Nice hotel in great location!”
We really liked our time at Washington Plaza - the place of location was absolutley perfect, directly in the center. The room was spacy, nicely lit and cozy, though the matress may have been a little bit hard. We didn't have any problems, but basic Japanese has been proven to be convenient, as the staff doesn't hardly speak any English. We recommend this hotel!

Convenient for everything”
We had Standard twin room which was huge by japan standards, the hotel is older than others we have stayed in and that showed a bit in the plumbing and lack of power sockets near the beds. there was a separate wash basin room apart from the toilet but nowhere to hang a towel. Best is the location, great for shopping and eating. we were there for the Kumamoto Castle festival. A must do with great street party and illuminations of the castle at night

Great location, not great service”
The hotel was only .8 kilometers from Kumamoto station and only one block from the large shopping arcade. There were two convenience stores nearby. The hotel had a classy look on the inside. It had most of the features you would expect, but it did lack ice and vending machines. My view overlooked a parking lot. The clerk who handled my check-in came off as a bit smarmy but he got the job done. For the location and price, however, it''s hard to beat.

Good standard room, location, friendly staff”
This hotel is located in the centre of town and near the traditional shopping district. The incredible Kumamoto castle is only a short 15 minutes walk away. The hotel room itself was a typical small Japanese hotel rooms with its matching bathroom. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, and the place very clean. I think the 4 star rating for this hotel might only apply to the foyer as the room itself was really similar to a 3 star hotel room. There was nothing especially notable about the room, however the hotel was quiet and I enjoyed a good night's sleep.

Good location, bad sound proofing”
The hotel is at a corner of shopping district and walking distant to Kumamoto Castle. With its location, the room price is fair. Like many Japanese hotels he room is a bit small. The wall is not sound-proofing. We can listen to the music played next door.

Good hotel, beats capsule anyway”
Abysmal Wi-Fi. other reviewers noted this but the wifi wasn't working for a good long time. Don't they realise some people, many, don't travel in sardine packed on-rails tour groups. We need WiFi to help us plan these days. I like to relax in a hotel with gear, maps, tourist ditties and, most necessary, wifi to research the next leg, see what's to do, local restaurants and shops and plan trains etc,. I don't orientate via stars I use google maps! thankful the staff were super. Shout out to the cute Canadian accented girl who helped get the wifi on. the breakfast is cheap but excellent, much better than other hotels in Japan who charge 50% more. it's also very close to shopping. view is rubbish, I opened the curtain only to see some buildings and some kids otaku room with a gigantic pirate flag on the wall...

Convenient location and nice staff”
The hotel is located near the shopping street. There are a few 24-hour restaurants and most of the shops close at around 11pm. Great place for shopping. Close to the Kumamoto Castle. It only takes you about 10 minutes to walk there from hotel. Ordinary Japanese hotel room, a bit old and not really big. You'll block you way when you open your suitcase. The staff can't really understand English, need the assistance of a Japanese-English translation software to communicate. By the way, the staff are willing to help and friendly.

stressful parking time but excellent customer servie”
Its multilevel carpark facility cannot accommodate more than 1.5m height car. therefore, i cannot park into it and very stressful especially need to drive to nearby private carpark in a middle of massive traffic jam. Lucky, the staff is very helpful tht by helping to block the traffic for me to reverse my car and drive to the public multi level carpark. He also teach me how to wait at the parking machine at the entrance and quickly snatch the ticket to enter immediately when a car was coming out from the public multi level carpark or otherwise someone will snatch the ticket and enter first. well, i just learn this parking culture in Kumamoto.

Extremely convenient to shopping and dining”
This hotel is quite old. However, the carpet and wall paper in the room were redone not too long ago, so I felt not too bad. All the receptionists do not speak English, except one trainee "Ryu" from Mainland China is able to speak English and Mandarin. Without her help, we would not have been able to check in and get our car parked in this hotel's parking lot. Thanks God that she was there during our check-in. Anyhow, I must say this hotel was the only availability in the whole Kumamoto city area under USD250 per night that I could find for that long weekend in Japan. So, I had another choice, I would have stay in another newer hotel at similar price range. One thing I need to say is that the noodle restaurant on the ground floor next to this hotel is an excellent one. It opens only at night time till 02:00 on weekdays and noon till 02:00 on weekends. A great place for supper.

Good hotel but something need improvement.”
The hotel is located in a nice location at the center of walking street in Kumamoto but they should improve the check out time which is too early especially for the foreigners, also the parking charge is not fair,we paid for a day parking,we arrived at 19.00 but we have to move our car out at 10.00 next day but they charge you one day parking especially we are the hotel's guests! The room condition is O.K.The breakfast is clean with not many varieties.Overall the location is good.We would recommend the restaurant named Katsuretsu Tei Kumamoto ,really special Tonkatsu restaurant,no.1 in Kumamoto, just few minutes walk from the hotel.

great location but a little bit of small room”
hotel staff are pretty nice & kind but they can't speak english at all. rooms are small but it's pretty common anywhere in japan. the hotel is easy to find and there are many restaurants and bars around the hotel. and a convenience store is just in front of the hotel, less than 10 meters. the hotel is a quite nice place to stay.

good location, inexpensive”
it was fine. good location and value. while some may comment that the rooms are small this is pretty standard for the price and area. the rooms are starting to get a little dated though. Like other hotels in the area WiFi is only available in the lobby and even then it is not good. for $50 or less a night it is a good deal.

Speedy, efficient and friendly service”
my visit involved visiting mt. aso. the trip itself was abortive, for the summit, when i got there, was bathed in fog and the incessant rain and wind whipped everyone there. one could hardly see beyond 15 feet from where i stood. so i had to make a u-turn. the great thing is that when i got off the bus, it was only 8 minutes of walk to the hotel. this is not the first time i use this hotel. i like its clean atmosphere, great breakfast and cordial staff members.
