indifference. There would seem to be a shortage of staff in the kitchen . It was a shame because it would be easy to rectify and the stay could have been more memorable especially for our Canadian friends who have high expectations if highland hospitality
