Cozy and welcoming”
We really enjoyed our stay there. Accommodation was beyond my expectations compared with others given the same price range. You can find almost all provisions and necessities in the hostel. Owner was also very nice. He offered us ride to and from Shaboten, which saved us tons of hassle. You can also easily buy grocery nearby as well. Definitely worth the money. Will consider again when we visit Ito.

Exceptional”
The hotel was super excellent with nice, friendly staff. All you need can be found in this hotel, from private hot spring (reservation needed) to big rooms for sleeping. The hotel room is safe, clean and elegant. No communication problem at all, as the staff is good at English. The breakfast was arranged in a large dinning room, it was so delicious. It is highly recommended for a visit, and you wont be disappointed.

Second Stay”
I had booked both in July and September to stay overnight before going scuba diving in Futo, and this was my second stay in Hinodeya. Hinodeya is one of the best accommodations I have stayed in, having wonderful staff and a beautiful traditional Japanese-style architecture. Walking the corridors and exploring around was exciting, as the building is bigger that imagined from the outside. What is fascinating is that, no rooms are identical, each facing a different direction and in different sizes, and are equipped with matching furniture. It is a 6-min walk from Izu-Kogen station, having dinner and breakfast options, and hot spring baths (times lots can be reserved 45min per room, for prevention measures). I would especially recommend Hinodeya to people who want to experience the Japanese style housing/culture (wear yukata after going to the onsen, sleep on tatami mats with a futon, etc…).

Good location & feel like home”
Good location which is 500 meters from train station, and close to Mt Omuro and Shobuten zoo. The host was very friendly and helpful. He drove me to and from the mountain without charges. The home cook breakfast was simply fantastic 😊

A wonderful ryokan”
What a wonderful ryokan - very authentic, pleasant, and comfortable. For the price, I expected only a basic place to sleep, and Hinodeya so much exceeded my expectations. It offers the full ryokan experience - a spacious traditional Japanese room with a futon bed and all furniture, real Japanese breakfast in a dining room with low tables, and even a small onsen in the hotel's bath. (There is also a much bigger public onsen, Izukogen-no-yu, only 5 minutes' walk from Hinodeya, also much recommended). The room was in fact much bigger than the tiny rooms in most Western-style business hotels in the big cities, including the high-end ones. The staff was very friendly and helpful - the owner drove me to the train station after check out, which I don't think has ever happened to me before in any other hotel. The location of the hotel is very convenient - about 10 minutes' walk from the Izukogen train station, making it a very good base for exploring the Izu peninsula. For example, the beautiful Shirahama beach can be reached in about an hour's train ride to Shimoda, followed by a 10 minutes' bus ride. The Jogasaki shore is only 1km away from the hotel, and can be recommended for its volcanic rocks and rugged beauty - perfect for hiking, especially if you have the time to cover the entire shore's length of 10km or so. WIth its steep slopes and volcanic origin, it reminded me a lot of the French Riviera or the Amalfi coast, only Izu is relatively much less developed. (Incidentally, I visited all three places in the month of May in different years, and in comparison, there were a lot fewer people in Izu than on the Mediterranean coast.) Still, with so many great restaurants offering fresh seafood, and so much natural beauty, Izu is one of the greatest vacation areas I have ever seen, and Hinodeya is the perfect place to stay during your visit there.

A charming little ryokan”
Stayed at Hinodeya for 3 nights (4-7 Mar 2015). At first glance, the facilities are a little old and dated, shared bathroom and toilets but the whole place is kept very clean. And the longer I stayed, the more I intereacted with the owners, the charm of this little ryokan deepened. Come to this ryokan if you desire warm attentive yet non-intrusive service. Tetsuya-san immediately delivered a humidifier to my room the moment he understood I had a bad cough. He is ever ready to spring into action to help out: be it explaining the train schedules or calling on my behalf to confirm a stained glass making appointment, or arranging for my luggage to be sent via courier to Tokyo. Noriko-obachan puts a lot of thought and heart into cooking all the meals - simple yet delicious home cooked food, sometimes served with a creative twist.. I ordered dinner for all 3 nights of my stay and was pleasantly rewarded, both in quality and quantity. Noriko-obachan is 69 years old this year and yet, she has picked up some simple English in order to better communicate with her guests :) Using Hinodeya/Izukogen as base, it was easy traveling northwards to Ito or southwards to Kawazu and Shimoda. One of the best thing about Hinodeya is that it is within walking distance to the Izukogen train station, with supermarkets nearby and a 100-yen shop next door. If you are arriving with heavy or big luggage, then it might be good to give the ryokan a call and ask them for pick up from the train station. Overall, it has been a delightful stay at Hinodeya and I am truly blessed that it turned out to be such a great choice.

Experience traditional ryokan and bathhouse with great service”
Stayed in Izukogen Hinodeya Ryokan for a night with my family of 5. Had a great time. We had rented a car and arrived to find parking easily available in front of the ryokan. Our room on the second floor had tatami style bedding and was big enough to fit everyone. We changed into the yukata (Japanese robes ) provided. There were 2 balconies with seats where you can sit and enjoy the tea provided. We ordered dinner and breakfast. Both meals were fantastic, and the portions were sizeable. Highly recommended. The bath in the ryokan was good and provided an intro as to how to conduct ourselves in a Japanese bathhouse. We proceeded to go to the onsen (hot springs) nearby. It was already late at 9.30 pm and we were prepared to walk on a winter night. The ryokan staff would have none of it and insisted on driving us there. Onsen was great, we dashed out in the cold after showering to get into the water. Overall great experience of Japanese culture at a reasonable price.

Wonderful ryokan”
I only stayed for one night but Hinodeya was the highlight of my trip. The room comes with yukata rental, which makes for great photos. The traditional Japanese breakfast is delicious. The facilities are squeaky clean. Even though the bathrooms are shared between guests, I never encountered anyone else. It is nice to have the baths to myself. When it was time to leave the owner drove me to the train station. His English is not good but he does his best to communicate. I really appreciate his hospitality.

Highly Recommend”
If you want to travel to the east side of Izu, this is the place you should stay. About location: 3 minutes walk to Izukogen Station which is a big station which you could take train to everywhere. About the house: Very traditional Japanese wooden Tatami house. The room and the house is kept very clean. Got all the facilities you need in the room: TV, air-con, fridge, locker and also tea. Public space is comfortable with free coffee and massage chair. Bath and toilet is clean too. It also have onsen in it. It really feels like home. About the neighbour: Very quiet and relaxing countryside place. Got local restaurant, drug stores and food market within 5-10 minutes walk. Recommend milk and fruit here. Very fresh and taste good. Drug store is very big and much less crowded than Tokyo. You can do shopping here. About the stay: The host is very kind to offer pick and send to the sightseeing spot and station. This is very helpful and convenient. You can also take bus at station.

Nice ryokan, friendly staff”
We enjoyed our stay in this ryokan. It was clean and very traditional Japanese ryokan. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Even there were many guests staying it was quiet. Staff asked at what time we want to have the tatamis layed down and at what time we want breakfast. Breakfast was served in a large room and it was set individually for each room. Very traditional Japanese set. We also got a vegetarian breakfast when we asked. The hot spring bath was quite small but clean and warm but if you want to go to a bigger onsen it is very close to this ryokan and you can get discount ticket from the staff. This ryokan is very close to the train station.
