Rude Staff, great location, good kitchen”
We stayed in an ensuite double room while traveling with Kiwi Experience in the middle of the winter. Without KE, this place, like many others could not survive in the winter. I read the poor reviews and also the responses from the management at TA. The audacity of the management showed in the response where we, the reviewers were reminded that there are no other hostels at the entrance of the Abel Tasman National Park. Yes that is the problem. Trust me everyone reading it as travelers, the staff are rude and ignorant. Our room was supposed to be a double where there was a double bed and then a BUNK BED instead of a couple of chairs or a table or a wardrobe of some sort. In the days before internet a place like this would have done fine but now we do have a platform to write about our experience. The bathroom had a fan that made noise but obviously did not work. The sign said (and we followed it) to close the bathroom door while showering because their fire alarm will go off. The bathroom became a Turkish Steam Sauna within 2 minutes. The TV gets about 4 channels and none of these are International News channel. The private rooms renter has access to real chinaware in the kitchen. The kitchen is good and clean. However, the two Asians (I am an Asian as well) who do the house keeping neither speak nor understand English much at all. I asked after checking out if I can use a toilet. I got nowhere until I found a toilet in the hallway. The receptionist was not friendly to anyone and hence We did not take it personally. It is however sad because all other Kiwis we have met so far on our last almost 3 weeks travel have been really friendly and kind. The location is great. Go walk the Kaiteri trail and listen to the amazing bird song. Even if you are traveling with KE, try to afford a nearby real hotel. I could and I regret for not doing it.

Fine for a night I guess”
I stayed in winter so there was very few people there. It was cold yet the heater in the room only worked in 30 minute cycles, and you hand to push a button near the light switch after every 30 minute cycle to turn it on again. They had a sign saying talk to reception if it was too cold, but reception closed soon after check in and didn't reopen till morning. Had a very cold night of sleep. No wifi. Kitchen and refrigerators were gross. Overall I survived just fine, but if I had to do it again I would of stayed in Motueka and did the short drive back in the morning to catch the boat into Abel Tasman.

great location, but poor room condition”
I can't say it's a good experience here. The room is small, even it provided us with extra beds. Also the room is not clean enough, worst of all, the bathroom is really smelly, we have to shut down the bathroom door all the time. The heater is not working well too, we have to keep pushing a button every 30 mins to enable its power. Obviously, you can only use 30 mins' heater when you sleep. Overall, I think it's a backpacker lodge but charged us a hotel's price.

Good for backpackers”
We’d stayed in double room which is located right next to kitchen. It was quite noisy at night. Besides, there’s blinds instead of curtains and it was broken at the bottom of it. Considering the room is next to pathway, it’s better to have a proper curtain for customers to keep their privacy. We’ve got 10GB wifi everyday but we needed to log in every single time which was really annoying. On the first day, we found out that the TV didn’t work and asked the staff and it hadn’t been fixed when we checked out. I think this place is good for backpackers but not for the people who want to have their own place.

Great location but standard room”
We book this for the great location. Walking distance to abel tasman cruise. Parking is reserved for occupant (plus point). Basic room. No lift for 2nd level. Convenient place as restaurant/ bar just downstairs. Slightly noisy.

Above average”
Room was basic but clean. Lack of staff available, occasionally no staff at reception to ask queries. Back fire door was hooked open with direct access to all the rooms (not very secure) Bar closed early at 9pm Okay for one night but would not stay again

No wifi”
There is no free wifi, you have to pay to use the wifi or the computer. They said that they are working on it. I'd only come back once they have it done. The rest is fine.
