Best location and best hotel”

We've stayed all over San Diego and this by far is our favorite place and we'll definitely be back. Our family liked the short drive to everything. The pool and pool bar are fantastic. When the kids went to bed we enjoyed the fire pits and private beach.

Mellow spot ”

I live in San Diego and needed time out of my house because of quarantine. Friends came to visit so I chose a hotel outside of touristy downtown. This hotel keeps you close to everything but away from everything. Quiet and mellow both day and night. Awesome outdoor area that is spread out.

Great Value”

We enjoyed our stay at the Kona Kai Resort. It as a bit out of town and not much walking distance, but the Uber/Lyft rides were only about $6 to just about anywhere. The bed was comfortable and the room was spacious. I enjoyed my private patio for bikini sunbathing looking out across the bay. The Vessel had amazing Chilequiles for breakfast too!

Beautiful Resort, VERY Noisy”

Kona Kai is beautiful, with lovely amenities, a great restaurant, and very kind staff. However...for the price I paid, I would have not expected to be awoken each morning to the wakeup call and National Anthem blaring over loud speakers, nor to hearing a constant, loud beeping throughout every night. When I booked a room to be bay front, I had hoped to sleep with my door open and enjoying the sounds and smells of the water. Instead, I had to put on white noise on my phone to help drown out the unrelenting outside noise that went unmentioned on the resort's website. Overall, I am quite disappointed by the lack of relaxation I had paid for and hoped to achieve while there for a few days of respite.

Dear Jessica, I am so sorry that you did not enjoy the peacefulness you were expecting. On your next visit, may I recommend a Marina View room? These rooms are highly sought due to the incredible views and the accompanying quietness. I apologize that the 8am National Anthem from the Coronado Marine Air Station proved to be an inconvenience. I do hope we have the opportunity to serve you again in the future. Please reach out to me directly should your future travels call for a return visit to San Diego so that I may personally ensure we meet/exceed your expectations. Broken AC Unit”

We’ve stood at Kona Kai many times over the years, it’s always a great place. This time we were disappointed. As soon as we walked in our room we noticed it a bit warm although the ac was running, we figured it was just turned on since the room had just been serviced before our check in. We lowered the temp. down to 70, give it sometime and go cool down/relax by the pool with our 1 year old daughter. We returned a couple hours later and the room was still warm, we inspected the unit/noticed the unit was barely blowing air and was room temperature at most. We then lowered the temp down to 68 degrees and the lowest (preset) it went down to. We proceeded to get ready and head out for an early dinner. When we returned the room was the same temperature no change. This time we noticed the floor was wet from the unit leaking. We called front desk and were told if no tech was available, it would be serviced following day. No use to us then, we were checking out in morning.

Not worth the money.”

The only nice review I have is... it’s a nice view. But other than that you need to make a reservation for pretty much EVERYTHING. The pool access, the restaurant, the water sports. You also can’t even get in the beach. Theirs rocks blocked off so it blocks the water. I thought their was beach access which is why I booked this place. But I was very disappointed throughout my bday weekend. I would’ve been happier going to my local beach.
