Fabulous location ”
I used to live in Westbourne Place and frequented Racks. Great location and friendly staff Service in Racks was really slow, friendly but really slow so I wouldn’t recommend if you’re in a rush! I didn’t eat at the hotel but food looked good. Breakfast at £9.50 is cheap for a hotel but places around the area if this is above your budget. Rooms are small but have everything in, also fresh fruit and freshly ground coffee. There is water but in the mini bar which you have to pay for which is a bit odd for a hotel of that standard. Beds are comfortable, too soft for me as I have a bad back and like a rock hard bed so I am suffering but I would think 98% of people would be fine. Small car park a couple of roads away, 2 minutes walk away if that. Useful for around there as streets are busy and nigh on impossible to park. Lovely hotel, location and staff and would recommend.

All good. Lovely comfy beds and small touches such as fruit. Only issue was water from the shower which was far too hot in the evening & we couldn’t turn tap further to cool it. Seemed ok in the morning.

Well located for Clifton. Parking on site which is helpful in Bristol. The receptionist was vey helpful.

Could be good!”
We had a variety of issues which led to us checking out after one night. If you get the right room this could be a good hotel, in a great area and staff member dealt with our problems as best they could. Main issue was our room must have been directly above the kitchen and it stank of cooking fat, even the staff member said it was terrible but there were no other rooms available. Parking was difficult, the sofa bed was not made up (no linen provided until asked) and both taps only ran hot. However bed was comfy and it’s more interesting and cheaper than the chain hotel we are now in.

A recommendation with qualification”
I was looking for a hotel that wouldn't break the bank for a quick weekend to visit my daughter and in that sense The Clifton was ideal. However, my "executive single" was small and from their plans other rooms were evidently smaller. The room I was in had a good modern ensuite shower room but the room itself was dated. The window was old single glazed and didn't close properly. The building itself is old and rather rickety but it's handy for the amenities of Whiteladies Rd. So if you're after a cheapish place to lay your head for a couple of nights it's grand. If you're after a "holiday style" experience I'd look elsewhere, though that's going to cost you.

Noisy rooms on ground floor and bin lorries come round at stupid o'clock. I had bottles being tipped into a wagon at 5am outside my window. Food is a bit pricey downstairs.

Good value but concern over the bill”
My stay at the Clifton was a positive one until I received an email after returning home telling me that they had charged me for something from the minibar that I hadn't declared on checking out, but that they had also significantly overcharged me for it, meaning they had to reimburse me. I was mainly unhappy because I had not in fact had anything from the minbar, and they obviously had an inventory issue. Surely they should have contacted me to check this before taking the money. When I disputed it I heard nothing back from them until I chased it several days later, to be told that they had reimbursed the money. No apology for their mistake. No apology for having overcharged when they made the mistake. No compensation for having taken money that I had to pay interest upon until it was back on my card. Not very impressive!

Tiny room, tinier en suite, bed springs gone, old fashioned bedding, rubbish view of a dirty balcony, noisy location at night, constant noise from creaking stairs and the lift. Lovely staff though, will not be staying again. Thought it was very overpriced even for a Saturday night.

If you could stay in Reception, it would be fine.......”
The Reception area and staff were the best part about this hotel. The rest of it is in serious need of both investment, some SERIOUS deep cleaning and attention to detail. My room had the curtains hanging off the ends of the rails. The carpets were sticky, both in the hallways and rooms. My room wasn't cleaned for one day (which I wouldn't have minded if I had been expecting it). Location was very convenient, but overall, it was not a pleasant experience.

Not very clean at all, shower didn’t work, the sheets seemed clean but the duvet had blood stains and yellow marks underneath. The kettle was awful limescale floating really bad ad was full on arrival so I suppose it’s to be expected. I appreciate it’s a budget hotel so I didn’t expect a lot for my money but I did expect a little more with the cleanliness. On check in I was told about the restaurant and told their availability was really good, turned up at 6 to be told they were fully booked all evening. On check out receptionist didn’t even look up at us so just put the key on the desk. Oh and last but not least don’t use the mini bar go to the shop and stock up.

A lot of dust on skirting boards either side of bed and on coffee pot. Hotel has poor noise insulation, but is typical of old Bristol buildings. Location is handy for Clifton

Amazing hotel with the BEST staff!”
The staff here could not have been more wonderful, especially Judith and Miguel! They both remembered me and why I was staying (for an exam), which really made me feel welcome. The small single room was the perfect size with a MASSIVE TV and a very comfy bed. Hotel is in a prime location, and outside noise is minimal despite this. However, the lift does squeak loudly, so if your room is near that then be aware you may want earplugs.

Stay was ok but not without issues. I requested a room away from pub but I was given one facing it - they claimed not to have received my special requests which were sent twice. Allowed to change rooms on 2nd night but then I was given a room which had not been cleaned so I had to change again. Parking is £10 a night, this is ok I guess but no point paying on Sundays when its free all day - staff did not bother to inform this.
