Good experience for learning Japanese Buddhism ”
It is a fair price to learn Japanese Buddhism given the temple is a historical site. The price includes dinner and breakfast (vegetarian), and an early lesson. The guest room does not provide warm water for washing hands. Fortunately, the room is equipped with warm toilet seat and air conditioner (warm + cool). It is in the middle of the main road, so it is a good point to start a trip to the entire area. You can pay and checkout after 8 am but not earlier. Note early morning is relatively cold which is about 16 degree Celsius. So closing doors and windows before sleep is a must.

To be honest, Koya San is probably best left for a day trip. The site has a lot of history and parts are almost errie so it's worth visiting but staying in a so called temple over night wasn't really that different to staying in a ryokan but just more expensive and with an average vegetarian breakfast. I think only if you a specific interest in Japanese Buddhism would it be worth staying overnight.

An unforgettable experience”
The temple is breathtaking . It is also a little more secluded than some of the other temple accommodations [though easy to walk too from the bus] which really gives the place an lot of charm. It is very easy to jump on the bus or even walk to Okunoin so the location is ideal. The rooms were comfortable, clean and in the authentic Japanese style. A lot of character. Be sure to witness the morning ceremony. However if you wish to check out early in the morning, don't forget to mention this to the staff the day before . Otherwise you wont be able to check out until about 7am.

overall it was a nice experience. the dinner and breakfast were good but probably difficult to eat if you are not used to japanese/asian food. the ceremony at 6 30am was a unique and interesting experience, highly recommended to attend. the room was very nice, clean and with a view of the interior garden i could not join to try the ajikan meditation, for some reason the staff told me it was not held on that morning even though other (japanese) guests did join on the same day. wifi signal is poor. there is no wifi of their own, instead they use the city free wifi which doesn't reach that well inside the accommodation. i had to work in the evening and went to a 7-11 instead (20 min walk).

Nice cozy room and breakfast was pretty good. Would be good to warn guests before they reserve, that bathing and breakfast times are not flexible and that guests are expected to follow the temple schedule. Room privacy is minimal. A good experience but remember you're staying in a temple not a hotel!

I would have expected other guests to be more respectful as I had Some teenagers fooling around inside the temple until late and singing but other than that I would have only wished to understand Japanese better and to have the opportunity to stay more inside the temple. This is not just a hostel or home stay, but a learning cultural experience in temple.

Not worth it!”
The place is beautiful and the location as well. Gardens are worth checking as well as the morning ceremony at 6h30. However the staff is really unfriendly and the room is freezing cold in the winter - be prepared for very little comfort. Strict rules about time for everything including using the showers (only allowed from 17-21h). I would repeat the experience of staying in a Shukubo but would definitely try a different one.

Rigid rules. Bags can be stored till 12pm but guests have to leave premises after check out. Our 2 friends were not even allowed to sit at entrance lobby or loiter in the garden and were told to leave, but the bags can be stored till 12pm!

The temple is amazing even though we couldn't have the full experience. Apparently our reservation didn't include dinner and they couldn't include it after, so we didn't have that experience. The staff was ok, not the most friendly staff, but you cannot have it all I guess.

Per chi vuole venire a visitare l’esoterico koyasan, questo tempio ha un’ottima posizione centrale. Dispone di alcune camere col bagno (water e lavandino) che consiglio vivamente. Bella parte docce ha anche un piccolo onsen. Nelle stanze c’è un odore di muffa terribile che invade il naso e a noi ha reso difficile addormentarsi. La stanza ovviamente è priva di qualsiasi arredo, eccetto che due futon a terra e un tavolo basso per il the. I cuscini sono riempiti di riso. Questo rende difficile un buon sonno. C’è il refettorio dove si mangia per terra e i piatti ovviamente sono tipici del posto. Molti hanno dei sapori inconmedtibili. Ma questo è il koyasan. E questo significa vivere un’esperienza esoterica con i monaci. Alle 17,30 si cena, alle 6,30 c’è la preghiera, alle 9,00 il check-out. Credo che anche tutti gli altri templi siano gestiti nella stessa maniera. Quindi almeno questo ha una posizione strategica. Namaste’ a tutti!

We were in the new building of the temple, under the ground level so we needed the a/r all night long, maybe even cause of 24 hours of rain.The monks were smoking in the common area on the hallway (no so buddist people in my opinion),the bathroom was really old. The temple is good to visit but not to stay especially after the experience in Shojoin (more expensive for a good reason).The room had good size and ensuite anyway.

黒河道で参拝。 最初は、スタッフの連絡がうまくいってないのか案内まで20分ほど待たされました。 トイレ付き８畳間を2人で利用。 エアコンありましたが、Wi-Fiの案内がありませんでした。チェックアウト時に聞くとWi-Fiありました。そのあたりの案内がよくありません。 大浴場は綺麗で気持ち良いです。 精進料理は美味しいですが、白飯が少なすぎで、2人で１膳ずつでした。少し坂道を下ったところにコンビニがあるので、歩いてくるかたは、そちらをどうぞ。

Near bus stop, Not too expensive”
ใกล้ป้ายรถเมล์ แต่เป็นทางเดินขึ้นชัน ค่อนข้างเหนื่อย มีน้ำให้อาบแค่ช่วงเย็นถึงดึก แต่ถ้าเทียบราคากับวัดอื่นแล้วถือว่าคุ้มราคา ห้องพักกว้างดี มีน้ำอุ่น มีกาน้ำร้อนแต่ไม่มีที่ต้ม มีทีวี มีเครื่องปรับอากาศ ห้องอาบน้ำรวมค่อนข้างเล็ก กลางดึกเงียบสงบดี หลับสบาย พิธีสวดมนต์ตอนเช้าดูศักดิ์สิทธิ์ดี แต่ไม่เข้าใจเหมือนกันว่าทำอะไร บริเวณใกล้เคียงมีซุปเปอร์มาร์เก็ต กับร้านอาหารเยอะพอสมควร บรรยากาศดี ถ้ามีโอกาสก็จะกลับไปอีก
